Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Meredith Kendall’s REIKI STORIES: MY HOT HANDS is Our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Meredith Kendall’s Reiki Stories:  My Hot Hands, just $2.99 on Kindle:

New book from Maine author Meredith Kendall discusses the secrets of Reiki and nursing. Kendall’s conversational style is conducive to hip-hopping around the text. Start at any page and get ready to be enthralled.

Author and columnist Mark LaFlamme said this about Reiki Stories: My Hot Hands. “I think maybe only a nurse can take you from hilarity to horror to humility and then back again in the span of two heartbeats. Kendall does it over and over. I read her stuff and find myself smiling, wincing, laughing aloud, then clearing my throat because there seems to be something caught in it.”

Kendall’s writing has a distinct note of seen-it-all, heard-it-all wisdom, but it’s tempered by great humility, gratitude and – it must be said – charm. She weaves masterfully from one tale to the next, from the piquant to the sorrowful, and the further she goes, the more you want, until you’re like a wide-eyed child sitting on the knee of a beloved elder. Kendall’s stories inform and entertain. You will respect what the author can do with her words and with her hands.

“If she’s as good a nurse as she is a writer – and I suspect that’s so – there is undoubtedly a little less suffering in the world,” LaFlamme says.

Kendall’s stories are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and hopeful. She will sometimes shift your equilibrium, and sometimes validate what you’ve been thinking all along. Ready to curl up with a good book? This is it.

Reiki Stories: My Hot Hands. Light, love, and laughter. Full of great energy.

Steve Williams’ GRASS is Our eBook of the Day at just $3.99, with 4.5 Stars on Four Reviews and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Steve Williams’ Grass, just $3.99 on Kindle:

Grass is a novel about grow ops, advertising, and two detectives who love golf.

Pot is America’s largest cash crop – worth more than wheat and corn combined. Otis M. Gaverill has taken marijuana cultivation to the next level. Otis owns Verdant Greenhouses and Florists. He also owns 318 grow houses. Verdant does over $700 million in business annually. The grow ops are even more profitable. The company provides his grow houses with soil, hydroponics, fertilizers, chemicals, hybrid and cloning expertise, and a front to launder the dope money.

There’s just one problem. A mysterious seven-man crew is knocking off his houses with military precision. Outlaws in their own country, the men have come to the US to get cash to finance a coup against the corrupt regime that chased them from their homeland.

The two cops leading the investigation into the grow-op rip-offs are Sal Mitchell and Eddie Sandovan. Mitchell and Sandovan have their own affinity with grass – they are golfers. They petitioned the city to provide their 8th Precinct with a green roof as an “environmental pilot project”. As a result Mitchell and Sandovan have a rooftop driving range, allowing them to hit golf balls into a park across the street.

Mitchell’s girlfriend, Mya Laing, is an advertising executive. As Mitchell tries to coordinate his investigation, Mya’s team is orchestrating an alternate reality game (ARG) for a client. Pioneered by the band Nine Inch Nails, the video game HALO, and the film The Dark Knight, ARGs are at the bleeding edge of the ad business, incorporating online clues, real life scavenger hunts, and creative improvisation from the players.

“Grass” brings together the game, the guerrilla force, the police and the dope dealers in dramatic fashion.

From the reviewers:

Fast-paced romp.  Thanks to the author for the fast paced golf/advertising/drug romp. Very interesting to see the three separate plot lines come together. Coming from the ad agency biz, I can tell you it is spot on for realism. coming from the angle of a golfer, I can only wish my accuracy was THAT good.  –  “KENadiens”

I had a hard time putting this book down. Bullets go pew! pew! and the characters are well fleshed-out and believable. I loved the anti-hero military squad – gritty and realistic.   – “ryan”

This book immediately grabs your interest. The first chapter sets the stage; after the first few pages I was already intrigued and knew it would be a good read. Great to see the author has another book ready. I’ll be watching for the sequel “Slice” to be announced. – “B”

Jake Bronson returns in Book-2 of the acclaimed thriller/adventure series by bestselling author Richard Bard.

But when a sophisticated terrorist cell shows up in his home town, he’s drawn into a conflict that threatens the heart and soul of every mother in America. The bonds of love and loyalty are tested as Jake and his friends are swept into a deadly chase that takes them from the beaches of California, to the depths of the world’s longest underground river, and finally to the remote jungles of the Venezuelan rain forest–where Jake discovers that it will take far more than his enhanced abilities to prevent what is coming.

From the reviewers for Brainrush II:

I was hooked after Brainrush and Brainrush2 was terrific. I found it to be the same action genre as the Clive Cussler novels that I have so much enjoyed in the past. The storyline is very timely.  –  Gregory A. Monik

Richard Bard’s writing is packed full of twists and turns-it is constantly on the move. One wave of tension dissipates, and another one catches you and slams you into the wall.  I read many kinds of books and like many authors but it has been a long time since one has captured me the way Bard has.  –  Glory Antypowich

Thrill Ride of a Read! This book was a visceral experience. It grabbed my attention and ruined a good night’s sleep by keeping me up to finish it. Truly a fun and exhiliarating experience. If you like action, adventure, technology (without overwhelming detail), science and science-fiction, and characters that you care about and want to see succeed, then this book is for you.  –  “KenDoll”

Praise for BRAINRUSH, a Thriller (Book One):

Book-1 of the BRAINRUSH series was touted in the Wall Street Journal as the #1 Bestselling Action/Adventure in their “Readers Guide to Self-Published Big Sellers” (Dec 9, 2011). This sequel, “BRAINRUSH-II, The Enemy of My Enemy”, was released in early December to rave reviews. Within a few weeks it became the #1 Top-Rated Mystery/Thriller AND the #1 Top-Rated Action/Adventure on Amazon USA–where it remains today (Feb 14, 2012)

“A terrifically entertaining thriller with three finely executed set pieces strung together with nice characterization. Especially successful is Bronson, an amiable, low-key tough guy able to rescue his princess, survive brutality, and retain a sense of humor.” – Publisher’s Weekly*

“Brainrush explores the bonds of friendship while pushing the boundaries of science, creating a compelling, action-packed thriller with a climax that’s a knock-out! – CJ Lyons, New York Times Best-Selling Author

“If this startling debut doesn’t have you turning pages at breakneck speed, then you’re not paying attention.Rich characters, crackling dialogue, and a climactic sequence that is stunning, enervating, and innovative all at once. Richard Bard is a voice to be reckoned with.”  – Rebecca Forster, USA Today Best-Selling Author

“An inventive and compelling hybrid of science fiction, adventure, and political thriller. Rather than end the novel with a simple rescue operation, however, this author provides a far more intriguing and unexpected conclusion.” – Publishers Weekly 2010*

“Coming out of something stronger is usually a good thing, but Jake Bronson quickly realizes some things are just as much blessings as they are curses. “Brainrush” follows Jake Bronson as he comes into new cognitive powers, but finds him targeted by both sides of the war on terror, as he embarks on a worldwide journey to save his daughter, and maybe humanity along the way. “Brainrush” is a fine and hard to put down thriller, recommended.” – Midwest Book Review

As a young Air Force pilot, Richard was diagnosed with cancer and learned that he had only a few months to live. Thirty-six years later he’s still going strong.

He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and after leaving the Air Force he ran three successful companies involving advanced security products and hi-tech displays used by US embassies and government facilities worldwide. He was an active member of the California Crime Prevention Officer’s Association and has been published with cover stories in Security magazine and ASIS Security Management magazine.

When asked what he hopes to achieve as a writer, he said, “The dream for me is to be walking through an airport and notice someone with her head buried in the book. Many readers have said they found it impossible to put down. For me, that’s the ultimate compliment.” Bard currently resides with his wonderful wife in Redondo Beach, California, where he remains in excellent health.

Leonard Tramer’s time machine takes him nowhere near the past, but meddling with time destroys his future. When he steps out of the defective machine, he enters a totalitarian state which resembles East Germany more than the free world he left behind.

From the reviewers:

After reading about 75 or 80 pages, I suspected that Ms. Pentermann was not only an admirer of Ayn Rand, but possibly her 21st century replacement. When I finished the book there was no doubt in my mind on either count.  This is a great story, combining action and suspense, revolving around a time machine. It may even be a time machine by itself as it transports us into a possible future that, sadly, may be ahead for America.  – R. Wall

Nine-Tenths is both a time-travel story and a Dystopian future novel. While I’m always in when it comes to time travel, I tend to avoid most Dystopian society books on account of the fact that they depress the hell out of me. But I took a chance on Meira and Nine-Tenths, in the hopes that she could deliver a good story, and I’m glad I did.   –  D. Ray Daniels

This is a terrific book with wonderful characters that draw you in and make you want to know what will happen next. I love to read a book where I can envision characters and the places where they are and Ms. Pentermann delivers!  A must read for anyone that likes a great story!   –  Mary-Nancy Smith

On slow, snowy days in her Colorado home, Meira Pentermann enjoys cozying up on the couch with a novel. Naturally, snow is not a requirement; neither is the couch. In fact, she sees no reason not to indulge in reading three-hundred-and-sixty-five days a year. Apocalyptic science fiction, mysteries, and young adult titles top her Kindle list, but legal thrillers and chik-lit make an appearance now and then.

When not absorbed in writing or reading, Meira enjoys life’s little moments with her family – the love and devotion of her black lab, the quiet wisdom of her artistic twenty-one-year-old, the trials and triumphs of her petite sixth grader, and the unlimited encouragement offered by her Dutch husband.

Meira strives to write stories that deliver the unexpected. She prefers down-to-earth characters that look and behave like regular folks. The prom queen and Adonis take a backseat to reclusive, soul-searching heroines and quirky, introverted gentlemen.

Meira’s first novel, Firefly Beach, released on March 16, 2009 through Lyrical Press, is a paranormal cozy mystery set on the coast of Maine.

Nine-Tenths, her second novel.  is a dystopian science-fiction released in 2011.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Kevin Manus-Pennings’ A SHORE TOO FAR is Our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, with 5.0 Stars on One Review, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Kevin Manus-Pennings’ A Shore Too Far, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Princess Kara Asgrand is not only daughter to the king but also the greatest military mind of her era. Throughout the kingdom of Avandi and, indeed, the entire continent of Damendine, High General Kara is known as an unstoppable genius on the battlefield. No amount of genius, however, could have prepared Kara for the arrival of a wondrous fleet of great ships unlike anything ever seen. When the strange passengers disembark from the ships by the thousands, Kara is confronted with a sprawling tent city on Avandi’s shore. The visitors, the Kullobrini, weave a tale of a lost expedition and ships riddled with disease and beg time to cleanse their vessels.

As the days pass, however, holes appear in the Kullobrini’s story, and with every answer a new question arises. If the Kullobrini are hostile, they will cost Kara’s forces dearly. Regardless, Kara must defend her father’s kingdom, but she cannot ignore that her own life of war has made her judgment suspect.…

Kara must decide what are the limits of one people’s compassion for another? And how far should one people go to protect themselves? If she trusts the Kullobrini wrongly, she could lose her father’s kingdom, but if she chooses war because it is the answer she has come to expect then she could lose her soul.

From the reviewer:

“A Shore Too Far” is a very entertaining series debut which takes place on a secondary world with the usual pseudo-medieval society but with no magic so far. The novel is a first person narration from Kara Asgrand, daughter of the king of Avandi and commander in chief of the army.  Overall, A Shore Too Far (A+) is another very promising indie series debut which I recommend for a fast and very enjoyable read. I also want to note that the novel wraps up its main storyline so it’s a standalone from this point of view, but of course more is promised in the interesting universe created by the author.  Note: This review has been originally published on Fantasy Book Critic and all links and references are to be found there.   Liviu C. Here’s the set-up for Kathryn Shay’s Ties That Bind, just $3.99 on Kindle:

In her research on the legal system, Kathryn Shay followed lawyers, a public defender and a district attorney through their day and into court.

Reese Bishop would like to think he’s gotten over his ex-wife, Judge Kate Renado, and vice versa. But when they’re thrown together to disprove an accusation by a former clients, who they represented in their high powered law firm, everything between them gets murky.

The facts that they’re both involved with wonderful new partners, their daughter Sofie has barely accepted their divorce, and the totally unexpected cover-up in the prison system can’t quell the explosive attraction and deep love that surfaces when they work to prove their innocence.

Readers will be shocked by the turn of events in this novel.

From the reviewers:

“Shay has crafted a novel with an intriguing premise and, best of all, with two protagonists who unleash tons of conflict in their wake.” — RT Book Reviews

“The book is so readable…Kathryn Shay writes some of the cleanest prose around, and it’s my belief she’d make the Yellow Pages sound interesting if the phone company put her on staff…the story was brisk and kept me reading. And Ms. Shay knows her way around a steamy love scene.” The Romance Reader

“TIES THAT BIND was a compelling story that evoked strong emotions and I…found that I was compelled to turn the pages.” Joyfully Reviewed.

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first ‘romance,’ a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists – and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women’s college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who’d attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, “I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that.”

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she’d again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-two books for Harlequin, ten mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations – readers say they feel they know the people in her books – and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has had a one of her books serialized in the December 2003 COSMOPOLITAN magazine and has been quoted in PEOPLE and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. She has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. “My life is very full,” she reports, “but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams.”
