Megan’s Way was inspired by a true – and very personal – event that took place many years ago. My mother had undergone surgery for what I was told, at the time, was a benign condition. Years later, she revealed to me that there had been an oncologist in the operating room – the doctors had thought she had cancer.

She also confessed that had they found cancer, she would not have sought treatment. Upon hearing this, I instantly reverted into a little girl again, What? How could you leave me?! The emotional impact of that event, and what that loss would have meant to both of us, festered for years – until Megan’s Way was born.

From the reviewers:

“When you read this book, you will be crying. ”  –  C. Wong  |  40 reviewers made a similar statement

“Thank you Melissa Foster for writing such a captivating and lovely book!! ”  –  Marilou George “Confessions Of A Reader”  |  59 reviewers made a similar statement

“[Foster] drew me into this amazing tale easily, with masterful yet not overly complex language that flows beautifully into a story one will remember always…Though clearly creatures of fiction, the characters in Megan’s Way are wonderfully three-dimensional, brought vividly to life by Foster’s careful details, from their unique back stories to the idiosyncrasies that make each person believable and real.  To put it succinctly, Foster knows her stuff. Whether conveying Megan’s soulful struggle over continuing her treatment, or delving into the fears of a teenager forced to deal with situations beyond her tender years, Foster does so skillfully and poignantly.”   –Barnestable Patriot.

“Megan’s Way…beautiful and tender portrayals…very enjoyable read on the order of a Jodi Picoult novel.”   – The Bookish Dame, Book Reviewer.

“…a vivid portrayal of each character’s journey through life; of the joys and travails of putting one’s heart on the line and making oneself vulnerable through the act of giving the heart.”   – Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards

“Megan’s Way by Melissa Foster is an emotionally moving book…Melissa does a great job in bringing you into the life of her characters and keeps the story rolling smoothly…” –Jeanette Stingley, Women’s Literary Editor, Bella Online

“A wonderful, warm, and thought-provoking story with a touch of the paranormal. This is a deep and moving book that speaks to men as well as women, and I urge you all to put it on your reading list. ” –Thomas Elliott, Book Review Editor, Mensa Bulletin

”Megan’s Way” is a fine and fascinating read that many will find hope in. ” –Midwest Book Review

Tess struggles with the news of Beau’s death and tries to put her life back together. Alone and dealing with a pregnancy that only reminds her of what she has lost, Tess is adrift in a world of failed plans and fallen expectations. When a new client appears offering more than just a new project, Tess must confront the circumstances of her life head on.

Meanwhile, two Iraqi women who are fleeing honor killings find Beau barely alive in the middle of the desert, his body ravaged by the crash. Nine years ago, Molly Tanner witnessed a young girl’s abduction in the busy city of Philadelphia, shifting her occasional clairvoyance into overdrive. Two days later, the girl’s body was found, and Molly’s life fell apart. Consumed by guilt for not acting upon her visions, and on the brink of losing her family, Molly escaped the torturous reminders in the city, fleeing to the safety of the close-knit rural community of Boyds, Maryland.

Molly’s life is back on track, her son has begun college, and she and her husband have finally rekindled their relationship. Their fresh start is shattered when a seven-year-old girl disappears from a local park near Molly’s home. Unable to turn her back on another child and troubled by memories of the past, Molly sets out to find her, jeopardizing the marriage she’d fought so hard to hold together. While unearthing clues and struggling to decipher her visions, Molly discovers another side of Boyds, where the residents–and the land itself–hold potentially lethal secrets, and exposes another side of her husband, one that threatens to tear them apart.

From the author:
I began writing Chasing Amanda in 2006, set it down to write Megan’s Wayin 2008, and revisited it in 2009 with even more subplots in mind. The idea came to me while running solo down White Ground Road, a road which is mentioned in the novel. Much of the landscape and architecture mentioned in the book is true to Boyds, and is just as foreboding in the dark of night as it is portrayed in Chasing Amanda.  Boyds, however, is not a town where any of these events have taken place, nor are the people likened to residents of the small town. I tend to write about my worst fears, and, as you will read, this touched on the one that scares me the most. I hope you enjoy the story.
