It was well written. Just the right amount of mystery, fantasy/paranormal and even a good scare. This story is as good a read for adults as for the young adults it was written for.

Here's the set-up:
Evil has resurrected in the quaint, rural community of Cider Knoll, Kentucky. The day after a country pastor is murdered, a teenage boy vanishes inside an enchanted cave—Devils' Den—that has long been rumored to be haunted. The local sheriff is baffled on how to continue the search and rescue when the only clues end at a mysterious wall inside the cave. Then an unexpected man shows up with an age-worn book that has disturbing revelations about identical phenomena that have occurred every twenty years for the past one hundred forty years. And according to the predictions set inside the book, they have little time to find the boy before he becomes the next victim.
One Reviewer Notes:
In "Devil's Den" we have a bit of horror, mystery suspense and dark paranormal elements that all tie together nicely and lead the reader through the adventures and mishaps experienced by young Justin McKnight at a steady pace that builds anticipation of what comes next without either overwhelming them or causing confusion on what has already happened as in some cases when there are multiple plot lines.

From the reviewers:

“Pardu S. Ponnapalli, an IT specialist with a doctorate in physics, has devised ingenious and potentially world-changing ways to improve things. Many of Ponnapalli’s essays are intellectually challenging, short, well written and entertaining.” –Patty Sutherland, Foreword Clarion Review June 2011

“Ponnapalli’s crazy (impulsive, but fun and thought provoking) ideas cover some timely and popular topics; U.S debt and defecit, overweight, stock market, space exploration, alternative energies, cat litter and more. The book is easy to read.”Recommended & Reviewed in The Mindquest Review of Books, by Lightword Publishing, August 2011

“The essays were well-written and mostly thought through. Based on his personal experience, they were enlightening and at times, laughable. More importantly, they make the reader take the time to think about our future, ponder on the problems, and look for the solutions we need.”–Teri Davis, BestSellersWorld.com, July, 2011

“Some of my fondest memories of university were those informal gab sessions in the common room. Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas reminds me of those times.”Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas presents some good ideas and some not so good ideas. Take them as you will. Laugh at them or be inspired by them.”Tami Brady, TCM Reviews, July 22, 2011

“The act of brainstorming can result in new ideas and surprising results. The author ends each chapter with the words, “Discuss and enjoy!” That is exactly what the reader of this “bunch of crazy ideas” will do.” –Libby Grandy, The US Review of Books

Fossil River

by Jock Miller

5.0 stars – 2 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Fossil fuel has an ageless affinity with dinosaurs. To create oil, dinosaurs died. Now the tables are turning!

The perfect energy storm is sweeping over the United States: Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown has paralyzed nuclear expansion globally, BP’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill has stalled deep water drilling, Arab oil countries are in turmoil causing doubt about access to future oil, the intensity of hurricanes hitting the Gulf’s oil rigs and refineries has intensified due to global warming, and the nation’s Strategic Oil Supply is riding on empty.

As the energy storm intensifies, the nation’s access to Arab oil, once supplying over sixty percent of our fossil fuel, is being threatened causing people to panic for lack of gas at the pumps, stranding cars across the country and inciting riots.

The U.S. Military is forced to cut back air, land, and sea operations sucking up 58% of every barrel of oil to protect the nation; U.S. commercial airlines are forced to limit flights for lack of jet fuel; and businesses are challenged to power up their factories, and offices as the U.S. Department of Energy desperately tries to provide a balance of electric power from the network of aged power plants and transmission lines that power up the nation.

The United States must find new sources of domestic fossil fuel urgently or face an energy crisis that will plunge the nation into a deep depression worse than 1929.

The energy storm is very real and happening this very moment. But, at the last moment of desperation, the United States discovers the world’s largest fossil fuel deposit found in a remote inaccessible mountain range within Alaska’s Noatak National Preserve surrounding six and a half million acres.

Preventing access to the oil is a colony of living fossil dinosaurs that will protect its territory to the death.

Nobody gets out alive; nobody can identify the predator–until Dr. Kimberly Fulton, Curator of Paleontology at New York’s Museum of Natural History, is flown into the inaccessible area by Scott Chandler, the Marine veteran helicopter pilot who’s the Park’s Manager of Wildlife. All hell breaks loose when Fulton’s teenage son and his girlfriend vanish into the Park.

Will the nation’s military be paralyzed for lack of mobility fuel, and will people across America run out of gas and be stranded, or will the U.S. Military succeed in penetrating this remote mountain range in northwestern Alaska to restore fossil fuel supplies in time to save the nation from the worst energy driven catastrophe in recorded history?

Into Astrology? Or Are You Interested In Learning More About Zodiac Constellations? Vasilis Kanatas’ ASTROLOGY OF THE 13 SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC Is An Informative Look At The Influences of The Sciences In Astrology

Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Astrology of the Thirteen Signs of the Zodiac is a book which explains a new theory in this ancient field of study. It was prompted by the fact that Western Astrology has outlived its lifetime and its elements have been rendered obsolete by its cousin, the science of Astronomy. The precession of the equinoxes, that is, the movement of the point of intersection of the celestial equator by the ecliptic by 50.2” (seconds of a degree) each year, prompts corresponding discrepancies in the predictions of astrology, which move further and further away from reality with each passing year. Since 100 A.D., when Claudius Ptolemy wrote his Tetrabiblos, the zodiac constellations have moved approximately 29.2° across the sky, enough to ensure that the predictions of Western Astrology are completely misguided.

The Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac takes into account all available modern scientific information regarding the actual positions of the 13 Zodiac constellations and offers Astrology a way out. The only reasonable path now available to it is the acceptance of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac and the new theory, on the basis of which the Moon and the Sun are given their rightful place. In 13 Zodiac Sign Astrology, the Ascendant is represented by the position of the Moon, the celestial body which truly affects our lives, and not by some distant constellation. Lastly, sunspots, which have a well-documented impact on the Earth and its people, take on an important role in the New Astrology.

Only the Astrology of the 13 Signs of the Zodiac is firmly grounded in the sciences, and particularly in Astronomy. It recognizes the influence that the planets have over our lives through their interactions with the Sun and the disturbances they cause in its magnetic field, and the effect this has on the magnetic field of the Earth itself.

About The Author
Vasilis Kanatas was born in Amfissa, part of the Municipality of Delphi. He is a physicist and wrote his dissertation in Astronomy & Uranography entitled: “Concerning Constellations”.
He is an amateur astronomer and member of the Amateur Astronomy Association “Achyrostrata” (named for an ancient word for our galaxy used by local people), based in the Delphi Municipality.
He is interested in Cosmology and Astrology in an amateur capacity.

Here’s the set-up for Bernard Mooney’s Tough Care, just $8.99 on Kindle:

In Tough Care, Bernard Mooney tells readers how Type 2 Diabetes was the root of the problems that terminated early on the energetic and productive life of his wife Celia. Causing the neuropathy that paralyzed her, it slowly and insidiously damaged the small blood vessels in her brain, which eventually led to a series of transient ischemic attacks and strokes.

“The damaged blood vessels in her brain also generated the dementia that was probably the hardest thing for both of us to handle,” says Mooney.

In his frank and deeply moving memoir, after describing in detail the physical, mental, and emotional challenges he encountered when caring for a dying spouse, he summarizes the lessons he learned, which he hopes will benefit many baby boomers now, or in the future.

“I share these lessons because I believe it is certain that life is too short to learn through your own experiences alone,” he says.

Finding himself compelled by a sense of duty and responsibility to “soldier on” through what seemed like an endless succession of difficulties, ordeals, and personal trials, Mooney felt he had the physical power and emotional strength to care for his wife alone. Looking back, however, he says he should have sought better and more professional help sooner.

He now realizes the importance of communicating with doctors and questioning anything not fully understood, and believes nurses are the very backbone of medical care. Gentle, kind, and compassionate, “they [nurses] could see Celia’s silent pain much better than I could,” Mooney says.

He also emphasizes that hospice care, whether in an institution or at home, is the most humane way to help a loved one pass, and is sure that those who are at the end of their lives choose their own time to leave this world. However, “You will feel guilt whether or not you deserve to be guilty,” says Mooney. “You will feel the universal survivor’s guilt because you are still alive and your mate is not.”

The trick is to not let this guilt turn into blame, and to accept that death occurs due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control.

Encouraging readers to communicate with their loved ones even after they have gone, Mooney also expresses how recalling memories will help with the healing process. “My wife has gone to a better place,” he says. “I am certain that she is glad to be there. I am also glad that her suffering has ended and she is now in a place of rest and peace.”

He made sure she received every form of dignity and respect he could imagine, including her final interment with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery. He feels some relief from having told his story. He hopes his book will provide a lot of the support, advice, and information readers will need.

From the reviewers:

The author endured the painful process of seeing his beloved spouse die.  He shares the experience, and more importantly, lessons he wish he had known about to survive the ordeal.

I am a retired Army officer who attained a BS in business administration and an MBA at New Mexico State University during my service. I also served as the principal training developer and senior instructor on automated and manual administrative systems for the US Army Reserve and National Guard in California and Nevada before becoming the director of operations for a large mainframe computer facility.

After my military retirement I was a founding partner, CEO and senior automated systems architect of DINA, Inc., a twenty-five-person computer system integration firm. I also served as a technical project manager for several large Department of Defense-distributed processing projects.

I am now retired for the second time and currently live either in Las Vegas, Nevada, or at my secondary home in Arlington, Virginia.
