Here’s the set-up:

Liz’s best friend rode off on the back of a motorcycle when she was 16 years old. Her body parts washed up on the shores of a Virginia beach community days later, prompting Liz’s parents to sequester her away to Richmond, far away from the vicious murder. Now on her own, Liz returns to take back that part of her life and make peace with the events of her 16th summer. John Williams’ heart broke when, after being questioned in the grisly murder, Liz’s parents spirited her away for good, leaving him grieving for his forsaken love. With the guidance of his father, the community preacher, John moves on with a clear understanding of his life’s mission. When another body turns up, savagely hacked-up on the side of the road, safety becomes elusive, even in the small community church where the answers are hidden. Liz and John have to face the truth that the killer is still out there. Watching. Waiting for them.

  • “. . . M.J. Rose is a bold, unflinching writer and her resolute honesty puts her in a class by herself.” — Laura Lippman
  • “A riveting novel, and a true feast for the senses.” — Romance Reviews Today on The Halo Effect
  • “Utterly fascinating! . . . This is one book that will keep you glued to your seat.” — New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner

As one of New York’s top sex therapists, Dr. Morgan Snow sees everything from the abused to the depraved. The Butterfield Institute is the sanctuary where she tries to heal these battered souls.

The Scarlet Society is a secret club of twelve powerful and sexually adventurous women. But when a photograph of the body of one of the men they’re recruited to dominate — strapped to a gurney, the number 1 inked on the sole of his foot — is sent to the New York Times, they are shocked and frightened. Unable to cope with the tragedy, the women turn to Dr. Morgan Snow. But what starts out as grief counseling quickly becomes a murder investigation, with any one of the twelve women a potential suspect.

The case leads Detective Noah Jordan — a man with whom Morgan has shared a brief, intense connection — to her office. He fears the number on the man’s foot hints that the killings have just begun. With her hands tied by her professional duty, Morgan is dangerously close to the demons in her own mind — and the flesh-and-blood killer.

Here’s the set-up:
  • There are many plot twists and turns in this masterfully written book chronicling the life of a mercenary named Fezariu. Fezariu’s Epiphany is a fantasy work on a grand scale in which you enter an imaginatively drawn world filled with many lands and spanning great periods of time.Jason Sullivan – Different Outcomes and author of The Dark Yergall
  • When a reader that normally does not like fantasy novels set in world with unknown names falls in love with a book from that genre, then you know the author did a spectacular job of bringing their story to life for all to enjoy. I am that reader that does not normally like fantasy novels and for one to have me sit down and read it from cover to cover says a lot about the book and the author. I highly recommend this book to readers of all genres.– Talina Perkins – Bookin’ It Reviews/Night Owl Review
  • Jessamine is the saddest character in the book and her self sacrificing behavior is as misguided as it is laudable. You can almost smell the filth and corruption that permeates Clarendon, a true cesspool of a city. This is a story of how a boy grows into being a man and accepting his faults and redeeming his failures. I recommend it.– William Bentrim – Azure Dwarf and author of The Adventures of Hardy Belch

12-year-old Fezariu thought his mother died when he was little, but when his beloved stepfather dies the boy discovers she is alive and well – and working at the most famous brothel in all of Elenchera. When she cruelly rejects him it’s more than he can bear, and he runs away to join a band of ruthless soldiers for hire. The Merelax Mercenaries will fight for anyone who can pay them, no matter the justice of the cause.

Fezariu grows up among the soldiers and becomes one of them. He thinks his time with the mercenaries has hardened him. But a campaign in his old home town pushes him too far, and he discovers what really happened to his mother. Maybe there are some things money shouldn’t buy… and maybe it’s time Fezariu took his revenge.

Here’s the set-up:

“Is It Just Me? or Is Everyone a Little Nuts!” offers a laugh out loud look at parenting, marriage, aging and small town living from an suburban point of view.

Written in short chapters, Coltman retells everyday life events, conversations and stories infused with her skewed sense of humor. These small snippets of life are moments in which anyone can identify and laugh at themselves as well. Middle age can be boring, but Coltman allows the naughty into her life from time to time, like her adult Scout Troop, “Cougar Scouts” Troop 69, or conversations between her middle aged self and her seventeen year old self that will leave you rolling ( and remembering!) A great quick read!!

Here's the set-up:
Meet Julia Jackson. Apparently, she's been abducted....

A woman is taken at gunpoint from the downtown office of Southeastern Insurance, and the police believe the victim is Special Agent Julia Jackson. Only it isn't true.

Now, with the help of her new partner Mark Vincent, state fraud investigator Julia Jackson must find justice for the woman who was taken in her place.

As Vincent and Julia begin to unravel the multimillion-dollar frauds that led to the abduction, they encounter a cast of quirky characters, one of whom will go to desperate lengths to hide a deadly secret.

Things only become more dangerous as bodies begin accumulating around town, and Julia must discover the truth before the abductor comes to rectify his mistake.

Absolute Liability is the first in the six-book Southern Fraud Thriller series, which blends suspense, humor, and Southern charm with just a touch of romance. If you enjoy reading humorous mysteries or watching TV crime dramedies like Castle, The Mentalist, or In Plain Sight, you should like Absolute Liability.
One Reviewer Notes:
I stumbled across this book by accident and I have to say--I found it highly entertaining and the characters so well rounded I was sucked in from the first page. Julia is a funny, fierce, compassionate woman who just wants to do what's right without getting herself killed in the process. Her familial demons add another layer to her character and I suspect those threads of life experiences will be woven throughout this series. Lots of clues to keep you guessing and tension on every page. Readers will especially appreciate the portrayal of a female protagonist with a backbone of steel. A gem in the mystery/thriller genre and an author to be watched.

Riley Mansfield is not your typical hero. He writes songs for a living, smokes pot for recreation and just wants to live and let live. But when he foils an apparent terrorist plot to blow up a small plane over his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, he is thrust into the spotlight, which is exactly where he doesn t want to be.

Suddenly, everyone wants a piece of him, including both major political parties. They aren’t willing to take no for an answer, partly because it’s an election year and partly because what happened on the plane may be a bit more complicated than it appears.

Emboldened by his own obstinacy, Mansfield and his Girl Friday, Melissa Franklin, lead the government and the Republicans on a sometimes merry, sometimes painful, sometimes lucky chase. Along the way, they stumble across unlikely friends–a Democrat strategist, a Rolling Stone writer, a pair of sympathetic FBI agents and ruthless enemies.

Theirs is a love affair of sex, drugs and country-folk set against a backdrop of political scheming, hidden agendas and an unraveling plan to maintain control of the government.

The American people deserve to know the truth, and it’s up to Riley to tell them…if he can live long enough to get the chance.

From the reviewers:

Just like a good country song it has everything. It has political intrigue, romance, suspense, humor and surprise plot swings. I laughed, said ‘wow’ out loud several times, and I bet some people might even blush. Congratulations, Monte! Your character, Riley Mansfield, gave me a fun day of reading that made me want to skip watching Sunday NFL football and the NASCAR race.  –  S. Sheppard

A real joy ride!  It is pure entertainment. Many of Riley’s original song lyrics are included in the book, and I could not stop myself from visiting YouTube to see and hear Monte play and sing these very same tunes.   I recommend this book to anyone that loves “home grown” folk music and a great down to earth protagonist with the audacity to take on the political machine.  –  E.J. Kelton

The Audacity of Dope needs every one of its 390 pages to tell the full story, and its a great story. There are some things I don’t particularly like about protagonist Riley Mansfield, but I like the guy. The supporting cast of characters is also very well developed. This is an easy, action-packed and, strangely enough, believable story, one that takes several turns and gets told from several angles  –  Joe

Monte Dutton lives in Clinton, South Carolina. In high school, he played football for a state championship team, then attended Furman University, Greenville, S.C., graduating in 1980, B.A., cum laude, political science/history.

His NASCAR writing has been syndicated by King Feature Syndicate in the form of a weekly page, “NASCAR This Week.”

Dutton is also the author of Pride of Clinton, a history of high school football in his hometown, 1986; At Speed, 2000 (Potomac Books); Rebel with a Cause: A Season with NASCAR’s Tony Stewart, 2001 (Potomac Books); Jeff Gordon: The Racer, 2001 (Thomas Nelson); Postcards from Pit Road, 2003 (Potomac Books); Haul A** and Turn Left, 2005 (Warner Books), True to the Roots: Americana Music Revealed, 2006. Here’s the set-up:
When thirty-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family’s summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day.

T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He’s almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn’t bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family – and a stack of overdue assignments – instead of his friends.

Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.’s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter. Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.’s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

On the Island is a thoughtful, intricate musing on the human need for more than mere survival. It explores the meaning of bonds formed in isolation, and the ways those bonds are bound to change.

From the reviewers:

“Once I began On the Island, I didn’t put it down until I finished the very last page. Tracey Garvis-Graves’ beautiful writing style and her outstanding character development made this story what it is: a phenomenal adult romance novel.” ~ Reading, Eating, and Dreaming

“The relationship between Anna and TJ was sweet and sexy and very real…the idea of their age difference was neither a shock nor unbelievable. The bonds created between individuals under duress are strong and enduring. And the romantic in me loved it as well.” ~ Cricket, Mostly Fantasy

“So much more than a simple survivor story, On The Island takes two highly developed characters–both at turning points in their lives–and forces them into an endurance situation which will alter them both forever. Both characters were incredibly realistic.” ~ Jesi, Diary of a Bibliophile

“On the Island is a clever, captivating story. The characters will live in your thoughts long after you turn the last page.”  ~ Meira Pentermann, author of Firefly Beach

“I wish all books were this well thought out and developed. It exceeded my expectations. A 4 star book for me is one that I can’t put down. A 5 star is when I put it down and I can’t stop thinking about it. Fun, dramatic, serious, and sweet, it will make you think about your own life and relationships.” ~ Kate, Amazon review
