Wylie, his daughter, a local guide, and his friend, an archeologist (who is more than he seems), and porters set out using various ruses to throw their pursuers off track. Wylie narrowly escapes from the local police after being tortured and losing a toe. But can they cross the foreboding eighteen thousand foot high pass and make it to Cajamarca in time to take the only safe flight home and deliver the documents?

Glorious…This is the sort of original and intelligent book that is very difficult to stop reading once you start, as it bursts with action or interesting detail at every turn. I learned a great deal about Peruvian politics and history while I was entertained, and it’s one of those review books I keep after reading it. Recommended. 4.5/5 stars. – SPR Review
