Here’s the set-up:

Will Mora and Neil be too late to save a love that began centuries before?

‘‘The MacDonald comes’ warns Mora Campbell when Neil MacKenzie finds the young Scotswoman lying unconscious at the top of his stairs after he discovers his murdered housekeeper slumped at the bottom. Mora’s claim that she’s his fiancé from 1602 and was chased to the future by clan chieftain, Red MacDonald, through ‘the door to nowhere’ seems utter nonsense. Neil thinks she’s addled from the blow to her head until his life spirals into chaos and the avenging Highlander shows up wanting blood. Mora knows the Neil of the future is truly her beloved Niall who disappeared from the past, but he must also remember. And fast.

Although Niall’s kinsmen believe he’s dead, and Mora is now destined to marry his brother, she’s convinced that if she and Neil return to the past, all will be right. The balance of the present and future are in peril if she marries another, and the Neil of the present will cease to exist. The only problem is how to get back to 1602. An ancient relic, the ultimate geek friend, and a little Celtic magic help pave the way back to the enormous challenge that awaits them. If they’re in time.

Here’s the set-up:

Super soldier Jamie Bloom has been through hell and back. Fighting bad guys was an every other day occurrence in her line of work with the other Phantom Protectors that she calls family. Manipulating emotions and healing powers had been a bonus…until now. When Lydia, the group visionary, predicts that finding the answers to Jamie’s past is the only way to save the group from certain demise, there was only one thing she could do to find the answers they needed. It wasn’t fear of fighting the deranged lunatics that scared her the most, it was finding the answers she’d been searching for all of her life that might be the one thing that finally puts her in a grave.

Bodyguard and family friend, Maxwell Briggs was assigned with one duty and one duty only; which was to guard Lydia Bennett, the Phantoms visionary, from attack. When Lydia has a vision that jeopardizes not only her safety but everyone’s in the unit, there’s only one thing to do…stop the threat before it stops them. Working among the gifted group without powers of his own is a challenge most days. But when they needed his natural gift to help Jamie complete her mission, he’ll stop at nothing to see that she finds what she so desperately desires.

Power hungry, Benjamin Floyd, is known for preying on the weak and taking what he wants. When he sets his sights on Jamie’s gifts, he may just get more than he bargained for from the warrior princess.

The war is just beginning!

Here’s the set-up:
The private eye genre has come a long way, baby, with new subgenres — from teenage PIs to vampire gumshoes to geriatric sleuths — attracting new readers every year. Unfortunately, most writers are not aware of the state-of-the-art developments that shape today’s professional private investigator, which sometimes leave writers floundering with impossible and antiquated devices, characters and methods in stories. Which is why we wrote How to Write a Dick: A Guide for Writing Fictional Sleuths from a Couple of Real-Life Sleuths, whose material we culled from our combined 14 years as private investigators, and also from our teaching online classes and conducting workshops at writers’ conferences about writing private investigators. How to Write a Dick isn’t about how to write a novel, but what you need to know to write an authentic, compelling 21st-century sleuth character or story.

Reviews

“I was surprised how much I learned and how much fun this book is. It’s a ‘what’s going on in the field’ that’s like a pre-write fact checker…It can stand alone as an insider’s guide to the world – the real world – of the private detective.” ~David Y.B. Kaufmann

“If [this book] had been around when I was fiction editor for THE THRILLING DETECTIVE WEB SITE, my job would have been much easier.” ~Gerald So, editor, writer, book reviewer, moderator DetecToday

“Forget Google and Bing. When you need to research PI work, go to the experts, Colleen Collins and Shaun Kaufman: they live it, they teach it, they write it. How to Write a Dick is the best work of its kind I’ve ever come across because it covers the whole spectrum in an entertaining style that will appeal to layman and lawmen alike. This will be the industry standard for years to come.” —Reed Farrel Coleman, three-time Shamus Award winner for Best PI Novel of the Year and author of Hurt Machine

“If you want authenticity in creating a fictional private investigator for your stories, then this is a must-have reference book. Its authors, Colleen and Shaun, are living breathing PIs with years of actual experience in the PI game.” —R.T. Lawton, 25 years on the street as a federal special agent and author of 4 series in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine

“Pardu S. Ponnapalli, an IT specialist with a doctorate in physics, has devised ingenious and potentially world-changing ways to improve things. Many of Ponnapalli’s essays are intellectually challenging, short, well written and entertaining.” – Patty Sutherland, Foreword Clarion Review June 2011

“Ponnapalli’s crazy (impulsive, but fun and thought provoking) ideas cover some timely and popular topics; U.S debt and defecit, overweight, stock market, space exploration, alternative energies, cat litter and more. The book is easy to read.” – Recommended & Reviewed in The Mindquest Review of Books, by Lightword Publishing, August 2011

“The essays were well-written and mostly thought through. Based on his personal experience, they were enlightening and at times, laughable. More importantly, they make the reader take the time to think about our future, ponder on the problems, and look for the solutions we need.” – Teri Davis, BestSellersWorld.com, July, 2011

“Some of my fondest memories of university were those informal gab sessions in the common room. Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas reminds me of those times.”Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas presents some good ideas and some not so good ideas. Take them as you will. Laugh at them or be inspired by them.” – Tami Brady, TCM Reviews, July 22, 2011

“The act of brainstorming can result in new ideas and surprising results. The author ends each chapter with the words, “Discuss and enjoy!” That is exactly what the reader of this “bunch of crazy ideas” will do.” – Libby Grandy, The US Review of Books

Here’s the set-up:

The Las Vegas Mayoral race is heating up, and the incumbent doesn’t have a prayer. Wealthy real estate speculator Nick Campenelli, who wants to legalize prostitution in Clark County, and former pastor Louis St. Louis, running on a ‘clean-up-Vegas-by-getting-rid-of-the-whores’ platform, are the front runners.

They’re also front runners on the suspect list for a string of murders. Kennedy O’Brien, four-year detective with cop blood running in her veins, and her partner Wilder “Wild Thing” James, a veteran, are determined to find the man who’s murdering prostitutes who work the wrong side of the street, and they don’t care how important or politically active he is.

The killer is a man with a mission. He stalks the women before he kills them, leaving a “BEFORE” photo on their bodies, and sending an “AFTER” shot to the local news hound. Ed Hershey, an aging newscaster with just the right amount of grey in his hair, is determined to turn this story into a network gig, and his interference, along with the LVTVS legal team, are making Kennedy and Wilder look bad. Campenelli’s good looks and charm, and St. Louis’ vitriolic hatred of prostitutes are muddying the waters too, and now the killer seems to have taken a liking to Kennedy.

So the big question remains. Can she get him before he gets her?

A dying man craves the time he has lost. Written as a long rhyming poem, Say Not “What If” recounts his journey and the consequences of the choices he makes in a desperate desire to stay alive. Exceptionally easy to read and understand, many readers have praised the power and thought provoking nature of this unique story. What would you do for more time?
“This was a lyrical masterpiece! Very deep with an important life lesson woven in. Excellent from start to finish, and highly recommended by me.”
“This literary work is something incredibly special. I highly recommend this book, and hope that its life lessons will stay with us for the rest of our journey.”
“The paradox of a man’s dying despair with the lyrical rhyming was intoxicating. Easy to read, and emotionally provocative, Mr. Friedman has written a truly unique short story.”
“This poetic short story is so gripping and compelling that you won’t stop reading. And more than reading, I was almost singing along with the story, it was so beautifully written.”

“Say Not “What If”
is a beautifully written piece of literature with a dark heart at its core. The stark contrast between the lovely poetry and all the things that made this ugly was severe but it was also what made the story . . . beautiful in an uncanny way.”
“I found myself truly submerged in the story. I read it in one afternoon and it left me with lots to think about, which, really, is what books are all about.”

“The perfect blend of ancient history, folk lore and a bit of science fiction. The story is a bit slow while creating the characters but once they are established they are woven together into an intricate story that is hard to put down.” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars
