THE TALES OF THE SCATTERED EARTH:Once, long ago, there was one Earth. It was said that many deities gazed down upon it protectively, and there was balance between them all. Then something went wrong. The balance shifted—toward darkness. Earth was shattered, her people destroyed, her remains scattered far and wide. But the gods survived the cataclysm. They scattered as well, each pursuing a fragment of their former domain. And, when they overtook those shards, the gods drew upon what power remained to them to restore their worshippers to life.
These new followers rose from dust and imperfect memory, for the gods too had been injured. Each claimed a new home, and a new life, and each thought itself—at least at first—to be the only Earth. All memory of their former world was lost, except vague memories of the gods who gave them new life. Then, one day, a single great event drew all their eyes to the stars—and beyond. And each of them felt a yearning. Something in them desired to be whole again, or at least to understand. These are their stories.These are The Tales of the Scattered Earth.

The second in the Scattered Earth Tales - a collaboration with Aaron Rosenberg and Steven Savile - The Second Veil begins with our hero Euphrankes being banished from the city of Urv for daring to show initiative that runs counter to the established ways, in a scene reminiscent of the Rush epic 2112.
What's needed is a short,sharp shock - which arrives in the form of space debris that crashes through the protective bubble of the First Veil and threatens the whole existence of not only Urv, but the whole planet too...
Written with energy and flowing descriptions, the story combines a sound explanation of Urv's technology and history, and a unique twist on travel via Veil protected roads and Airships. Countless discoveries and events draw the reader inexorably to the point of departure as the Author weaves the threads of the story into a glittering climax.
The Scattered Earth Tales promise to be a rich universe of action and storytelling, and The Second Veil is well worth reading as you begin it's exploration. Any fans of Stargate and Babylon 5 work are well advised to read this too.

David Niall Wilson has been writing and publishing horror, dark fantasy, and science fiction since the mid-eighties. An ordained minister, once President of the Horror Writer’s Association and multiple recipient of the Bram Stoker Award. He has published many novels and over 150 short stories. Here’s the set-up:
Brandt believes his life has hit rock bottom. When he leaves the bar with a bottle of Jose Cuervo in one hand and his guitar case in the other, he finds he’s locked out of his apartment. He hears a harmonica , and the sound draws him into an alley, where he meets Wally, who
plays magically compelling blues. Brandt begs the old man to teach him and is gifted – or cursed – with the Blues. He feels the pain building up around him and inside him. Not his own pain, but the pain of others, the pain of those who have passed away, the pain of those who died with no one to hear their stories. Wally explains it. The music will release the pain, and it is the only thing that will release the pain. Brandt must play, or the pain will build up inside until he destroys him.

About the Author
David Niall Wilson was born in a very small town in Illinois, joined the Navy (where he started writing novels) and now lives “in the historic William R. White house in a tiny place called Hertford, NC.” He describes his achievements as a writer:
“I’ve sold twelve novels to date (though hopefully by the time many of you read this that will be a larger number. I’ve published over 150 short stories, been in 32 or so anthologies, countless magazines, year’s best collections, won awards — notably The Bram Stoker Award for poetry, which I share with co-authors Mark McLaughlin and Rain Graves. I’ve been President of the Horror Writer’s Association, and I’m an active member of both SFWA and the newer International Thriller Writer’s Association.”
