Here’s the set-up:
When Koty Fowler’s husband volunteers her to visit Jamie, a quadruple amputee who lost his limbs in Iraq, neither Koty nor Jamie is happy. Jamie resents being “babysat” every day. Koty resents her lot in life: almost 30, mother of three, and trapped in an unhappy marriage in Granite Creek, a small New Hampshire town. But when Koty and Jamie come together in a sexually-charged situation, everything changes. While Koty continues to explore her relationship with Jamie, her life at home spirals out of control: her sometimes-abusive husband drinks too much, and her middle daughter is on a destructive path, skipping school and getting into fights, while Koty’s other two girls are left to watch. What happens next, however, leaves everyone reeling, and the Fowler family must learn how to move forward, even as they struggle to understand what happened in their own backyard.

Told in multiple viewpoints and spanning across nearly two decades, What Happened in Granite Creek brings readers on a journey of intrigue and unexpected twists while reminding us that nothing is ever what it seems.

Behind the Scenes with Robyn Bradley

What Happened in Granite Creekfeatures a disabled character, Jamie Briggs. Jamie is a quadruple amputee who lost his limbs while serving in Iraq. When I began writing the novel, there was only one surviving quad amputee from the war — that’s how extensive of an injury it is. As of right now, I know of at least two (there may be more), and both are living full lives, according to media reports.I never consciously set out to write a story featuring a disabled character…it just happened. But people within the communities that support and advocate for those with disabilities have been reaching out. It’s great to see people embracing my book, and it’s thrilling to realize the book is playing a role in showing how someone with a disability, even a disability as extensive as Jamie’s, can live a full and happy life.

One community in particular that has shown the story a lot of love is the devotee community. If you’re curious to know what a devotee is, I encourage you to check out my blog post “Serendipity & Devotees,” which provides more details. I was fortunate that someone from the devotee community — a woman who is married to a double-leg amputee — reached out to me before I published What Happened in Granite Creek (she had read my short story upon which the novel is based). This wonderful woman provided much needed insider information on the day-to-day lives of amputees, info that helped me make Jamie’s character all that more authentic.

I’m hoping this tidbit has intrigued you and that you’ll consider downloading What Happened in Granite Creek to your Kindle. Happy reading!

“This is one of those books that I don’t encounter often enough – pulls you in from the very beginning and makes you put everything else aside so you can keep reading! Loved the story, the writing is wonderful, characters are well developed and you really feel their emotions. And I love the way the storytelling changes in the middle of the book from the main character to the point of view of the other characters. Twists and turns, keeps you guessing, didn’t want it to end! Can’t wait for the next book from this author!”

Breaking TWIG

by Deborah Epperson

4.5 stars – 23 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

Set in rural Georgia in the 1960s, BREAKING TWIG is a coming-of-age novel about Becky (Twig) Cooper, a young woman trying to survive the physical and emotional abuse of her mother, Helen, a beautiful, calculating woman who can, with a mere look, send the meanest cur in Sugardale, Georgia running for its life.

Not even Twig’s vivid imagination, keen wit, and dark sense of humor is enough to help her survive the escalating assaults of Helen and a new stepbrother, but help comes from an unexpected source–Frank, her stepfather. Sometimes, having one person who loves and believes in you is all a girl needs to keep hope alive.

Often raw and irreverent and sprinkled with all the Southern flavoring found in a good bowl of chicken and dumplings, BREAKING TWIG, is about finding love where we least expect it, destroying lives with easy lies, and realizing each of us determine our own truth.

Here's the set-up:
At a mausoleum in Cairo's most notorious cemetery, a mercenary receives a package containing a silver test tube suspended in hydraulic stasis.

An investigative reporter tracking rogue biomedical companies is terrified by the appearance of a mummified man outside her Manhattan apartment.

A Bulgarian scientist who dabbles in the occult makes a startling discovery in his underground laboratory.

These seemingly separate events collide when Dominic Grey and Viktor Radek, private investigators of cults, are hired by the CEO of an Egyptian biomedical firm to locate stolen research integral to the company's new life extension product. However, after witnessing the slaughter of a team of scientists by the remnants of a dangerous cult thought long abandoned, Grey and Viktor turn from pursuers to pursued.

From the gleaming corridors of visionary laboratories to the cobblestone alleys of Eastern Europe to a lost oasis in the Sahara, Grey and Viktor must sift through science and myth to uncover the truth behind the Egyptian and his sinister biotech - before that truth kills them.
One Reviewer Notes:
The Egyptian combines mythology and modern scientific research in a fantastic thriller that leaves the reader breathless and on the edge of their seat. Green's writing reminds me of Michael Crichton's works with the mysteries, thrills, and the life-changing scientific discoveries.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Dalma Heyn and Richard Marek’s Love Story for the Rest of Us, A GODSEND: A LOVE STORY FOR GROWN-UPS … Now Just 99 cents on Kindle!

A Godsend: A Love Story for Grown-ups

by Dalma Heyn, Richard Marek

4.9 stars – 10 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Does true love still exist?

Forget the joys and woes of online dating. Can two busy, independent adults living on opposite coasts who don’t use Facebook or Twitter;  who don’t bother with iPads, Match.com or even cell phones;  and who have absolutely no desire for another relationship (ever); fall in love?

This is the crucial question sticking in the quiver of The God of Love, whose career as a matchmaker is on the line unless he can prove he’s still relevant in this world of tweeters, texters and sexters who seem to do nicely without his services. He gets one more chance to work his old magic and get a great man and woman together, or he’s out of a job.

Enter Evan and Eve, whose life experiences make them—particularly her–wary when they meet. Evan is an outdoorsman, car enthusiast and book anthologist who has given up on love; Eve is a former ballerina who now runs her own Vermont maple sugar farm. When an ice storm threatens to destroy Eve’s maple trees, and Evan’s ex-girlfriend, now ill, begs him to take her in, their love implodes.  The God of Love is powerless to intercede. But the soul of a man and the heart of a woman are stronger even than the will of the Gods and the treachery of mortals, and the result is a love story for this day– and for all time.

In A Godsend, acclaimed author and thought-leader Dalma Heyn (The Erotic Silence of the American Wife; Marriage Shock: The Transformation of Women into Wives; and Drama Kings: The Men Who Drive Strong Women Crazy) teams with her husband, writer and editor Richard Marek, to create a love story for all of us who are no longer kids; who are ambivalent but hopeful even when we know how easily an affair can be sabotaged; but who also know that love happens in an instant….at any age.

  • “A grown-up, witty look at love. A terrific read.” — Amanda Silver, co-writer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes
  • “Wonderful writing, wonderful characters, wonderful story. If you’ve ever been in love, don’t miss it!” — Dav1d Lender, e-book bestselling author of Trojan Horse and Vaccine Nation
  • “As fast-paced as a good thriller — and as riveting.” David Morrell, bestselling author of First Blood (Rambo), The Brotherhood of the Rose, etc.
  • “Proof that lovers can dance at any age! I’ve been longing for an adult romance. Here it is.” Linda Gottlieb, Producer, Dirty Dancing

About The Authors

Dalma Heyn is a bestselling author, speaker and former Editor-in-Chief of Health Magazine and Executive Editor of McCall’s. Her books have been translated into 34 languages and have been bestsellers both here and abroad.  Richard Marek spent 40 years in the publishing business, rising from a junior editor at Macmillan to President and Publisher of E.P. Dutton. During that time, he discovered Robert Ludlum, edited four books by James Baldwin, and published Thomas Harris, Peter Straub and Richard Condon, among many others. He is the author of a novel, Works of Genius, which the Los Angeles Times rated one of the ten best books of the year.

Now, as an old man nearing his own demise, Jerry is unsure whether to share his narrative about Rebecca with the world. But when his eight-year-old granddaughter Marnee disappears, Jerry learns she’s been taken by someone close to the killer depicted in the pages hidden in his dresser drawer.

It’s time for Jerry to finish the story—by confronting an evil that threatens Marnee’s life and the lives of everyone around her. And by placing his faith in a higher power to redeem the love for Rebecca in his heart.
