Finding a corpse in the trunk of your cab is a rotten way to start the day, but things go straight downhill from there for Bo Forrester in our Kindle eBook of the Day, Nancy Holzner’s PEACE, LOVE, AND MURDER – 10 straight rave reviews and just 99 cents on Kindle!

Here’s the set-up for Nancy Holzner’s PEACE, LOVE, AND MURDER – 10 straight rave reviews and just 99 cents on Kindle:

Finding a corpse in the trunk of your cab is a rotten way to start the day. For Bo Forrester, things go straight downhill from there. The cops are asking a hell of a lot of questions. The murder weapon turns up too close for comfort. And the attractive woman giving him the eye turns out to be Trudy Hauser, a cute-but-crazy deputy dead set on arresting him for murder.

Bo returned to Rhodes, an upstate New York college town, hoping to reconcile with his parents, gentle hippies who couldn’t accept his decision to join the Army at eighteen. Twenty years later, the commune where he grew up is a subdivision and his parents are long gone. Pondering his next move, Bo takes a job driving a cab. And he has no clue how the bullet-riddled body of art philanthropist Fred Davies ended up in the trunk.

Now, he can’t turn around without bumping into Trudy—it’s not her case, but that’s not slowing her down. The local cops, suspecting robbery as the motive, are right behind her. When Davies’ beautiful widow asks Bo for help, he can’t say no. Starting his own investigation, he plunges into a world of privilege, corruption, and high-stakes greed. A lot of people had reason to want Davies dead: a flirtatious art history professor with a taste for booze and men; her insanely jealous, ex-felon husband; the business partner with a secret addiction; and an avant-garde artist who proclaims that murder is the ultimate art form.

As the body count escalates, Bo must combine the skills he learned as a soldier with the values he grew up with on the commune to flush out a vicious murderer—if he manages to stay alive that long.

From the reviewers:

A most enjoyable mystery! The story elements are original and intriguing, combining hippies, communes, cab drivers and murder. It is an enjoyable story with interesting characters that are neither stereotypic nor predictable. The storyline keeps both the action and the suspense going, and it held my interest all the way through. — Glinda Harrison

I don’t want to give anything away about this mystery. Suffice it to say you are going to meet Bo Forrester and his world filled with quirky cabbie rides, dead bodies in the trunk, obsessed officers of the law, and that’s just to start with. The writing draws you in and keeps you there. – Peacedance

Wonderfully developed characters and a mystery that will keep you guessing. — B. Stogner

What grabbed me right off was the voice. What held me were the characters. Peace, Love & Murder is written from the lead character’s first-person perspective. The writing is great, and Bo is such a likeable character, it made for a fun read. — Keith Pyeatt

Nancy Holzner grew up in western Massachusetts with her nose stuck in a book. This meant that she tended to walk into things, wore glasses before she was out of elementary school, and forced her parents to institute a “no reading at the dinner table” rule. It was probably inevitable that she majored in English in college and then, because there were still a lot of books she wanted to read, continued her studies long enough to earn a masters degree and a PhD.

She began her career as a medievalist, then jumped off the tenure track to try some other things. Besides teaching English and philosophy, shes worked as a technical writer, freelance editor and instructional designer, college admissions counselor, and corporate trainer.

Nancy lives in upstate New York with her husband Steve, where they both work from home without getting on each others nerves. She enjoys visiting local wineries and listening obsessively to opera. There are still a lot of books she wants to read.

From the reviewers:

…a superbly haunting story. The mood is darkly gothic in this well-constructed tale that literally pulses from the mechanizations of an evil force who invades without compassion or pity. It has my highest recommendation. — L. Jenkins

I have never read a book so fast. I was captured with the first chapter and it held my undivided attention until the very last sentence. Like many of T. Lynne Tolles’ other books, it is sprinkled with a variety of characters. You have vampires, werewolves, witches, vampire witches, and oh yeah, a few humans as well. –kshayewhite

“Only men have dreams such as this, not girls. Not the daughter of a slave.” So begins an adventure that will span eight decades across two continents and dozens of historical figures. From swashbuckling pirates on the high seas to the slave traders of Mexico, to the genocidal wars of North America, Pearson Moore engages from the very first page, using a vibrant prose style that captivates the imagination, and the heart.Twelve years of intensive research went into building the rich historical background for Cartier’s Ring, including dozens of trips to Québec, Montréal, Upstate New York, and Midland, Ontario. But it is the emotional depth of Myeerah’s story that brings the novel to life. You will feel her pain as she is beaten and enslaved, touch her tear-streaked face as she witnesses the ritual torture and execution of her brother, share in her joy as she overcomes deprivation and starvation, and stand up and cheer when she vanquishes her enemies.Using rarely-deployed but highly effective narrative devices, Moore immerses you in a strange world that is attractive in its humanity and intriguing in its statements about our common heritage and destiny. Kindle eBook of the Day: Eileen Cruz Coleman’s RUMPEL – 4.7 Stars and Just 99 Cents on Kindle! Here’s a free sample of this dark and quirky retelling of the Brothers Grimm tale!

Eileen Cruz Coleman’s RUMPEL has given new life to the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. In Ms. Coleman’s version the devious Rumpelstiltskin still strikes a deal with a poor miller: a magic spinning wheel that turns straw into gold in exchange for his unsuspecting daughter’s first born. But from royalty and common folk to spirits, trolls, witches, and angels, there’s so much more to the tale this author weaves, one that in many ways parallels the injustice of modern society–misuse of power, forbidden romance, unyielding discrimination, and poverty at its worse. RUMPEL is a must read for anyone who enjoys a thought-provoking escape into Old World fantasy.”

— Loretta Giacolletto

Here’s the set-up for Eileen Cruz Coleman’s Rumpel, 4.7 stars and just 99 Cents on Kindle:

Why did Rumpelstiltskin want a baby? What was he going to do with it once he got it? What was his childhood like? What was his world like? Who were the people in his life? How could he spin straw into gold?Rumpel is the dark and quirky retelling of the Brothers Grimm Rumpelstiltskin which answers all of these questions and more.

While Rumpelstiltskin forged ahead with his plan, a battle between his world and another world was brewing, and a forbidden romance between a prince and a common girl was being tested. In the end, the spinning wheel will determine the fates of everyone.

When a ship carrying sick and desperate people from the Kingdom of Niaps arrives on the island of Rodavlas in search of a lost gold-spinning wheel which the Niapsons believe rightfully belongs to them and on which their very existence depends, the island inhabitants–spirits, trolls, mermaids, fallen angels and humans–are thrust into a course of events during which some will become allies and others will turn against their own.

And Elizabeth Miller must accept her connection to the newcomers and use her secret skill to defend her unborn child from a vengeful troll, Rumpel, who blames her and her father Franz Miller, for the deaths of his son and wife.

Bonus Material:

Rumpel now includes an excerpt from Eileen Cruz Coleman’s upcoming novel, Salted Earth, a post-apocalyptic, steampunkish, Young Adult retelling of the Brothers Grimm Godfather Death.

From the reviewers:

Almost from the beginning, I was on the edge of my seat. While I was silently willing the protagonist Michael to steal everything from the jerk of the valet customer, I was shocked by the turns in the first chapters. I never expected that suspense to be maintained!  — Michelle V.

This book was interesting from the very beginning and had a way of hooking you in. The characters were rich with personality. The story was very good with hardly a dull moment. Michael Dane is a very lovable character for any reader, its amazing how the author doesn’t make the change in him obvious but does it with style and grace.  — Zaq

I enjoyed this book greatly, it was an entertaining and quick read that at times had me laughing outright. Sure, it has some choppy spots. But all in all it was great fun.  — K

I enjoyed the author’s accurate depiction of the region where I currently reside. He captured the scenery and the quirks of the residents quite accurately. The dependence upon the deaf community that sprung up around his parents’ home and the deaf school was a unique element. Yet it was carried out with tact and balance.  — Kristi Scheuler

David Lee Martin went to school to become a sign language interpreter in the 1980s. Despite not pursuing interpreting for a living, he remained fascinated with the deaf community and its lack of representation in the fiction world.

Many years and many adventures later, David decided to write a mystery series that incorporated both the deaf and children of deaf adults.

Interpreter for the Dead is the first book in the Michael Dane Mystery Series.

Here’s the set-up for Terrence O’Brien’s The Templar Concordat, 4.9 stars from 9 reviewers and just $2.99 On Kindle:

When the truth is your greatest danger, and the enemy knows the truth, things can only go downhill when the enemy finally gets the proof. And that’s the proof the Hashashin get when they steal what the Vatican doesn’t even know it has.

Now the infallible decrees of two Twelfth Century popes and three kings, stolen by the Hashashin, threaten to catapult the bigotry, bias, and religious blood baths of the Third Crusade straight into the Twenty-First Century.

When Templars Sean Callahan and Marie Curtis are drawn into the mess, they face an ancient enemy that has already nearly won the battle, a newly elected Mexican pope being undermined by entrenched Vatican powers, world class scholars who will sell their prestige to the highest bidder, and terrorists lingering over lattes in sidewalk cafes.

Moving from Rome to London, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, Callahan and Curtis are desperate to find some way to stem the success the Hashashin are having enlisting the majority of moderate Muslims in their Jihad.

From the reviewers:

Could hardly put it down for 2 days. Highly recommended. –CWS

Along the lines of The DaVinci Code and Steve Berry’s books, Templar Concordat is the perfect mix of history and action. The history sets the stage in the beginning of the book, then the action takes over and never stops. –Common Sense Colorado
