Here’s the set-up:

Navajo Witchery. Human Treachery.
Social worker Jordan Bia finds a child who escaped her captors and a life in the sex trade, but four other girls from her small Mexican village were not so lucky. Smugglers hide their human cargo in the hoodoos of a remote canyon on the reservation—a place the Navajo shun, fearful of the witches who practice their black rituals and feast on the dark energy of evil. Mysterious rites, omens of death, and bodies litter the canyon.
When she meets Navajo police officer Sam Tohee, sparks fly fueled by the danger of hunting men who buy and sell little girls. Techno savvy Jordan plots to trap the smugglers and free the rest of the children, but unless she and Sam can find the power to defeat the witches she may not live long enough to save the girls.

Reviews:

I loved this second installment of The Nation series. I think that the premise of this book is fantastic, there’s so much to draw you in, and the book is so much more than your typical romance. It has intrigue, mystery, Navajo culture and tradition, and of course the romance. Jordan was a strong heroine, she had principles and worked hard in her job as a Navajo CPS investigator. She cared about her cases and went to the limit to solve them. Sam was a cop with a past he was trying to forget and future he was trying to build.

Situated in the Navajo Nation, Desert Heat, once again leads us into a world steeped in tradition and beauty. P. H. Turner’s book envelopes the reader in suspense, witches, heat, desire and love as Sam and Jordan work to solve a child trafficking problem on the reservation. The book is fast paced and holds your attention as the plot develops. The return of Taylor and Trace from the previous Nation book is a pleasant surprise and adds to the to the story line. I appreciate the authors’ tremendous amount of research evident in the development of the background material. I will definitely read Turner’s next book and look forward to being similarly entertained.
