Here's the set-up:
John Milton considers himself an artisan. A master of killing.

Milton is the man the British government calls on to eliminate the worst of the worst: the enemies of the state that MI5 and even the military can’t stop.

Years of state-sanctioned murder has taken its toll. Milton is troubled by nightmares, a long line of ghosts who torment his dreams. He resolves to make his next job his last and, then, perhaps, he can start to make amends for everything that he has done.

Sharon Warriner is a single mother in the East End of London, suicidal with fear that she’s lost her young son to a life in the gangs. After Milton saves her life, he promises to help. But the gang, and the charismatic rapper who leads it, is not about to cooperate with him.

As London burns through summer riots, Milton finds himself in unfamiliar territory, dealing with an unfamiliar foe. And when his employer sends another agent after him, the odds against him are stacked even higher.
One Reviewer Notes:
The book is superbly written, moving along at a fast pace and with set piece scenes that unfold cinematically. That's doubly impressive given the restricted scope - this is no rambling action story with dozens of bad guys conveniently throwing themselves in front of the hero's gun - this is closed in, constricted, and oppressive, set in a superbly realized contemporary London estate with all the attitude, language and ambition that you would expect. Setting the climax amidst the riots of 2011 is another clever move, and we can see as Milton's quest reached its conclusion just as the temperature reaches boiling point. The final shoot-out coincides with the worst of the violence in a nice touch.

The new book from acclaimed writer Mark Dawson (author of the #1 bestselling JOHN MILTON series), IN COLD BLOOD is an action-packed thriller about ruthless betrayal and bloodthirsty vengeance.

Beatrix Rose was the most dangerous assassin in an off-the-books government kill squad until her former boss betrayed her. A decade later, she emerges from the Hong Kong underworld with payback on her mind. They gunned down her husband and kidnapped her daughter, and now the debt needs to be repaid. It’s a blood feud she didn’t start but she is going to finish.

Beatrix has already crossed one name off her Kill List. Her second target is a mercenary being held hostage by Somali terrorists. Can she infiltrate the most dangerous failed state on the planet and scrub him off the List, too?

Packed with explosive action and page-turning suspense, this is the must-read first novel in a brand new series that is sure to be as successful as the John Milton series

Meet John Milton

He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder.

Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn’t pick him out of a crowd but you wouldn’t want to be on his list. But now, after ten years, he’s had enough – there’s blood on his hands and he wants out. Trouble is, this job is not one you can just walk away from.

He goes on the run, seeking atonement for his sins by helping the people he meets along the way. But his past cannot be easily forgotten and before long it is Milton who is hunted, and not the hunter.

The Cleaner
