Ves Asirin, an orphaned and introverted boy with a complicated memory loss disorder, wins a trip to the TOWER OF PARLEN MIN, the home of the wealthiest inventor of the time, Jacobius Trent.

There, with 19 other children, he must compete in the Sword Challenge–a series of intricate puzzles and daring tasks–for a prize of $12 million.

As dazzling, glorious and liberating as the Tower seems to be for him, Ves finds that it keeps a dark and secret history that he has been unknowingly connected to for over 150 years, a secret that will define his future and destiny … if he can escape the Shadow, a powerful and seemingly unstoppable, supernatural serial killer.

From the reviewers:

Interesting premise, unique voice . . . add in murder, money, and swords and you have a fun, strange world and adventure. Oddly but well written, I recommend the Tower of Parlen Min and eagerly await the next in the series.   –  A.  Massie (Stormy)

Stepping into the fantasy world that Matt Xell created was a wonderful experience. The Tower of Parlen Min is extremely different from the books I typically read, but I sincerely enjoyed it and look forward to reading more about the adventures of Ves in the future. I believe that this book would be and excellent story for boys 12-14 year old; but girls and young adults may find the world of Parlen Min very interesting.  – Klaragon

From the reviewers:

This novel is a rollercoaster ride of suspense and mystery, complete with nonstop action and a conclusion that will leave you reeling. Needless to say, this is a great novel for all ages! It has a very interesting premise and the prologue had me hooked within moments. Although the writing style of the prologue is a little different, reading more as an informative narrative than an actual story, it gives the reader a much-needed rundown of Ves Asirin and his life leading up to the opening of the novel. The writing style then switches to a third person narrative, from the first chapter through the remainder of the novel, and is very well written.   – A Book Vacation

This book was packed full of action, and while reading, it constantly keeps you on your toes. Right when you think that the action has stopped, something happens again and the action starts all over again. It’s definitely the type of story to keep you entertained. 🙂   Amber (burning impossibly bright)

If you’re looking for something really fun and highly imaginative then I definitely suggest reading Tower of Parlen Min. There is so much to it that I can’t help but feel I’d like to reread it again. I also look forward to reading more of Ves’ adventures in future books.  –  PandemoniumPizza

From the reviewers:

I’ve always been a big fan of games, challenges, puzzles etc. in books and this story has a bit of everything, as well as a great storyline to tie it all together. A lot of what Matt Xell decided to put his characters through was highly original and deeply engaging. There tends to be a lot of repeated content in books like these and so Xell’s take added some much needed originality to the genre.   –  Sift Book Reviews

Great price for the content, fantastic adventure.  Ves, being an orphan and winning a once in a lifetime chance of going to the tower is still very cynical especially when it comes to meeting all of the other people in the challenge. But with his inability to remember a lot of things and being in this particular situation, it’s understandable. I have seen characters like him before, but never as the lead. It made for a very insightful view into a real guy’s perspective.  –  Crista “CubicleBlindness”

In this incredible story of young adult, speculative fiction the talented author, Matt Xell, does an amazing job of developing dynamic and unique characters and submersing them into a bizarrely beautiful and terrifying world.   I recommend this book to Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson & The Red Pyramid series) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games series) fans. If you love these authors will ‘eat up’ Matt Xell’s writing. I know I did.   –  Amy M. Jones
