Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Rachel Devenish Ford’s THE EVE TREE is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, with 4.8 Stars on 13 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Rachel Devenish Ford’s The Eve Tree, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Ten years ago, when her mother retired, Molly Boscelli was called back to her family ranch and goat farm, deep in the remote hills of Northern California. For years she has resented the strong ties of responsibility, but now she finds herself scrambling to find help as a forest fire approaches, threatening the place that she only now realizes is her sanctuary.

Written in three points of view, The Eve Tree tells the story of Molly as she works to overcome mental illness and gathers determination to save her land from fire, of her husband, Jack, as he faces the thing he fears most, and of Molly’s mother as she digs deeply into the past to find the healing that both she and Molly need.

It is a novel about the beauty and difficulty of loving people, the desperation and longing of commitment, and a family who work to find their place on the earth in the shape of their land.

Author Rachel Devenish Ford presents a debut novel rich with emotion and need.

From the reviewers:

From : “A beautiful and haunting tale about generations connected by livelihood and place, Ford evokes the great books by Kingsolver and Steinbeck. Lush prose, conflicted characters so vividly drawn you would recognize them passing them on the street, and a gorgeous taste of environmental debate. Ford never gets pedantic, but blends thoughtful reflection and the urgency of fighting fires both metaphoric and literal in this expertly written novel.”  – Ecowomen.net

Savor this one.  What a beautiful book! While some of the other reviews say you’ll want to read “The Eve Tree” in one sitting, I suggest that you take the opposite approach: Read a couple of chapters, then set the book aside and think about it, then read a little more, and then think more. Enjoy the book slowly. Savor it. Don’t race through to see what happens next. You’ll get to the end eventually and in the meantime, will be able to slowly enjoy Rachel Devenish Ford’s beautiful creation.  –  Jennifer B.

A Treasure.  In this story of a family, a ranch and a fire, Rachel Devenish Ford has created a mesmerising work of art. Hers is a unique style which combines detailed realism with lyrical fantasy, creating a world so powerful that it left me feeling elated. Devenish Ford understands the complexities of human relationships, and when she reveals these truths she also reveals the beauty of life.   If you’ve ever struggled with your role as a mother, a daughter or a wife then this novel is your comfortable place to fall. Most importantly, if you have struggled with (in Devenish Ford’s own words) “the dark, slippery places of the mind” then I urge you to rush to read this novel. It will bring you through the fire safely, and prove to you that the wildflowers can still bloom.  –  Eleanor

Mesmerizing and Heart-Touching  –  ElleBee

Lovely and profound  – Cate Moon

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Let author Lisa Olsen be your guide to the supernatural in our eBook of the Day, ANGEL OF MERCY (The Fallen) – 8 Straight Rave Reviews, Just $2.99 on Kindle – Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Lisa Olsen’s Angel of Mercy, just $2.99 on Kindle :

When Mercy wakes up in the hospital after a brutal stabbing, she has little recollection of the attack; only the blurred memories of a mysterious stranger with piercing blue eyes that haunts her dreams.

After spotting the same man, that only she can see, Mercy follows him home, brazenly confronting him. (Kids at home, never do that!) Her savior turns out to be less than human, or is it more?

Samael is a fallen angel, bound to the Earth and living out his life among humans but apart from them. Unwilling to let an innocent die, Sam bestowed some of his Grace to Mercy, healing her wounds and imbuing her with some of his angelic powers.

Thrust into a world within her own where angels and demons coexist unseen by mortals, Mercy must learn to accept the fact that she is no longer strictly human; she is something new. Complicating things is Adamiel, the reckless fallen angel who is Sam’s enigmatic friend.

Equal parts information and aggravation, Sam and Adam help Mercy acclimate to her new life.  But now Mercy’s eyes are opened to a whole new world beyond the human realm… and their eyes are opened to her.

From the reviewers:

Author Lisa Olsen gives us a sympathetic character in Mercy Renault.  Her quirky voice leads us through the twists and turns as Mercy tries to find her footing, merging her ordinary life with her newfound angelic abilities.  Samael, the introverted fallen angel who accidentally gives Mercy some of his power, is frustratingly literal-minded and little help in her quest to find out what she is.  Sexy bad boy Adam adds just the right amount of friction to her already complicated life and I wasn’t sure if she should kiss him or smack him upside the head.  You might be tempted to cry at the end, but only because you’ve been so caught up in what comes next; it’s a crime that the story is over.   The first in a series, we can only hope that the sequel ties up some of the burning questions we’re left with.

“Great read! I really loved it, and can’t wait for the sequel to come out. My imagination is running wild!” –Marilyn W, AZ

“This book was amazing. I couldn’t put it down. I feel like I know these people now, and I can’t wait to find out what comes next. I mean, what’s not to like? Hot detectives, hot angels, that are fallen to boot, and new superpowers…Mercy is living my dream life.”
–Randi P, OH

“Angel of Mercy” is the story of Merceline, a woman who unexpectedly finds herself thrust in the world of angels and demons after a near death experience leaves her healed by a fallen angel and imbued with some of his powers.   From page one, there was never a moment when I got bored and wanted to put the book down.   –  Amanda Mclain

Are you curious about the balance between good and evil? I enjoyed reading about the surface plot and the not-so-obvious sub-plots as they enfolded. I really couldn’t put this book down it moved so quickly. I sometimes found myself having to reread a section to see if that is what she REALLY said. Wow! It expanded my mind a bit, and made me look around at some of the people I know to wonder, ‘what if’ they might be from another world? another existence? a life beyond what we seem to see?   –   Sprtwareor

The supernatural has long been my favorite to write and read. Werewolves, vampires, witchcraft, ghosts, things that go bump in the night; these are a few of my favorite things to write about. Not sparkly beings with phenomenal cosmic power that are always the smartest, bravest, prettiest Mary Sue to walk the planet, but real people who just happen to have this little quirk…

I am currently working on the sequel to Angel of Mercy – Mercy for the Wicked

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: What to read next after THE HUNGER GAMES? Matt Xell’s TOWER OF PARLEN MIN (Book 1) is our eBook of the Day at just 99 Cents, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Matt Xell’s Tower of Parlen Min (Book 1), just 99 Cents on Kindle:

Ves Asirin, an orphaned and introverted boy with a complicated memory loss disorder, wins a trip to the TOWER OF PARLEN MIN, the home of the wealthiest inventor of the time, Jacobius Trent.

There, with 19 other children, he must compete in the Sword Challenge–a series of intricate puzzles and daring tasks–for a prize of $12 million.

As dazzling, glorious and liberating as the Tower seems to be for him, Ves finds that it keeps a dark and secret history that he has been unknowingly connected to for over 150 years, a secret that will define his future and destiny … if he can escape the shadow: a powerful and seemingly unstoppable supernatural serial killer.

Two more in the series are available via the Author’s Page or Amazon search.

From the reviewers:

I’ve always been a big fan of games, challenges, puzzles etc. in books and this story has a bit of everything, as well as a great storyline to tie it all together. A lot of what Matt Xell decided to put his characters through was highly original and deeply engaging. There tends to be a lot of repeated content in books like these and so Xell’s take added some much needed originality to the genre.   –  Sift Book Reviews

Great price for the content, fantastic adventure.  Ves, being an orphan and winning a once in a lifetime chance of going to the tower is still very cynical especially when it comes to meeting all of the other people in the challenge. But with his inability to remember a lot of things and being in this particular situation, it’s understandable. I have seen characters like him before, but never as the lead. It made for a very insightful view into a real guy’s perspective.  –  Crista “CubicleBlindness”

In this incredible story of young adult, speculative fiction the talented author, Matt Xell, does an amazing job of developing dynamic and unique characters and submersing them into a bizarrely beautiful and terrifying world.   I recommend this book to Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson & The Red Pyramid series) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games series) fans. If you love these authors will ‘eat up’ Matt Xell’s writing. I know I did.   –  Amy M. Jones

Born to rule, yet without a kingdom, Cade must grasp the reins of his own destiny to become both Christian king and pagan hero.  And Rhiann must decide how much she is willing to risk to follow her heart.

And don’t miss Sarah’s bestseller Daughter of Time: A Time Travel Romance while it is just 99 cents on Kindle!

From the reviewers:

As an avid reader of both historical fiction and fantasy, I thought The Last Pendragon was fantastic. Woodbury employs well-researched history, good writing, and a touch of the supernatural to create a compelling narrative of Dark Age Wales. I can’t wait for the sequel!  –  Anna

A Fantastic Tale of Myth and Magic.  Sarah Woodbury weaves a tale of Myth and Magic in “The Last Pendragon: A Story of Dark Age Wales.” The author brings together the Arthurian and Welsh myths, while adding her own style to this story. As a lover of historical fiction and fantasy genres, I quickly found myself immersed into the story that contains a bit of both. We see Cade the last of the Pendragon line trying to take hold of his destiny as King. The theme is non traditional and sets it self apart from most Arthurian legends and stories.   –  Rayven

This is a great tale in all the traditional ways–battles, romance, adventure. It is also set in a fascinating era of early medieval Welsh history unfamiliar to most Americans and, I having been to Wales and England, unfamiliar to most people there too.   –  Glen326

Not Just Another Arthur Retelling.  Being a long time fan of everything related to the King Arthur legend, I was anxious to read this story, which promised to be about the “heir to the throne of Arthur”. I was very pleased to see that this was more than just a retelling of the old King Arthur stories and instead featured a whole new set of characters.    Naturally, this tale would not be complete without a sizeable portion of magic, demons, and swordplay. “The Last Pendragon” delivered nicely on all counts. I would have liked to have seen perhaps a little more magic from the wizard, but the little he did was instrumental to the story.  I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is fond of historical fiction or fantasy novels.   –  Steve Drennon

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: WEST PACIFIC SUPERS: RISING TIDE is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for K.M. Johnson-Weider’s West Pacific Supers:  Rising Tide, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Imagine a world like our own but with superheroes. Would the superheroes change the world or would the world change the superheroes?

It’s 2013 and West Pacific Supers is the professional superhero team for the city of West Pacific in northern California. It’s hard to know what’s more dangerous for the members of West Pacific Supers: the supervillains out to destroy the city or the superazzi determined to uncover all of their dirty secrets. If juggling heroics and public relations weren’t hard enough, the 2013 Season begins with a shocking death. Now new team members must be recruited to counter two major threats: a scientist with an insane plan that threatens California and an enemy from within West Pacific Supers itself. The team will succeed only after taming their massive egos and getting help from unlikely sources. Unfortunately, just like winning fame and fortune, beating the bad guys always comes at a heavy price.

From the Author:

We have a lot of characters in Rising Tide, but each of them is distinct.  Each one sees the world in a different way and each has a distinctive voice. When we were writing the book, there were certain characters that either of us could write for, but there were others that resonated with one of us more than the other. We’re not going to say which, but yes, we do have favorites! Some of the key characters in West Pacific Supers: Rising Tide are as follows:

Seawolf is an obvious mutant who’s still struggling with the anti-mutant sentiments she faced as a child, even though times have changed and the non-mutant Coast Guard liaison to the team keeps trying to ask her out.

Blue Star is a four-time inductee in the Superhero Hall of Fame who can save the world but can’t salvage a relationship for the life of him. West Pacific Supers is his last chance to end his career on a high note.

Cosmic Kid is a cocky young super just coming on the team and looking to prove himself.

Camille’s decade-long marriage is threatened by her unilateral decision to return to the team that once kicked her off for refusing to wear a miniskirt costume.

Loren Polawsky isn’t a real superhero, just a real estate agent struggling to find time for vigilante heroics.

Dr. Noah Brandeis has a crazy plan to make geological history and, with the help of a few insane supervillains, he may just succeed.

From the reviewers:

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun and easy book to read. It was X-Men meets baseball in regards to the the super heros. They were like real people with real problems like us everyday folks.  The West Pacific Supers (WPS) started with a solid team and then two of their major team members were killed. At least 1/2 of the team were put together from a combination of new members and former members. They did not get much time to get to know each other before they were forced to face a few crisis in a a years time.   –  Super

It kept me hooked, though (mostly because of the characters), and I would be interested to see where they (the authors and the heroes) go from here.  –  Scott Evans

Great Start to a new series!  Supernatural Devices is a refreshing book in the crowded young adult fantasy genre. Ms. Gow has crafted a fun and fascinating series with a heroine I admire. Scarlett Seely is the type of girl whom you wish all Victorian ladies were like. Modern ladies, too. Supernatural Devices is fun, sassy, and sexy. I love Scarlett. She is like Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew put together. She arrives in London to work with the famous detective only to find herself entrenched immediately in a mystery that involves supernaturals.   –  amylynn

Kailin Gow Did it Again! Love this new series!  The mystery had me guessing the entire time. Scarlett is called from an Egyptian dig to London where she is to use her supernatural gift to aid a certain detective in locating a gypsy girl. From the start, there is non-stop action.  –  Alley Kat

If Sherlock Holmes had a Daughter!   Supernatural Devices is clever and witty. Lord Darthmoor had me laughing at one moment and then swooning in the next. Tavian is not too bad either.  –  Sara Gage
