This novel is rich in descriptions so you feel that you are truly in the midst of the Johnson family. Because of the creative way the author draws you into the family's worst nightmare, you experience all the emotions of the parents and children. One Reviewer Notes:
I grew up in 70s Seattle and she hit it right on the spot. It was a strange time when the small town big city lost her innocence. She brought me right back to my childhood while spinning a captivating tale. It's appropriate for teens as well as adults...might give the younger generation a more real idea of life before cable TV, computers, cell phones and the rest of the digital age. When we played outside ans really did explore abandoned houses ride mini bikes through wooded areas and climb onto roofs in the city limits. Now our kids can't even go barefoot, and the world is much less innocent. Enjoy this look at the good and not so good of the “good ole days“ her excellent story painting draws for you. I could see everything like a movie ln my head.

Pike Place is a wonderful book! While the fictional story is told through the eyes of a 10-year-old girl, Bobbi Johnson, it's a book for all ages - especially for those who experienced growing up in the 1970s. It's a story about a young girl's coming of age and how an unforeseen incident removes the "safety net" around the world as she knows it and around her family. Bobbi is reminiscent of other heroines such Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird or Anne in Anne of Green Gables
