Here's the set-up:
Years after leaving Puerto Rico, the words of La Cienega still resonate in Reyna Lewis’ mind. "It's not what you see that makes you truly happy,” the old blind woman said. “What you see may not always be there. How you feel never has to go away. There's nothing better than that tingly happiness that courses through your body and lands in your face causing your cheeks to rise." Whenever she feels that tingle, she believes it’s La Cienega smiling at her. The first time Scott Kincaid felt La Cienega’s smile was in the sixth grade when he kissed his half black, half Puerto Rican best friend Reyna. Now, as the star quarterback of Charleston Preparatory school in South Carolina, Scott is poised for a spectacular professional career in sports. Between leading Charleston Prep to victory week after week, and pleasing his tyrannical and racist mother, Scott never had time to develop that romantic spark with Reyna. But when his once healthy body is attacked by a debilitating disease, he reevaluates what’s important in life. Just when he finally realizes he’s in love with Reyna, Barack Obama wins the presidential election and throws their small private school into racial turmoil. Now it is up to them to unite a city.
One Reviewer Notes:
I loved this book. I read it in 1 day. I love a book that makes you feel like you are right there. This is the fourth book I've read by Leslie DuBois and I haven't been let down yet. This book was touching, heartfelt and warming. I don't want to spoil it for anyone else. I read a lot of books and I can say this is a book if someone asks me 2 years from know what's it about and how was it I could tell them like it I read it yesterday.

Where have you been, Bev Pettersen? Any lover of the heart-jolting world of horse-racing will love this debut romantic mystery by the super-talented Ms. Pettersen.
– Pamela Callow, author of the Kate Lange thriller series
Here's the set-up:
Racehorse trainer, Kurt MacKinnon, resents being yanked into undercover police work. But when his ex-partner is murdered, Kurt is determined to find the killer and moves his third-string Thoroughbreds to the backwater track where his partner was last seen alive. Julie West, a struggling and dedicated jockey, pins her dreams of an elusive win on the new trainer in town, never suspecting she’s a person of interest—and not because of her riding skills. Kurt didn’t expect his contrary colt to flourish under Julie’s feminine touch nor for his own rusty heart to soften. However, his deceit sucks them both into the cross hairs of a killer, and suddenly much more than their love is in danger. (CONTAINS excerpt of Kindle Bestseller "Color My Horse" by Bev Pettersen)
One Reviewer Notes:
Bev Pettersen brings complex characters and a riveting story to life through engaging dialogue, a well crafted plot, and a budding love story centered around a cracking good murder mystery. Not just for fans of horse racing, (think Dick Francis with romance), Highly recommended!

Here's the set-up:
Pat and Clara have only a vague idea of the hardships awaiting them in the year 1905, as they began their journey to fulfil their dreams. They soon discover that the world is much wider and much harsher beyond the walls of the boarding school where they first met. Yet, they are steadfast and determined. Pat is seventeen, clever; her ambition is limitless and her drive, insatiable. Clara is eighteen, gentle, sensitive, loyal and aristocratic. They will do anything to throw off the conventions that bind them and find a place to build a life together.
One Reviewer Notes:
Pat and Clara seem unlikely soul mates but the companions embark on an amazing adventure that takes them from the south of England to London to France to raise much needed money in fairly unconventional ways for the times. Finally, fuelled by their love for each other, they reach their goal - the flat harsh, land of the Canadian prairies where they make their home and build round them an unlikely but loyal group of friends and neighboughs. So much seems to be against them right from the start but they overcome all the prejudice against women trying to make their way in a tough and macho world... Prairie Companions would make a brilliant and epic film. It's a triumph as a novel - highly recommended.

Library ...I was born unplanned and unwanted like so many post war children. Duty and doing the right thing kept the parents who made us, miserabley together. I quickly found escape in literature, comics and the part work: Knowledge. Library's and the countryside became my church and my priests were Steinbeck, Conrad, Hemingway and Joyce. School was torture for the hyper intelligent boy and Dyslexia was: "You're thick and stupid boy." The troubles erupted and tribal sectarian violence ripped and tore. I stayed untill I could bear it no longer, then left to see the world and wander. I never went back to my dark home city but came south to Cork where I felt easy and only a little foreign. My soul mate found, I searched for release from the agonies of all the wrong jobs and found it in novels. Twelve so far and more bubbling in me waiting. All will be born into the liberation of the net. eBooks.

REVENGE - A Mick Murphy Mystery

Here's the set-up:
When journalist Mick Murphy runs into his love fantasy in a wintry Harvard Yard, he is soon dragged into a web of brutal killings that began in Boston and end in Southern California. Trying to protect his dream girl, a Filipina named Michelle, Murphy runs afoul of a police friend and his nemesis, a Cuban-American cop, as well as Los Angeles County sheriffs, before he is beaten by a gang of Ameriasians and his Jeep is blown up. Holding onto his romantic dream, Murphy faces loss of friends and his life before the finale.
One Reviewer Notes:
REVENGE is a gritty, complex mystery/thriller that builds suspense slowly, although with intermittent bursts of violence, and then explodes in a fiery (literally) climax that includes not only plenty of exciting action but also as shocking a final denouement as I've read in a good long while. Protagonist Liam "Mad Mick" Murphy is an engaging character, a gonzo journalist who has traveled much of the globe and covered his share of conflict… Throughout the novel, Murphy is hopelessly under the spell of the exotic Michelle… What Michelle draws Murphy into is a bizarre chain of shame and family honor threatening to culminate in savage revenge for past abuses.

I wasn't a student who stood out… When I was sixteen, Jack Scanlon, a family friend, helped get me the midnight-to-eight weekend office boy job at the Record-American, Sunday Advertiser, a Hearst Newspaper. Those two-nights a week began my education into the world of journalism and politics. What I learned from the men and women on the Record and Advertiser was more important than anything I learned in college. I was fortunate to enter the world of journalism in its gritty days, when reporters came up the ranks from office boy, to cub, to reporter… Later, I left Boston and moved to Los Angeles, where I worked in TV and freelanced as a photojournalist for years. I served one year on the board of directors of the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles. I also married, fathered twin daughters (Seanan and Chela), and divorced, while in LA. When I got fed up with Hollyweird, I moved to Key West, where I went to work for Bernard Hunt at the daily Key West Citize I have spent another five years as the public information officer for the City of Key West… My mystery novel is fiction, but the city that looms in the background, the bars and restaurants and many of the characters that run through its pages are taken from real life.

From Book 1 of the Desire Series:

A Dystopian world where everyone’s future is planned out for them at age 18…whether it is what a person desires or not. Kama is about to turn 18 and she thinks her Life s Plan will turn out like her boyfriend’s and friend’s as they desired. But when she glimpse a young man who can communicate with her with his thoughts and knows her name…a young man with burning blue eyes and raven hair, who is dressed like no other in her world, she is left to question her Life’s Plan and her destiny. Knowing the truth can destroy everyone…

One Reviewer Notes:

“I fell for the sweet love story in Desire where Kama Johnson gets her Life’s Plan and discovers her longtime love, Liam Seer, is not in her plans. My heart ached for the longing they had for each other in a society that will punish citizens for fighting against their designated plans. Torrid, the incredibly handsome stranger who opens up Kama’s eyes to the truth behind her perfect society, is one of the most sexiest crushes I’ve encountered this year. In Shattered, Kama is forced to fight for her life and the lives of her friends. All around her, Arcadia is crumbling.”

Here's the set-up:
Mischa Dunn's family flees Chile in the wake of the 1973 coup d'etatthat installs a military dictatorship. She settles comfortably in hernewly adopted country, the United States, until one day, an unexplainedseizure in a library signals the beginning of her life with epilepsy. With an engaging balance of humor, insight, and sensitivity Mischa draws the reader into a vivid tale that travels across three continents over 30 years. "A Great Place for a Seizure" is not the only, but it is the first of its kind to be identified as a novelory. novelory [no * ve * lor * y ] noun  (1) A fusion of the terms  "novel"and "short story" to describe a series of linked stories that may stand bythemselves as individual tales and/or come together as a novel, whenread in sequence.  (2) A term, coined by Terry Tracy, to identify aspecies of literature that reflects the 21st century IT-induced mind-set of tight schedules, rapid communication, and the desire to have all things at once.  (3)  a gimmick.
One Reviewer Notes:
Terry Tracy has written a story of incredible bravery...from escaping terrorism to the workings of the inner mind. For the tortured millions in South America, Mischa seeks peace through the tangled bureaucracy of Washington. For the inner turmoil of the epilepsy that imprisons her, she seeks escape. Mischa's story is a death defying leap into the unknown. Always with her seizures, armed and ready to strike. Hers is a lesson of causes and consequences. There is no self-pity, but rather, honest observation and understanding of those who don't know and will never understand the workings of the human psyche. With courage and conviction, Mischa writes of her brutal journey with wisdom and above all compassion. And finally, the "reward" is self revelation.
