Here’s the set-up:

One of the greatest contributions you can make to society, no matter where you live, is to be healthy – both physically and mentally. It is one of the best ways to take pride in yourself. Learning how to have a six-pack can build confidence in all areas of life.

If you live in a bustling city or in the leafy suburbs, the one thing that everyone has in common is publicly available FREE fitness equipment. I’m not talking about dedicated weight machines, but instead an assortment of fences, staircases, ledges, park benches for workouts that involve nothing but your own body weight.

Why? It’s all about getting back to basics, and using the tools that the great outdoors provides us, to improve and enhance our lives and to become urban warriors of fitness! You owe it to yourself to expand your workout regimen, and utilize your urban environment to achieve optimum health and vitality.

It’s all about balance with nature, and using your body’s weight to get in shape. Using your own bodyweight can be challenging, but will help you realize your own potential. Remember those school days of playing football, basketball, baseball or field hockey? The workouts for training consisted of nothing but jumping jacks, push-ups, leg lifts and sit-ups. It worked – right?

No matter where you live, how old you are or what shape you are in, outdoor exercises using your own body weight is the answer. You can workout anytime and anywhere, because your workout equipment is always available and with you. It is resistance training at its best. Your body has its own built-in, natural limits to help you reach your fitness goals.

One of the most important goals to achieve is muscle. Muscle keeps you strong, young, burns calories and protects your joints. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn – even just sitting here reading this book. Muscle creates a furnace in your body that speeds up your metabolism.

Using your body is not the only way to add or change resistance. Adjusting the angles in your exercises can shock your system and transform your body even more quickly. Staying fit is all about lifestyle and once it becomes a part of your life, it becomes effortless and produces incredible changes in your physique.

Eating right, staying hydrated, sleeping well and getting fit, using your own body for workouts outdoors or in. It doesn’t matter!

Here’s the set-up:

To a corrupt chief of police intent on maintaining his power at all costs, part-time PI Declan “Mac” MacManus is a problem that must finally be addressed. Cursed with an unwavering sense of right and wrong, and a fierce loyalty to his few friends, Mac has become known as someone the working class of Southampton can turn to in times of desperate need. On a rain-swept night in October, Mac witnesses to a brutal homicide, but he has learned that nothing on the East End is ever what it seems. Determined to hunt down an elusive hired killer before he can strike again, Mac is reunited with what is left of a prominent family he once knew well. But something more—something darker than Mac could have possibly foreseen—is at play here, and as a long-hidden secret threatens to emerge, Mac once again becomes the only hope for justice in a town that all too clearly belongs to the rich and powerful.

The Poisoned Rose was a stunning and wondrous debut, and The Bone Orchard only confirmed Daniel Judson’s artistry and unique style, but those two dark gems do not prepare the reader for the huge leap forward that is The Gin Palace. The final outing of Declan “Mac” MacManus, one of our most compelling PIs, shows an author at the very height of his dizzying power. Fresh, vibrant, startling, and beautifully rendered, Judson’s The Gin Palace Trilogy breathes a whole new energy into the genre. — Ken Bruen, Author of Headstone

Here’s the set-up:

Resilience is that trait that empowers us to not merely manage life’s inevitable challenges and detours, but to bounce back stronger than ever. It’s about having the willingness to pursue stretch goals, the courage to get up when you’ve been knocked down, and the tenacity of spirit to embrace all that makes life worth living.

To regard adversity as an opportunity for personal growth may seem idealistic; especially in the midst of typically overloaded schedules and the noise and stress of everyday living … but the hard truth is that from time to time we are going to stumble; encounter unexpected detours, and fail. No matter how much we try to outrun or sidestep adversity, it’s going to happen. The question then becomes not how to avoid obstacles, but how to use them to our advantage.

The good news is that research has proven that resilience is not a genetic gift for the lucky few. It is a set of skills that can be practiced and mastered over time. Stepping Stones to Greater Resilience is a self directed learning guide to help you strengthen the characteristics that enable you to avoid getting sidetracked by life’s inevitable challenges and thrive as a result of the experience.

Here’s the set-up:

When 16-year-old Oakland California teenager, Calvin Pierce, makes a bad decision and winds up getting arrested, his mother is quick to take action. Determined not to lose a second son to the drug and gang violence of the inner city, she sends Calvin to spend the summer working for his great uncle in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

There in the predominately-white region of agriculture and recreational boating, Calvin’s a fish out of water with a chip on his shoulder. Complicating matters, a smart, beautiful (and feisty) local farmgirl, Mei Li Cheng, isn’t buying his city-boy ‘tude and relishes any opportunity to challenge him. If their instant combativeness is a thin veneer for attraction, the outcome might have to wait. When severed body parts are discovered floating in a slough, Calvin’s summer of proving himself takes on new meaning.

Something deadly is lurking in the deep murky waterways of the Delta. Now the daunting task of containing the living incarnation of a mythical creature falls to Calvin and his ragtag posse of oddball characters.

In this sequel to Maids of Misfortune, it is the fall of 1879 and Annie Fuller, a young San Francisco widow, has a problem. Despite her growing financial success as the clairvoyant Madam Sibyl, Annie doesn’t believe in the astrology and palmistry her clients think are the basis for her advice.

Kathleen Hennessey, Annie Fuller’s young Irish maid, has a plan. When her mistress is asked to expose a fraudulent trance medium, Arabella Frampton, Kathleen is determined to assist in the investigation, just like the Pinkerton detectives she has read about in the dime novels.

Nate Dawson, up-and-coming San Francisco lawyer, has a dilemma. He wants to marry the unconventional Annie Fuller, but he doesn’t feel he can reveal his true feelings until he has a way to make enough money to support her.

In Uneasy Spirits, this cozy, romantic novel of suspense, Annie delves into the intriguing world of 19th century spiritualism, encountering true believers and naïve dupes, clever frauds and unexplained supernatural phenomena.

She will soon find there are as many secrets as there are spirits swirling around the Frampton séance table. Some of those secrets will threaten the foundation of her career as Madam Sibyl and the future of her relationship with Nate Dawson, and, in time, they will threaten her very life itself.

Annie Fuller also has a secret. She supplements her income by giving domestic and business advice as Madam Sibyl, one of San Francisco’s most exclusive clairvoyants, and one of Madam Sibyl’s clients, Matthew Voss, has died. The police believe his death was suicide brought upon by bankruptcy, but Annie believes Voss has been murdered and that his assets have been stolen.

Here’s the set-up:

Do you love to read big adventure thrillers packed with tales of gold snatched away from Nazis, chase scenes in steaming jungles, even steamier sex scenes, treacherous waterfalls, coded messages buried in dusty journals, and a secret society conspiring to take over the world?

Christine Kling’s new Caribbean thriller, CIRCLE OF BONES, is just such a real page-turner based on an actual true mystery of World War II. The French submarine Surcouf, once the largest submarine in the world, departed Bermuda in 1942 and vanished without a trace. In this pulse-pounding thriller, Kling imagines what might have happened in this unsolved mystery.

Solo sailor Maggie Riley is cruising aboard her forty-foot sailboat when she rescues a sexy – but crazy conspiracy-spouting treasure hunter/archeologist who is swimming totally nude off the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. She soon learns he is searching for the wreck of a mysterious submarine. Cole Thatcher claims the sub holds millions in gold coins as well as secret documents from a powerful inner circle of Skull and Bones whose goal is to keep America at war for their own profits. Cole hopes for Riley’s help in decoding his father’s journals that are the key to the location of the wreck.

At last, Riley joins the search for Surcouf when she discovers the demons in her own past intersect the inner Circle of Bones, and this conspiracy nut might not be so crazy after all.

Chihuahua Karma

Here’s the set-up:

Gregor’s nightmare was a cockroach. Cherry Paget’s is a Chihuahua.

Cherry was young, beautiful and rich—just golden enough to imagine that she had the world by the balls. Death was the furthest thing from her mind. But even a morbid obsession with the afterlife could not have prepared her for what happened.

Chihuahua Karma chronicles the horrendous consequences of Cherry’s bad choices. She trades love for a Black American Express card. She dumps veterinarian, Richard Preston, to marry gangster, Larry Finkelstein. And, when a smudge of magenta lipstick confirms that Larry is cheating she washes down a fist-full of Vicoden with a bottle of wine for breakfast. That mistake is the beginning of her problems.

In an inebriated attempt at tanning, Cherry plunges from the terrace of her penthouse to the street below. She escapes extinction only to encounter a more complicated fate. Cherry regains consciousness trapped inside the body of a very tiny dog.

Cherry’s diminutive prison is a mini Chi named Sugar. The Lucky Dream Dry Cleaners is her dismal new home. With the unwitting assistance of her former housekeeper, Cherry escapes the dirty clothes and cotton dust. Once again ensconced in Larry’s luxurious penthouse, she becomes his girlfriend’s prized purse-buddy.

In her diminished state, Cherry finds new perspective. She yearns for Richard. And she forms an unlikely alliance with Don Paco Fernandez, a temperamental ghost with a taste for tequila and pretty ladies. Through Don Paco, Cherry discovers that only she can save an orphaned child from her impending adoption by a sinister couple. The cast of off-beat characters collides, and Cherry meets her destiny at a casino night Christmas party.

Chihuahua Karma could easily share a shelf with humorous fiction like the Devil Wears Prada and the Nanny Diaries. Sugars fans include women who love fashion, passion and small dogs and any reader who enjoys unraveling a quirky plot to its surprising conclusion.

Debby Rice is a writer from Chicago. She has spent time in Mexico City, San Miguel Allende, New Orleans and San Francisco, and her experiences in those cities color her work. Rice blurs the distinctions between fantasy and reality and immerses her readers in a vividly imagined new world.

Dangerous Harbor is a seriously dangerous romantic suspense novel that will keep you up well past your bedtime! The heroine, Katy, is a beautiful and appealing San Francisco cop, whose solo sailing vacation down to Ensenada turns into a busman’s holiday, complete with a dead body, ex-boyfriend, sleazy business tycoon, drug Cartels, and a seriously sexy Mexican lawman. –M. Louisa Locke, author of Maids of Misfortune & Uneasy Spirits

“Take a San Francisco police officer who is on leave for shooting a man who threatened her sister, send her on a sailing trip into Mexican waters where she finds the body of a murdered teenage girl, and you’ve got the mix for an intriguing mystery. Add an irresistible Mexican-Italian man who happens to be the lead investigator on the case and the romance begins to sizzle. I loved the vivid descriptions of this coastal Mexican town, and the methodic way in which officer Katy Hunter helps with the investigation. A satisfying ending in which all the threads come together into a neatly plotted book.” – Connie Shelton, author of the best-selling Charlie Parker mysteries and the new Samantha Sweet mysteries

Bleary-eyed and sleep deprived after a long overnighter into Mexico, solo sailor and SFPD police detective, Katrina Hunter, thinks the mermaid twenty yards behind her thirty-two foot Westsail is nothing more than a sailor’s hallucination But everything she knows about floaters convinces her to turn her boat around for another look.
Now, alone and isolated in the Mexican port’s police station for six hours she’s convinced that reporting a floater to authorities was a mistake. Even the arrival of a handsome, if somewhat dour, Mexican/Italian investigator does nothing to dispel her growing anxiety that she’s about to be charged with the murder.
Chief Inspector, Raul Vignaroli, is as surprised by the attractive solo-sailor as he is to find that she’s a respected member of the San Francisco police force, and after some well-placed phone calls he’s sure that he’s found the perfect partner to help him solve a murder, if not the cure for his broken heart.
Released, she’s free to go. But leaving the police station hits a snag when two policemen march in, dragging a listless prisoner between them. But before Katy can dodge them for the exit, the prisoner raises his head and a startling pair of aquamarine eyes meet hers.
He straightens his back, wincing at the angle of his cuffed wrists. “What the… Whisper?”
Suddenly, the sound of the ceiling fan is terribly loud. Blood pounds in her ears, her mouth goes dry, her palms are damp and her feet are nailed to the floor. In a knee jerk reaction, she hisses, “Don’t call me that!”

Don’t have a Kindle? Get yours here.
Here’s the set-up:
Lose weight effortlessly with the 15 power foods your body craves.
Learn the 15 foods you must include in your healthy eating plan. You CAN lose weight and keep it off, but not by dieting…by tuning up your hormonal system for health.
Diets don’t work! The last thing you want to do is set yourself up to put on MORE fat by actually eliminating the systems that will enable you to burn your excess fat for energy. That’s what you do when you starve yourself on a restricted calorie diet, or worse, go on one of the awful diets that has you eating only grapefruit for a week.To burn fat for energy, you must eat the foods that support healthy endocrine functioning, or your body will stubbornly insist on holding on to its fat stores. To be successful at weight loss, you must first tune up your glandular system to function at top efficiency, then you can gently coax the pounds off, by making a few simple and easy changes.
Weight loss is much easier when all your systems are working correctly, including your metabolic and endocrine systems. That’s why you need to be “healthy” before you can achieve “slim.”
It’s not dramatic, it’s not quite as exciting as “Lose 20 pounds in 5 days!”, it might even be called “boring.” But slow continual weight loss, where you can easily and effortlessly, lose 12 lbs. a year, sounds pretty thrilling, wouldn’t you agree?

Sometimes, Life leads us where we need to go…

Six years ago, Victory’s mind and body were brutally shattered by those she trusted. The betrayal has left her with a closed and tortured heart and an innate fear of the men around her. Her father, a cold, compassionless emperor who rules Victory’s life the same way he has ruled Mercy, has an inhuman solution: Chain her to a massive native man from the war-torn planet that kidnapped her to prove to her there’s nothing to fear. Yet when the huge and gentle native shows himself to be something more than anyone expects, will Victory open her heart and allow this handsome and powerful healer to help her flower, or will she turn him over to the Imperium that hunts him?

Bound to an Imperial princess, their bodies lashed together by a cruel decree, Dragomir is tired of helplessly watching Victory’s past overtake her. He has the power to fix her, and if she doesn’t like it, she can kill him after he is finished. He is a healer—he will mend her broken spirit, or die trying. Yet, in healing her, he must reveal his secret to her, and in doing so, Dragomir must also trust her with his life, for those with his special talents are feared and hunted by the Imperium. What Dragomir doesn’t foresee at the outset is his own passion: She’s his soul-mate, their lives entwined throughout the ages, and her mere presence sparks a fire within him that he’s tried for years to ignore. He finds himself fighting his body’s deepest urges every time he looks upon her graceful form, struggling for the control she needs of him, warring with inner desires and an ancient need that could make her abandon him forever…

Here’s the set-up:
Karen is a young widow, still mourning her husband ten months after his death. Financial difficulties force her to work long hours at a job she hates. The one bright spot in her life is her little daughter, Cindi.
One morning, Karen decides to pick herself up and start again. The first step is to go back to college. If she finishes her degree, she can have the career she wants, as a teacher of French. The problem is: she can’t afford to take time off, unless she finds a cheaper place to live. A solution arrives in the form of her old friend, Jim. He’s on a tight budget, too, and he needs someone to share his apartment. Karen foresees difficulties, if she moves in with a man. Jim, though, reassures her. There’s no chemistry, no spark. It should be easy to live together as “just friends.”
Thinking matters over, Karen agrees. After all, Jim is the kind of man she calls a “Mr Nice Guy”—good-natured and funny, but not physically attractive.
Soon she and her daughter have settled in. Life is pleasant, but dull, until the employment agency calls with an ideal assignment: six days at a legal conference in Venice. In that dream-like city, she meets Mark Lebrun, a man she sees as a fairy-tale prince. Handsome and rich, he makes life easy for Karen. Unfortunately, her friend, Manon, dislikes him. And Karen herself begins to notice flaws in his character. But she confronts Mark and he promises to change.
In the meantime, Jim has been dating Manon. She encourages him to lose weight and work out at the gym. Soon women begin to notice him. And Karen is one of them.
As problems worsen with Mark, she wonders: has she been looking for love in the wrong place? And when she decides what she really wants, will it be too late?

Here’s the set-up:

An agoraphobic artist in our world but a grim reaper in another, Carder Quevedo hides at home, immersing himself in the paintings which commemorate the strange deaths he’s witnessed. He ventures into public only when necessary, scrambling to his hospital job to extract corneas from deceased donors or darting to the diner to share a meal with Darren, his only friend. That’s Carder’s existence – and he’s content.

Until…

Haika changes that. As the bored, beautiful owner of an art gallery – who also happens to be married – she stumbles into Carder in a chance encounter and soon becomes obsessed with his art. As they forge a quirky, electric relationship, Carder is reluctantly pulled into Haika’s social world of wealth, status and the peculiar characters that come with it. Carder is pushed further to the edge when his teenage niece visits, rebelling against her ultra-conservative upbringing. All the while, Carder’s hidden history threatens to ruin his developing chance at normalcy, and on the opening night of his art gallery show, his past finally catches up to his present. Will its tentacles entwine them together, or wreak havoc upon them all?

Here’s the set-up:

Still grieving years after the butchery of his pregnant mother and kidnapping of his premature brother, Robert Goldner was just seventeen when he contracted the White Fire Virus. He prayed for the excruciating death most victims experience shortly after acquiring the STD. Instead he was cursed to live on, slowly dying, ridden with billions of parasites, and possessing a bizarre but limited ability to manipulate photons, the basic units of light.

At age twenty, Robert still considers himself damned and confused, not the least because more and more surviving virus-carriers are calling themselves “angels”– God-blessed beings of light–his licentious partner Darryl Ridley being a prime example. But Robert attempts to shove the irritating mystery of it all to the gutters of his mind as he focuses on his mission as a Watcher agent, locating and recovering missing children in the Washington, D.C. area.

When Robert and Darryl receive a hot tip on the location of a virus-infected girl who disappeared shortly after attempting to massacre half her high school, they prepare to chalk up another success. But when they instead find the girl’s best friend from school, beaten nearly to death, they become entwined in a conspiracy involving magick, bizarre creatures, fantastic realms beyond space and time, and even the death of God.

Can two dying angels do anything to prevent the Apocalypse?

An urban fantasy thriller woven with cosmic Lovecraftian weirdness, Broken Angels is the first book in the Eve of Light series.
