Kindle Nation Daily Mystery Readers Alert! Donna Huston Murray’s SCHOOL Of HARD KNOCKS (THE GINGER BARNES MAIN LINE MYSTERIES) – Now Just 99 Cents on Kindle!

5.0 stars – 3 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled

Here’s the set-up:

Quiet Beech Tree Lane has suddenly become a lightning rod for crime. First, Ginger Barnes’s friend is murdered by a home intruder. Thefts and threats and smashed mailboxes follow; but it’s the mugging of elderly eccentric Letty MacNair that compels Gin to dust off her deerstalker. If an impoverished old woman qualifies as a target, anybody could be next.

[Author’s note: The Letty character happens to be my favorite. Please let me know if you like her too.]

What Readers Are Saying

Murray’s heroine, the plucky impulsive Ginger Barnes, is a full-time wife and mom who slyly reconciles her son to his failure to make the track team, gives affordable wine-and-cheese parties, walks the family dog, plants impatiens by the dozen, and housecleans for the elderly neighborhood eccentric. In School of Hard Knocks, the never-neurotic ever-resourceful housewife deals with a rash of bludgeonings (one fatal), financial hanky-panky, a series of anonymous threats, and the mystery of her hubby’s inattentiveness. Familiar locales are well-observed and minor characters especially pungent.
Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

Great fun to read. I especially loved the next-door neighbor and her antics. She’s my favorite character, too. The ending doesn’t disappoint!

About The Author

Donna Huston Murray and her alter-ego, Ginger Barnes, are almost identical. Both love people, have an earthy sense of humor, and like to think they can fix anything. You can bet that if Gin hangs a chandelier or wrecks a faucet, Murray has done it, too. Fortunately, Gin is “taller, smarter, and braver,” because she stumbles over dead bodies far more often than you might expect.

In addition to the seven Ginger Barnes Main Line mysteries originally published by St. Martin’s Press, Murray has written for MYSTERY SCENE MAGAZINE, READER’S DIGEST, ECHELON, and REDBOOK. Her work can also be found in the Edgar-award winning companion book, THE FINE ART OF MURDER, and the LETHAL LADIES I and II anthologies by Berkley. Her most recent title, LIE LIKE A RUG, received a 4-1/2 star review from ROMANTIC TIMES magazine.

Murray’s husband, Hench, is an educational consultant. They live outside of Philadelphia and have two adult children, Robynne, and Casey.

Kindle Nation Daily Sci-Fi Readers Alert! John C. Brewer’s Page Turner MULTIPLAYER (THE MULTIPLAYER SAGA) – 5.0 Stars on Amazon, All Rave Reviews!

5.0 stars – 22 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

Hector West is a typical kid. He plays soccer, rides dirt bikes, and hangs out with his friends. But all that changes when his father is killed in Iraq and the family moves back to his mom’s dull hometown. Bored and angry, Hector escapes into the online game Omega Wars, where he can reconnect with old friends through his character Izaak Ersatz. In the virtual world, there are few rules, no algebra, and death isn’t permanent.

When Izaak is robbed by a rival gamer known as Mal-X, Hector abandons questing and assembles his clan, the Spartans, to find the cheater and take revenge. But it is real life that turns deadly when Hector discovers that Mal-X’s clan is actually using Omega Wars to plan and train for something that could plunge the real world into a devastating war. And only Hector can stop them.

The seed for Multiplayer sprouted in author John C. Brewer’s head from encountering gamers from around the world while Brewer and his three sons played HALO on XBox-Live. As a physicist and rocket scientist, he was also aware of the technical difficulties government authorities would have monitoring for voice evidence of criminal activity in a mixed data stream, and the idea for the book was suddenly obvious. The military family setting, and the trials that it brings, was a natural backdrop for him, having grown up in a family with a long military history. While Multiplayer’s joys, tragedies and real life challenges appeal to a wide range of readers, Brewer hopes the novel’s context will also draw in those game-playing teens who have given up on books as a source of entertainment.

What Readers Are Saying
Excellent real-world characters and plot, and clearly the beginning of a great franchise! Will make a fantastic movie! Give me more!!! Perfect book for teens and families to share, particularly in households with video gamers. Asks deep questions about the future of technology and society without getting preachy. Tons of action, yet filled with touching moments of humanity. Loved the perfectly structured scenes that show how math and science actually mean something in the real world beyond just passing a test in school. These kind of stories inspire young people to be their best. Where are more books like this? Eagerly awaiting the next book in this series!
Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

Having discovered Brewer when he was a self-published author on Cafe Press, I have found his novels to be hugely entertaining. As a fan of Stephen King and Michael Crichton, I find Brewer to be a naturally gifted story-teller. He balances character, plot, and pace to pull you out of your world into his and, in this case, one step further into a virtual world beyond.

I finished Multiplayer in record time, and, as always, I close the back cover and think, “Man, I can’t wait for the movie.” I look forward to seeing his revised Silla Project on Amazon soon. Like Multiplayer, it’s worth reading again.

About The Author

Author John C. Brewer claims to have once been a time-traveling Shaolin monk, but after taking an arrow to the knee he retired to become a biker, physicist, soccer player, movie-aficionado, rocket scientist, dad and husband. And somewhere in there, he writes books.

John fills his novels with interesting characters in difficult situations. From a teen facing his worst fears in a video-game, to a scientist trapped into developing a tyrannical state’s nuclear capabilities, to environmentalism run amok, his books raise questions about the development and use of technology in society, wrapped in action-packed adventures that leave readers on the edge of their seats.

Here’s the set-up:
In the middle of the night, Thelma Hardy gets a 10 second call from her father: her mother’s dead. She must fly to Palm Beach. The company jet is waiting.
Thelma has little time for sorrow. The stock of Wise Woman Inc. is plummeting, and the eyes of the financial world are watching and waiting. Her father has appointed a male CEO, Steve, breaking with the firm’s tradition of female leadership and enraging the members of the board.
To make matters worse, Thelma’s best friend Lauren manages to miss the funeral, and her longtime friend Cindy decides this is a good time to confess her love for her.
Lauren, an MIT computer wizard, has in fact been there all along. Hours after her mother’s death, there is a mysterious hacking of the company’s firewall. The source is untraceable and the timing dangerous. The firm’s main rival is suspect, and Lauren has come to help identify the attacker.
As Thelma becomes more involved in the business, she finds hints that her father and Steve may be part of a scheme to rob her of her inheritance, and that her mother may not have died of natural causes. Steve realizes Thelma is onto more than he expected and has her followed.
When Thelma mistakenly kills and innocent man, jeopardizing the firms future, Steve decides to take care of the cover-up, and of Thelma as well: he sends her to oversee some factories in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, from where she is not meant to return. She tricks her way out of the trap and returns to Palm Beach, determined to discover the truth about her mother’s death and save her legacy.
With her wits, which many think she is losing, as her only guide, Thelma ventures into a maze of dark family lies and financial intrigue. As she searches for a way out, she will revisit her mother’s struggle for empowerment, transform her idle socialite toys into weapons, and take ownership of her life.

The Ninth Step

Here’s the set-up:

Livie Saunders is fluent in the language of flowers; she taught the meanings to her fiancé, Cotton O’Dell, but then Cotton vanishes without explanation on their wedding day forcing Livie to learn the language of desolation. Heartbroken, she buries her wedding gown beneath a garden pond and resolves to move on, but there are nights when she slips . . . into a sequined red dress and a pair of stiletto heels, a stranger’s bed, a little anonymous oblivion that is not without consequence. Still, she recovers a semblance of ordinary life and imagines she is content. But then, six years later, Cotton returns and her carefully constructed world shatters. The old questions bite like flies. Questions that Cotton O’Dell prays he can answer. He prays that Livie, whom he has never stopped loving, will be moved to forgive him. But there is more than Livie to be concerned about. There is Cotton’s act of cowardice that caused him to become a fugitive in the first place . . . that crime he committed for which the legal clock is still ticking. That thing he did that will shock Livie to her core once she learns of it. Livie is desperate to trust Cotton, but then he goes missing again. Time telescopes, avenues of escape close, and as lives hang in the balance, choice dithers between mercy and revenge. And a decision that will take only a moment will carry the consequences of a lifetime.

THE NINTH STEP is a story of redemption, of being brought to your knees in the sober light of day to face a monstrous error and yet somehow finding the strength to stand up, to try and make it right. Even if that decision breaks your heart, endangers your freedom and ultimately threatens your life.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Diana Estill’s STILETTOS NO MORE is Our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, or Currently FREE for Amazon Prime Members Via the Kindle Lending Library, With 4.0 Stars on 11 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

In this collection of essays, award-winning humorist Diana Estill shares her wacky views on the years between mini-skirts and “Mee-maw” panties, tells the truth about “shapewear,” and offers advice on “how to talk so that your spouse will listen” and other mysteries.

Lamenting she’s “put up with this thong enough,” Estill invokes her inner fashion critic as she tackles midlife with both eyes squinted.

From the reviewers:

Sometime around 50 you realize you’ve said goodbye to your youth and hello to world of bodyshapers, random hair growth and senior specials – whether you want them or not. You can spiral into a funk or you can laugh. Stilettos No More helps you laugh, and laugh and laugh!  –  Jamie Engle

Funny, Down to Earth and Engaging.  …  a funny, down to earth commentary on the realities of aging. It’s not easy facing the physical changes that occur, without permission I might add, to our bodies when middle age and menopause invade, but Estill faces these occurrences with a wicked wit that any woman will identify with (if not openly then secretly) and embrace.  – Judi C.

Diana’s books never disappoint! How she takes everyday dramas and turns them into a comedy reflects her real talent as a writer. You can read the book in one sitting or you can savor the chapters, laughing and enjoying your time with Didi one page at a time.  –  D.S. Weisman

Who’s afraid of Menopause? Not this author. She greets it with tongue-in-cheek humor the borders on total truth. Why DID we ruin our toes and feet to prance around in pointy toed shoes with killer high heels?  I find her humor appealing on every level. I see my aging self in so many of the books scenarios. Her humor gives me hope that in aging not all is lost if you can still laugh at life.  –  J.E. Bodi

Book 3: Sisters of the Strigois - 2011

One Reviewer Notes:
Though geared toward the young adult genre, The Stoker Sisters is a book that easily transcends that age group and will be adored by adults as well. This is a story that has suspense, romance, urban fantasy, and an all around intriguing appeal. Kailin Gow does an amazing job in her characterization of the girls. I honestly found myself not being able to stand Alexis and adoring Sadie. Both sisters are strong, however Alexis is the perfect antagonist that adds conflict to the story, thereby making it increasingly interesting and never dull. I also found myself being pulled toward Keegan, who holds great spirit and appeal.
