Children of a Broken Sky (Redemption Chronicle Book 1)

by Adam J Nicolai
4.6 stars – 48 reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

A sin buried at the dawn of time. A world made to endure the consequences.

For untold ages, darkness has built upon darkness. Now, at last, the hope of redemption glimmers.

Lyseira grew up in a little village beneath a mountain’s shadow, where she and her friends discovered a secret long lost — a secret that would shake the world to its bones.

Now, as she comes of age, her friend Helix is accused of murder and sentenced to death. Forced to choose between watching him die and the staggering risk of rescuing him, she launches her friends on an unforgettable journey — one that will change them all forever, and set the world itself down the path of history.

You know their names. You know that, in time, every mortal in our world would come to fear or love them. But there is more to the story, and to fully understand who they were and the choices they made, you have to start at the beginning.

Read the story now. Learn, at last, the truth.

Because before they were legends, they were children.

Here’s the set-up:

The peasants called it “The Storm.”

On a cold autumn morning seven years ago, the sky exploded with silent lightning. In its wake, everything changed.

Now the sun rises in the south, if it rises at all. Animals go mad. Crops ripen and die overnight. The Church – a body of miracle-workers who can heal the sick and walk through fire – warns that God’s final judgment is at hand.

The world will soon end.

Now, stories tell of men that speak with beasts and peasants who work their own miracles. The Church decries these heretics, hunting them like animals and demanding the same of the faithful.

In a remote village, a small group of childhood friends are caught in the crossfire. Accused of heresy by the Church and sentenced to death, they escape their village as it burns behind them.

But some may find hope.

Their Church hunts them. A cursed world assails them. To survive, one of them will learn the true meaning of her beliefs; another, that some portents can be deceiving. But only one revelation has a chance to save them:

That they are not forsaken. They have each other.

Bestselling Kindle Suspense author Adam J. Nicolai invites you to a land beneath a broken sky, where sorceries clash with miracles, mountains are crowned with lightning, and conviction can topple empires.

Mr. Nicolai's brutally straightforward prose and clear love for his characters... combine into something vital and hungry (like the early works of - dare I speak his name? - Stephen King).

Here's the set-up:
With a masterful hand, suspense newcomer Adam J Nicolai paints a picture of grief, madness, and the furious strength of a father's love for his son.
One Reviewer Notes:
Mr. Nicolai maintains a sense of creeping disquiet and uncertainty throughout the narrative; I was unsure whether Ian was haunted by his son or slowly going crazy until the last few pages of the novel.

About the Author
Adam J Nicolai lives near Minneapolis, MN with his wife, Joy, and their two children, Isaac and Rydia. He is a life-long nerd, game lover, author, Star Wars fan, Dungeon Master, and amateur game designer, as well as a former policy debate coach. He is currently a Project Manager for a major medical insurance company. He started writing in elementary school, creating Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style books while he was supposed to be listening in class. His creative expressions widened to include video game design; he filled countless additional notebooks with expansive maps, dialog trees, loot lists, game stats, and mechanics. When he got older he was known to occasionally draft his younger cousin into play-testing, and authored three rule sets for role-playing games (which his gaming peers readily play-tested, in role-playing campaigns that lasted for 5 years or more). He married his wife, Joy, in 1997. She was seventeen. They promptly moved cross-country together to Washington, DC. Nine months later they decided DC sucked, and moved back to Minnesota, where they have lived happily ever since. Adam self-published his first novel, Alex, in November, 2011 after becoming disillusioned with the traditional publishing industry. You will hear more from him.
