Here’s the set-up:

Welcome to Junction, Texas
Population: 626 and steadily decliningOdd things have been happening around town. Hugh McManus went out to one of his grazing pastures and shot the better part of a fine herd before shooting himself. Luke Casteel crawled into a drainage pipe and never came back.
A herd of wild javelina attacked and killed Rod Sawyer. And the thing is, the dying isn’t nearly done.KILLER HEAT IS ONLY THE BEGINNINGJared Riley knows there’s something sinister about the heat. It’s got people acting crazy and it’s got him hearing things. A voice keeps whispering, “It’s gonna get mighty hot. Yes sir we like our meatloaf and taters well done, served up pipin’ hot.” Convinced the heat is tracking them, picking them off one by one he sets off to find help. Trouble is, the people who have the answers are more dangerous than the heat.Driven by strong characters and a twisting plot, The Drought delves into the supernatural world where ghosts roam the landscape and a voodoo curse floats on the wind.

One Reviewer Notes

“The Drought was fast paced and gripped me from the very first chapter. Patricia Fulton has a Stephen King style of writing that moves you between two protagonists, one in a town in Texas and one in Louisiana. You know that somehow these two worlds will collide but the twists and turns that bring them together will keep you reading late into the night.” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

Reviews

“”The Healing Shard” was an excellent read with sharp dialogue and wonderful prose. The opening prologue grabs pulls you in filling you with dread and mystery of what is to come. “The healing shard ended up as delightful escapist fun that can truly be enjoyed by all ages!” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

“I finished reading this book a few nights ago. Normally it takes me several weeks to finish a book this long, but I really, genuinely couldn’t put this down! At first I thought this was going to be another tired “cash in on Harry Potter” type story (the hero is a young boy), but by the fourth chapter I could see this was something unique. There are so many threads to this story and I couldn’t see how it was all going to come together. But it did, and in ways I couldn’t have dreamed of. The climax had me up until 2 in the morning to see what happened and I am waiting so impatiently for the sequel now!” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

About The Author

My name’s Tim Kearsley and I was born in the county of Northamptonshire, England in February, 1955.

I knew that I had a book in me a long time ago, but, like many I suppose, it took me a long time to finally take the plunge and actually commit fingers to the keyboard. The result, after several years’ planning and a year or so writing, was “The Healing Shard”.

I went down the conventional route to get “The Healing Shard” published, and had interest from several literary agents, which culminated in trekking off to London to meet one of them. But after two years of emails backwards and forwards, and edits and suggestions and changing the book this way and that, I got – to be blunt about it – fed up!

The manuscript languished on my hard drive for a couple of years after that and I contented myself with writing short stories.

Then a friend told me that she had self-published her book. I looked into it and decided I’d give it a shot. And so here it is, on Amazon – “The Healing Shard”!

I hope you enjoy it. Let me know if you do, and even (surely not!) if you don’t!

Apart from writing, I spend time walking, marvelling at the night sky and helping where I can with the conservation of this jewel of a planet we call Earth.

I live in Northamptonshire still, with my partner of 18 years, Jill.

Chloe is a tough, no-nonsense charter boat captain involved in a smuggling operation with the very man who framed her father. Here’s the set-up:

Sisters are meant to always be there for each other, or are they? In the glare of reality, clashing views and acts of betrayal can work to form unbridgeable gaps, and the fabric of sisterly love must be delicately rewoven from whole cloth. Reel Life charts the story of redheaded sisters Betty and Jamie, who must call upon the past to forge a new and meaningful connection for the future. With iconic moments of contemporary cinema driving the narrative thread, this absorbing work will cut straight to the heart and reveal the intricate, complex emotions that come together to form a family. Exploring themes of motherhood, body image, ambition and love, this tender, deeply affecting tale of two sisters offers a poignant close-up of this most intimate of relationships, which can both haunt and heal. Surging with drama that is interlaced with subtle irony, Reel Life illuminates how, sometimes, escaping reality can be the clearest path to emotional truth.

Reviews

“A realistic, moving chronicle of the evolving relationship between sisters.” – Kirkus Reviews

“Surprising twists add to the drama, as infidelity and betrayal re-occur like a generational curse. But, that’s real life, and ultimately, Reel Life turns out to be interesting, just like in the movies.” – San Francisco Book Review

“This novel took me a while to finish, not because it was slow or boring in the least, but the subtle nuancing made me really want to take my time and make sure I didn’t miss anything. The characters were fascinating enigmas throughout…Reel Life was a thoroughly compelling tale.” – Bellas Novella

Broken Angels (Eve of Light, Book 1)

by Harambee Grey-Sun

A speculative thriller woven with cosmic Lovecraftian weirdness, Broken Angels is the first book in a Metaphysical Fantasy series entitled Eve of Light.  Metaphysical Fantasy is a subgenre that mixes action & adventure with philosophy & theology.  Think Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, but with an urban fantasy setting and geared toward mature readers (age 16 and older).

Here’s the set-up from Kirkus Reviews:

In a near future when drug addiction and gangs push society closer to anarchy, the White-Fire Virus afflicts a small but important percentage. The STD shortens lifespans, distorts the mind and floods the body with bizarre, possibly sentient, photosensitive parasites. Those able to control the microbes via meds, their own will and light-tight full-body suits can develop amazing abilities, including shape-shifting and light bending (i.e. invisibility, heat rays and such). Other victims literally melt, and some go mad and turn into psychotic criminals. Robert and Darryl are two young virus-carriers who have joined an elite covert-ops squad, ostensibly searching for missing kids but more often hunting viral villains. But who are the do-gooders and who are the insane terrorists or pawns? Despite oft-referenced sexual elements, erotic content is hardly present; it’s the metaphysics—poetic, somewhat punny wordplay about the nature of God, art and Creation—that get full-frontal exposure. This title may even find a readership in religious fantasy literature, albeit of a pretty far-out variety. Avoiding the comic-book trap, this cross-dimensional thriller should give broad-minded readers a heady brew of thought and superpowered action.

Here’s the set-up:

When there were still people around to talk to, I would introduce myself as a drinker with a writing problem. It sounded witty at the time, and certainly got a smile once in a while from the ladies. None of that matters now. There are no people left to read my books, and nobody left to listen to my attempts at wit.

Now it’s just me, sitting in my house on the hill, watching the undead rampage through what we humans once called our world. I sometimes wonder why I still live when those much younger, stronger, smarter and fitter than me perished. Maybe it’s just dumb luck. But maybe I am being left alive for a purpose. Nobody may have cared much for my novel, but maybe this is what I was meant to write. Maybe this is what I was meant to be.

The chronicler of the undead.

This is my story.

About The Author

Mainak Dhar is a cubicle dweller by day and author by night. His first `published’ work was a stapled collection of Maths solutions and poems (he figured nobody would pay for his poems alone) he sold to his classmates in Grade 7, and spent the proceeds on ice cream and comics. Mainak was a bestselling author in his native India with titles published by major houses like Penguin and Random House and with one of his novels (Herogiri) being made into a major motion picture. In early 2011, he began to use Amazon to reach international readers through his ebooks and became one of the leading independent authors in the world with more than 100,000 books sold in his first year. He has thirteen books to his credit including the bestselling Alice in Deadland trilogy. Learn more about him and contact him at mainakdhar.com.
