A love that refuses to die…

“As I watched him vanish into a soft mist that faded away, I knew that he was no ordinary spirit…I knew that he was a dangerous entity that could be in some corner of another realm planning his revenge, but I also knew that I was hopelessly in love with him.”

But things do change when Becca accidentally makes contact with a one hundred and sixty year old ghost, Alastor Sinclair, that haunts the halls of her new home.

To Becca, Alastor is a seductive spirit that seems to see straight into her soul. To Alastor, Becca is what he has waited a century for–A second chance.

But the closer they get, the more Becca realizes that this isn’t the first time she and Alastor have known each other. Worse still, is she the one responsible for his death so long ago? And if so, did he come back for love or revenge?

21.12.2012: The Apocalypse Decryption

by Fausto Adames Ruiz (Fausto Adams)

Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:
Maybe the Earth has thousands of years left, or only a few months. That´s what are saying the tornadoes, cyclones, earthquakes, volcanoes, planetary magnetic shift, tsunamis and anything else that will eventually lead to a change in the polarity of the Earth’s magnetic grid, and finally a geological transformation of the poles. But the Apocalypse Theory of the End of the Earth in 21.12.2012 faces another serious enigma worthy to decipher, and is that for its theorists many of the evidence is not scientific, but rather confessions of aliens witnesses or as they like to call “friends of the stars”and are encoded in the messages transmitted through the formations captured in the famous” Crop Circles”, who keep a very close relationship with the symbols of “Hunab Ku”. Interestingly, many astronomers confirmed that in December 21, 2012 will happen an accurate alignment between Earth, the Sun and the Galactic Ecuador. If humans depart aside prejudices and belief systems, everybody can see clearly that something extraordinary is happening around the Earth. The Matrix of the planet is changing due to endogenous or exogenous factors. On one hand, man is altering the ecosystem at an alarming rate, and on the other side Earth is influenced by new energies from the Galactic Center. The Earth will continue experiencing severe climate and geological effects such as earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and volcanic activity, with increased frequency and intensity. When the Earth enters the densest portion of the galactic plane and feels its full gravitational effects, the planet could suffer unprecedented waves of “solar flares”, unexpected meteor showers and unfortunately geographical Pole Shift. No living being knows for sure what will happen in the coming months, especially in the specific date of 12.-21-2012, since the future is yet to occur. Try to approach this great mystery of 2012 with an open mind, however, critical, open to possible scenarios, but requiring evidence. This is not the “End of the World” that is being predicted in the media, a guarantee of conviction, of tumultuous change, and a future full of turmoil that is about to happen. Some prophets are using the true and tested formula of fear to make money, and it makes sense that this fear exists, and that events could be very dire, but still has to address this point in history, balanced and observation. Nobody knows what will happen on December 21, 2012. Will be the Doomsday or the Omega Point, or both, or neither? One thing is certain. Now is a time of radical change, and both problems and innovations lead to a novel situation for a planet of 7 billion people. The biosphere is more decimated than ever. The Sun is more active than in recent times, and can cause some major geological changes. Technology has grown dramatically in an exponential increase, and is about to give birth to a singularity. Whatever will happen, the prophets are sure will be a journey that the human race will never forget!

Here's the set-up:
Do you believe in destiny? When sensitive Maya moves with her brother Thomas from Los Angeles to Paris hoping for a better life, she has no idea that everything is about to dramatically change. What starts as an initiation into the age-old Arakad magical tradition takes an unexpected turn when a wave of brutal murders shatters her world. Caught up in an ancient prophecy, she finds herself at the center of a ruthless battle between good and evil in which humanity’s future is at stake. When all hope is lost and she becomes the final target of a sinister clan, will Maya learn to trust herself and her own power? Or will her own fears prevail?
One Reviewer Notes:
Set predominantly in Paris, this novel is about a young woman Maya and her brother Thomas. Part coming-of-age story, part adventure/thriller woven with a good dose of hermetic lore and magic, I found myself wondering what would happen next to these characters -- especially Maya. It is a fast-paced page turner with cliffhangers in every chapter . . . very absorbing. I hope there is more to come!

KND Readers Can’t Get Enough of Our eBook of the Day – Robb Skidmore’s Coming of Age Novel THE PURSUIT OF COOL is “A totally enjoyable flashback ride to the 1980s.” Just $2.99, with 4.8 Stars on 15 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample, (WARNING: Reading This Sample May Bring Back Memories of Floppy disks, 9 1/2 Weeks on VHS and R.E.M. Cassettes!)

Here’s the set-up for Robb Skidmore’s The Pursuit of Cool, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Quarter Finalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award

The Pursuit of Cool is a humorous, intense, and heartbreaking story of a pop culture obsessed, tragically romantic young man, sure to appeal to fans of Nick Hornby, John Hughes movies, and the 1980s…

A novel that uniquely captures the 1980s, The Pursuit of Cool tells the story of Lance Rally and his turbulent college years.

He comes from a super-achieving family and is intent on being a big success. But he is also an inept, hopeless romantic, obsessed with pop culture, and prone to distraction.

Friendships with a punk rocker and a subversive scholar challenge his worldview, and relationships with a beautiful psych major and a feisty goth girl shape and change him.

This coming-of-age journey is a funny and emotional ride through album covers, dance techniques, all-nighter revelations, and corporate internships gone bad. The story comes alive with music and movies which give Lance solace as he questions his beliefs and his heart gets crushed. He tries to capture that illusive quality, that magic of youth, the essence that is “cool.”

Join Lance on his intense and emotional ride!

From the reviewers:

“With plenty of humor and a strong moral on the purpose of youth, The Pursuit of Cool is a strong pick for general fiction collections and those who want an original take on the college dynamic.” –Midwest Book Review

“Skidmore is a very skillful writer, good with the unique insight, and often very humorous. ”  Zan Fraser  |  7 reviewers made a similar statement

“A skilled writer… A smart account of ’80s college kids… the novel believably summons the ’80s, complete with floppy disks, 9 1/2 Weeks on VHS and R.E.M. cassettes.”  –Kirkus Indie Review

“…An excellent job of taking a character and creating his time and place perfectly. A totally enjoyable flashback ride…”  –Dew on the Kudzu

“From The Clash to Joy Division to Bauhaus…provides the perfect setting. It centers the reader in that hopeful era of high expectations and jaded reality. A great debut, and I can’t wait to read more from Robb Skidmore.”  –The Book Fetish

Here’s the set-up:

The Darkening Dream is the chilling new dark fantasy novel by Andy Gavin, creator of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter.

Even as the modern world pushes the supernatural aside in favor of science and steel, the old ways remain. God, demon, monster, and sorcerer alike plot to regain what was theirs.

1913, Salem, Massachusetts – Sarah Engelmann’s life is full of friends, books, and avoiding the pressure to choose a husband, until an ominous vision and the haunting call of an otherworldly trumpet shake her. When she stumbles across a gruesome corpse, she fears that her vision was more of a premonition. And when she sees the murdered boy moving through the crowd at an amusement park, Sarah is thrust into a dark battle she does not understand.
With the help of Alex, a Greek immigrant who knows a startling amount about the undead, Sarah sets out to uncover the truth. Their quest takes them to the factory mills of Salem, on a midnight boat ride to spy on an eerie coastal lair, and back, unexpectedly, to their own homes. What can Alex’s elderly, vampire-hunting grandfather and Sarah’s own rabbi father tell them? And what do Sarah’s continuing visions reveal?
No less than Gabriel’s Trumpet, the tool that will announce the End of Days, is at stake, and the forces that have banded to recover it include a 900 year-old vampire, a trio of disgruntled Egyptian gods, and a demon-loving Puritan minister. At the center of this swirling cast is Sarah, who must fight a millennia-old battle against unspeakable forces, knowing the ultimate prize might be herself.

Reviews

“I love books in this genre, they take me right back to my preteen years when I read all kinds of fantasy books from the Narnia series to the Hobbit. This book delighted me in many ways from it’s unexpected narrator’s voice, to its unexpected solutions to dealing with bullies. I laughed out loud and I cried a bit…Maybe it was my imagination, but weird coincidences started happening, a couple of times when I was reading it. I recommend this book to anyone with a sense of adventure and delight and who loves fantasy and the occult. Not too scary for as young a reader as a 7 or 8 year old.” —Ener-G gia combs-ramirez

“Moa is a unique and enjoyable read. At its heart it is a story of self-discovery, told through an adventure filled with spiritual and mystical experiences. Strong female characters drive the novel and emphasize the importance of family and of coming to accept yourself despite your mistakes. Set against the backdrop of the Hawaiian islands, vivid details stand out in this well written book. I would recommend this book to readers interested in a fantasy with a spiritual/mystical slant. It is appropriate for all ages.” —Alyssa Rose Ivy

“MOA is a very imaginative story that takes place in one of my favorite settings, Hawaii. The main character, Hillary is very easy to relate to. We follow Hillary on an adventure that not only takes place in the outside world, but also inside of Hillary herself. The story also contains interesting facts about Hawaii’s history and culture. One thing that makes this book very unique are the rituals at the beginning of each chapter. Shiu outlines the rituals in short, easy to grasp paragraphs that make these rituals accessible to readers of all ages and backgrounds. I challenge anyone to read this book and not want to try at least of few of these rituals in your own everyday life. I look forward to the next book in the trilogy…an adventure in Egypt!” —Marcy R

Plus, Don’t Miss The Second Book In The Moa Book Series by Tricia Stewart Shiu:
Here’s The Set-Up:
The second book in the Moa Book Series follows Hillary and Moa as they jet to Egypt on the Prince’s private plane to reclaim Moa’s family heirloom, the inimitable statue of Ku. Once on the ground, however, they find that their search is less about retrieving a treasured family possession and more about tracing a healing path in their genetic lineage to its true beginning. Their journey involves magic, sacrifice and discovering their unique healing gifts, which live within all of us. Their story intertwines with that of the real boy, Ku — his questions, his travails and, eventually, his triumph. In their continuing search for the Statue, Hillary and Moa find that the answer to every question they seek is where they least expect it and that healing gifts are not lost but merely forgotten.
