“This is a fascinating story with very beautifully integrated historical research. I recommend it to any fan of historical fiction.”

—J. R. Tomlin, Writing And More

Here’s the set-up:

She is healer, hunter, warrior. Her strength will inspire generations. Her courage will found a nation. Experience history as never before. See the history of North America through the eyes of the woman who lived and breathed it: Myeerah of Hawk Clan, Matriarch to a nation.

“Only men have dreams such as this, not girls. Not the daughter of a slave.” So begins an adventure that will span eight decades across two continents and dozens of historical figures. From swashbuckling pirates on the high seas to the slave traders of Mexico, to the genocidal wars of North America, Pearson Moore engages from the very first page, using a vibrant prose style that captivates the imagination, and the heart.

Twelve years of intensive research went into building the rich historical background for Cartier’s Ring, including dozens of trips to Québec, Montréal, Upstate New York, and Midland, Ontario. But it is the emotional depth of Myeerah’s story that brings the novel to life. You will feel her pain as she is beaten and enslaved, touch her tear-streaked face as she witnesses the ritual torture and execution of her brother, share in her joy as she overcomes deprivation and starvation, and cheer when she vanquishes her enemies… This novel is unabashed in its proclamation of feminine strength, courage, and tenacity.

One Reviewer Notes:

“What a masterful story Cartier’s Ring is. Mr. Moore had me feeling like I took every step with a realistic heroine who shaped Canadian history. He writes with such confidence I never once doubted the realism of this time period. I highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates one of the best researched and intelligently written novels they could ever hope to read regarding the people who made Canada their home long before the French arrived. You’ll not easily forget them.

“Bill Shepard’s first thriller combines diplomacy, terrorism and high stakes politics… A great read!”

“Bill Shepard and I served as diplomats in France, he as Consul General in Bordeaux, and his knowledge of that region… is encyclopedic. He has adroitly used this knowledge to weave a fascinating story. If you like Bordeaux wine, read Vintage Murder.”

–-Evan Galbraith, former United States Ambassador to France

Here’s the set-up:

Vintage Murder is set in Paris and Bordeaux, France. It takes you behind the scenes of high stakes diplomacy, and into the shadow world of ETA terrorism. Vintage Murder is the first in the series of four “diplomatic mysteries” which have appeared to date.

In Vintage Murder, American diplomat Robbie Cutler witnesses the murder of America’s leading wine critic at a vintage dinner at the Willard Hotel in Washington. Returning to the Consulate in Bordeaux, he is threatened by the Basque ETA, “the last active terrorist network in Western Europe.” A love story ensues, set against the scenic glories of France, as the lovely Sophie Marceau, a journalist, helps Cutler discover that the Washington murder is linked with terrorist threats against Bordeaux’s famous vineyards. They explore the wine regions of Bordeaux, attend a reception at storied Château Margaux, and visit Lourdes, Montségur, and the prehistoric Caves at Lascaux,.

Robbie Cutler and Sylvie Marceau must stop the ETA killers, and the stakes are raised with the visit of a prominent United States Senator of Basque origin. He and Robbie Cutler are both targeted for assassination, in a thrilling conclusion that takes place in the storied wine city of St. Emilion. And you will be present at a special dinner reception at the American Embassy in Paris, as you match wits with Robbie – and the ETA.

One Reviewer Notes:

Vintage Murder has that tone and pacing of those good mysteries of the past. I really enjoyed the story. When Robbie Cutler tries to solve an American wine writer’s death he becomes a target for murder himself. The story traverses France and Spain – you’ll enjoy the scenery. I did! Robbie’s a smooth customer and Sylvie certainly agrees. I liked the romantic thread of Robbie and Sylvie’s developing relationship. A little mystery, a little romance…a good read!

–Nancy L. Naigle

About the Author

I have enjoyed writing about wine, and diplomacy. But one night, when I was on duty in the Executive Secretariat of the State Department, I wondered why there had been no diplomatic sleuths. Career diplomats see so many sources of information, that the connection of diplomacy and crime solving seemed natural. And so, on retiring after service at five diplomatic missions abroad, and a number of Washington assignments, I created a new mystery genre, the “diplomatic mystery.” There are now four novels in the series, with Robbie Cutler, a career diplomat, as the protagonist. “Vintage Murder” is the first in this series.

“Combining elements of classic fairy tales, horror stories and classic literature, this book draws you in and doesn’t let go.

–Jennifer

Here’s the set-up:

Phoebe MacIntire, who is a servant to her father and sisters in her own house in Scotland in 1855, is an ordinary girl, with no big dreams for the future. She’s perfectly happy in her humble life, with her cot in the basement and her little garden in the backyard. But when her father up and sends her to Newfoundland to be the lifelong servant to Lord Jacobs, she finds her life gets turned upside down.

Her journey across the Atlantic to her new home is long, scary and very unpleasant. When she arrives at the manor on a small island, she finds the beautiful place abandoned and only a note waits for her explaining her duties, the strange dietary requirements, and sleeping habits of her new master.

The very first night in her new home she’s haunted in her dreams by a woman who clearly does not want her there and a strange blue-eyed man-wolf creature that follows the woman. Her dreams become more and more violent and mysteries start to be uncovered about a woman who was killed in a fire on the island, a creature that preys on anyone that comes to the island and a love story gone wrong that dates back over a hundred and twenty two years.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Phoebe is the youngest daughter of a cruel old man. Her mother died giving birth to her and her father blames her for his financial problems resulting from a childhood case of polio. Phoebe’s father has one goal in life; to marry his other two daughters off to rich husbands. Phoebe’s fate is not a happy one as her father will never be able to marry her off, so he sells her as a servant. Phoebe takes a long journey to Newfoundland. Phoebe is an intriguing character. She is very intelligent. It was such a joy, watching Phoebe and Nate fall in love and watching that love blossom. All the while Phoebe and Nate are being haunted by the malignant spirit of Emma. I highly recommend this author, you will fall in love with Phoebe, Nate, Liam, and Samuel. I hope Ms. Tolles continues this story with a sequel.

–M. Decena

“Like a fever, SICK makes you sweat and keeps you up all night, wondering what the hell is happening. It’ll make your heart race like someone shot you with an EpiPen. You think Battles was badass before? He just cranked it up to 500 joules. CLEAR!”

popculturenerd.com

Here’s the set-up:

Daniel Ash wakes after midnight to the cry of his daughter. Just a bad dream, he thinks. She’s had them before. Yet he can’t help but worry when she cries out again as he pads down the hallway. Stepping through her doorway, he expects to find her sitting up in bed, frightened by a nightmare.

But the nightmare is his. It’s real. And it’s just beginning…

Something is burning Ash’s daughter alive. Something horrible that is spreading beyond the walls of their home, and taking no prisoners. Thirty seconds later, Ash will discover his daughter isn’t the only one in his family infected, and as his world spins, coming apart at the seams, a team of armed men in biohazard suits bursts into his house.

But these aren’t the good guys.

They haven’t come to save Ash’s family. They’ve come to separate them, to finish what they started. The problem is Ash refuses to disappear. He wants only one thing: to find those responsible.

Because humanity is on the brink of execution. And man is pulling the trigger.

One Reviewer Notes:

SICK is highly contagious and you’re not immune. You’re infected from the first paragraph and pulled along at a fever pitch.

You wake up one night to discover your son and wife appear dead and your daughter is sick. The authorities tell you that you your kids and wife are dead and you find yourself in a cell block of a government facility. As you fight to find the truth about your children you are taken on a nightmare ride discovering the stakes are much higher, the near extinction of the human race.

SICK is not a “madman tries to end the world” troupe. This is the story of one man caught up in a secret war between a shadowy government backed organization and an equally secret group with astounding resources. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

–MacDuff

“”The dialogue is crisp, the jokes are funny and the setting as nutty as any city slicker can believe.

–Margaret Cannon, Globe & Mail

Here’s the set-up:

With its seven-foot snakes and nasty horses, Florida ranch country can be as dangerous as the mean streets of any big city. Sherri Travis doesn’t do country. She likes it even less when she meets Clay Adams’ psychotic neighbors and finds a dead man in the back of her pickup. With fairy lights dancing through the Spanish moss and violent men closing in, the surprise birthday party Sherri plans for Clay turns deadly. And while it isn’t the party Sherri hoped for, it’s a good one just the same.

One Reviewer Notes:

“This is the 4th of what I hope are many more mysteries involving Sherri Travis… Sherri’s wit gets sharper, funnier and yes, scarier. She’s a strong minded woman who’s not at all reluctant about saying her mind… which can/does lead to trouble. Author’s description of Florida is so right on accurate, it’s difficult to believe she isn’t a native Floridian. Not just the coastal life either… deeply into Florida. It’s perfect. WRITE ON, Phyllis!

–Ezlypist

Rumpel is a dark, complicated book with many layers and pieces… I’m only disappointed that I can’t give it more stars.

–DarkReader

Here’s the set-up:

Why did Rumpelstiltskin want a baby? What was he going to do with it once he got it? What was his childhood like? What was his world like? Who were the people in his life? How could he spin straw into gold?

Rumpel is the dark and quirky retelling of the Brothers Grimm Rumpelstiltskin which answers all of these questions and more.

While Rumpelstiltskin forged ahead with his plan, a battle between his world and another world was brewing, and a forbidden romance between a prince and a common girl was being tested. In the end, the spinning wheel will determine the fates of everyone.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Eileen Cruz Coleman’s RUMPEL has given new life to the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. In Ms. Coleman’s version the devious Rumpelstiltskin still strikes a deal with a poor miller: a magic spinning wheel that turns straw into gold in exchange for his unsuspecting daughter’s first born. But from royalty and common folk to spirits, trolls, witches, and angels, there’s so much more to the tale this author weaves, one that in many ways parallels the injustice of modern society–misuse of power, forbidden romance, unyielding discrimination, and poverty at its worse. RUMPEL is a must read for anyone who enjoys a thought-provoking escape into Old World fantasy.

–Loretta Giacoletta

Bonus!

Rumpel now includes an excerpt from Eileen Cruz Coleman’s upcoming novel, Salted Earth, a post-apocalyptic, steampunkish, Young Adult retelling of the Brothers Grimm Godfather Death.

“Ms. Stella has penned a fun and light hearted read, which was a pure pleasure to read. Fun characters, and storyline made this a quick “Perfect for Anytime” read.

–Kristi Ahlers, Top 500 Reviewer

Here’s the set-up:

A man with a plan, a woman with a dream — two hearts on fire! In this spirited, contemporary romance, undercover agent Jack Benton is on a mission to save his beloved aunt’s failing dolphin facility in the Florida Keys. He’s positive he can close a deal, until his sassy Aunt Ruby accepts the research proposal of world-renowned marine mammal scientist Dr. Vic Sheffield. Now, Jack must cooperate with the project or break Ruby’s heart.

More than the Keys’ temperature heats up when Victoria Sheffield finesses her way into the facility under her famous father’s name, hoping to finally establish her own reputation. A lifetime of behavioral observation hasn’t prepared her for a suspicious, sexy homo-sapien like Jack. She’ll need every point of her elevated I.Q. to out-wit this wily alpha male. He knows she’s hiding something and, in the meantime, more than his suspicions are aroused.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Severely injured on the job, DEA Undercover Agent Jack Benton is on medical leave recuperating at Dolphin Land in the Florida Keys. His beloved Aunt Ruby Maguire, a widow of six months, owns the dilapidated facility that Jack wants to sell to developers so the woman who raised him could live a pampered life. Ruby refuses to sell because the six dolphins who reside in the lagoon are family to her. Instead she agrees to allow Delphind Prize winner Dr. Vic Sheffield to conduct research here.

Vic is actually Victoria as she uses her ailing father’s name to research the cooperative communication between Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Victoria and Jack are attracted to one another, but he remains suspicious of her motives though he finds her energy quite exhilarating. As her research takes focus and she falls in love with Jack, his aunt, and the sextet of dolphins, Victoria has money problems and worse her ex is trying to blackmail his way onto her study; he stole her work on their so-called collaborative efforts. Jack will do anything including give up undercover work and stop a sleazy rat when it comes to his Vic.

About the Author

A voracious book fan since first learning to read, I fell in love with romance novels while pursuing my B.A. degree in English decades ago. A professional writer since someone first paid me to write radio commercials while I was still in college, I always dreamed of writing a book someday.

All Keyed Up, a humorous contemporary romance set at a dolphin facility in the Florida Keys with a determined researcher and a stubborn DEA agent, is my debut novel, originally published in print format a few years ago. Key of Sea, published a year later, proves that an ex-trophy wife can create a new life for herself, find love again with a younger man, and successfully battle land crabs.
