Our Kindle eBook of the Day is an archetypal American story of self-discovery: Terry Persun’s historical novel SWEET SONG – 4.6 stars on 11 out of 12 rave reviews, just $2.99 on Kindle!

An archetypal American story of self-discovery, set against the turmoil of post – Civil War America, Sweet Song tells the story of the mixed race son of a white landowner and a black house servant. Leon, raised black but an outcast from both cultures, finds himself suddenly on his own — and passing for white.
Wrestling with a divided heritage in a world where honesty, even with friends, might prove fatal, he falls in with dispossessed thieves, mill workers, saloon keepers, musicians, businessmen, thugs, freedom loving idealists and malevolent racists — a vivid panorama from America’s past. This tender, raw, provocative novel speaks from the heart about where we’ve come from and who we are.
From the reviewers:

  • If you like historical fiction in general, and Civil War-era stories in particular, this book deserves a place in your library. — Fermey
  • A nice balance of drama, tension, and soul searching.  T. Stevens
  • Terry Persun’s “Sweet Song” is a wonderful tale of a young man’s journey to discover his true self. Persun does a masterful job of evoking mood and tone through the unique voice of his main character. With simple spelling and syntax changes, Persun allows the reader access to Leon’s inner most feelings – revealing more about him than even the character is aware! A quick read, not only because it’s well written, but because I didn’t want to put it down! –Seattle Dreamer
  • A timeless historical novel.  Sweet Song is a historical novel of a Civil War mulatto trying to escape a cesspool of a past that never ceases to haunt him. The timeless theme raises universal issues of censoring our past when dealing with others as well as our inner selves.   –  Gerald Braude
  • Excellent story, couldn’t put it down.  You know those books that completely transport you to a different time and place – completely losing yourself in the story? This is that kind of book.  — “glitterlips”
  • What a GREAT book. It grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. The main character is so well developed I was disappointed when I had finished, feeling I was leaving a friend behind. I cannot wait for what comes next from Terry.   –  Conner L. Daily

In today’s Kindle eBook of the Day, Kathryn Shay tackles passion, romance, a sexual predator, infidelity and the enduring love of two characters whose marriage withstands the unthinkable – A PRICE WORTH PAYING – Just $3.99 on Kindle!

Nick and Callie Muscato have been lovers since high school. They married at eighteen and Callie gave up Vassar to go on the road with Nick as he builds his major league baseball career. Once he becomes a superstar, their perfect life is marred by their inability to have children. And then a miracle happens and they adopt twin boys.

Both are happy until Nick gets hurt and is demoted to the minors. Instead of going with him, Callie takes the twins and returns to their home town to teach at the high school they both attended. Hers and Nick’s long distance relationship is strained, in part due to Callie’s best friend and former suitor in high school. Nick despises him and hates that Callie is around him again.

Eventually Nick is forced to give up his baseball career, gets his college degree and when the story opens, both he and Callie are teaching at their Alma Mater. Then tragedy strikes them with two major blows: Callie confesses she’s pregnant with another man’s child and, only an hour later, Nick is accused of sexual misconduct with a female student; he is suspended from teaching until hearings can be held.

Though this stress might split up a lesser couple, Nick and Callie fight the accusation and try to keep their marriage together.

This major original novel is vintage Kathryn Shay. Tackling passion, romance, a sexual predator, infidelity and the enduring love of two characters whose marriage withstands the unthinkable, she proves again why reviewers say she has “earned a well deserved place among the top romance authors.”

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first ‘romance,’ a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists – and with one hardheaded editor in particular.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women’s college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who’d attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, “I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that.”

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she’d again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-two books for Harlequin, ten mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

In testament to her skill, the author has had a one of her books serialized in the December 2003 COSMOPOLITAN magazine and has been quoted in PEOPLE and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. She has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.
Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. “My life is very full,” she reports, “but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams.”

Here’s the set-up for Bull Street, 4.7 Stars, just 99 Cents On Kindle by David Lender, “The Grisham of Wall Street:”

Bull Street is the story of Richard Blum, a naïve, young Wall Streeter who gives a jaded billionaire the chance for redemption, as they team up to bring down an insider trading ring before they wind up in jail or dead. An excerpt from Vaccine Nation, David Lender’s upcoming thriller, follows the text of Bull Street.

From the Reviewers:

…his best yet. [Lender] is in his element with stories of Wall Street. The Gravy Train painted that world in colorful and realistic tones. Bull Street goes yet a step further in delving deep into this world of shady characters, ambiguous loyalties and double-crosses. –Cruiseman

Bull Street has characters and plot turns that you think are stranger than fiction. Then you think about Wall Street (I’ve been there) and realize you can’t make this stuff up because it happens. — Christian Schiller. Managing Director, Cascadia Capital, LLC

Bull Street is another winner from Lender, an even more accurate picture of Wall Street than his last, and this one a story told against the backdrop of the Financial Crisis.– Rohit Kapur

Richard Blum is John Grisham’s Mitch McDeere of The Firm who’s landed in an alternate reality at Walker & Co. on Wall Street. And instead of the mob laundering money, the top guys at this Firm are coining it, through an insider trading ring. — Penmark

David Lender is the author of the bestselling thrillers, Trojan Horse and The Gravy Train. He writes thrillers set in the financial sector based on his over 25-year career as a Wall Street investment banker. David draws on an insider’s knowledge from his career in mergers and acquisitions with Merrill Lynch, Rothschild and Bank of America for the international settings, obsessively driven personalities and real-world financial intrigues of his novels.

His characters range from David Baldacci-like corporate power brokers to Elmore Leonard-esque misfits and scam artists. His plots reveal the egos and ruthlessness that motivate the players in the financial sector, as well as the inner workings of the most powerful of our financial institutions.

David began writing novels over ten years ago. At one point a friend sent his first novel to a prominent New York literary agent, whose reaction was, “Not bad for somebody who doesn’t know what he’s doing yet.” She introduced David to a seasoned thriller editor and publisher who had edited Robert Ludlum’s first nine thrillers; David spent the next 18 months working with him to learn his craft. When dreams collide and passion storms, it’s no wonder everybody’s All Keyed Up!

A voracious book fan since first learning to read, I fell in love with romance novels while pursuing my B.A. degree in English decades ago.

A professional writer since someone first paid me to write radio commercials while I was still in college, I always dreamed of writing a book someday. Eventually, I realized that a book wouldn’t spring fully written from my brain so I’d better get cracking.

All Keyed Up, a humorous contemporary romance set at a dolphin facility in the Florida Keys with a determined researcher and a stubborn DEA agent, is my debut novel, originally published in print format a few years ago.

Key of Sea, published a year later, proves that an ex-trophy wife can create a new life for herself, find love again with a younger man, and successfully battle land crabs.

I updated both of my books prior to releasing them electronically. I’m hard at work on a new project, which will also be set in the Florida Keys – the beautiful, fun, slightly abnormal island chain that I call home.

I love to hear from readers. Please email me at mary@mary-stella.com.
