Kindle Nation Bargain Book Alert: 12 Straight rave Reviews and Just 99 Cents! Jimmy O’Brien Returns in Jeff Sherratt’s THE BRIMSTONE MURDERS
“The Brimstone Murders is filled to the brim with good fun and great action. Jeff Sherratt has come up with a winner in this wonderful vintage mystery featuring criminal defense attorney Jimmy O’Brien. “
“Reading The Brimstone Murders is like going to an old fashioned Saturday matinee so sit back and enjoy the action, the fun, and the cast of colorful characters. Popcorn optional. ”
“This entertaining legal thriller hooks the audience the moment Jimmy’s client mentions the Lord told him to kill the professor and never slows down until the final confrontation. The story line in many ways is more of an investigative thriller filled with twists and red herrings as makes inquires into the evangelistic world, but also has strong legal subplots. Fans will appreciate THE BRIMSTONE MURDERS as the odds are SIX TO FIVE AGAINST the hero (see ONE, TWO, & EVEN for a previous O’Brien case). ”

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: David Scott Milton’s IRON CITY is our eBook of the Day – a 5-star read at just $2.99, and here’s a Free Sample!
Here’s the set-up for David Scott Milton’s Iron City, just $2.99 on Kindle:
Frank Kalinyak, disgraced ex-cop, returns to Pittsburgh, Pa., “Iron City”, his hometown, from Tucson where he has been living a desperate existence since the death of his young daughter.
He has been summoned home by Bobby Mack, an Assistant D.A., to find out who murdered an old high school friend. Kalinyak is swept into a whirlpool of bizarre killings, religious fanaticism, church duplicity, hustlers, cops, junkies, old friends gone bad.
Amid the fractured landscape of Iron City, rusting mills, rotting industry, he struggles to find sense in his life. Ultimately he must ask: who is he and can he survive?
From the reviewers:
“David Scott Milton can write like an angel… a writer hell bent on fulfilling the legacy of John Steinbeck, carrying on the tradition of James Jones and exploring his own heights.” — Alabama Journal
“It was my misfortune to have missed ‘The Quarterback,’ and thus be unaware of this fine, unflinching writer. He does not prettify, embroider, ornament of otherwise offend against the utter dignity of his hard, enduring characters; out of their meanness, and misery, he has made a story which I envy, in prose as clean and businesslike as a switchblade. Make sure everybody hears about this book; it’s not about a gambler and a broad and a fighter at all—it’s about the human condition, and it’s beautiful.” — George V. Higgins, author of “The Friends of Eddie Coyle”
David Milton creates a realistic setting in and around Pittsburgh for Frank Kalinyak, a disgraced ex-cop, to come home to. On most levels, this is a well-written book with strong characters and vivid settings, but there are some scenes with multiple characters that go on a bit too long. The characters are talking about old times and keep mentioning a church that was closed down and at times it gets a bit convoluted. If you would like a visit to Pittsburg and hang out with a few of the guys there for a good mystery, this would be a good book to read. — Maryann Miller

Kindle Nation Bargain Book Alert: Download it now and you’ll be all set to curl up this weekend with Kathleen Shoop’s bestseller The Last Letter – Over 60 rave reviews and just 99 cents on Kindle!
Katherine Arthur’s mother arrives on her doorstep, dying, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget.
When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted. But she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie’s husband Frank, it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But, it was a society of uncertainty—a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.
Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine’s world apart.
Now, seventeen years later, and far from the homestead, Katherine has found the truth: she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it’s too late?
Kathleen Shoop, PhD, is a language arts coach in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Last Letter is her debut novel.
She is published in four Chicken Soup for the Soul books and regularly places articles and essays in local magazines and newspapers. Kathleen is also married and the mother of two children.
