Here’s the set-up:

She needs to find an assassin before he finds her, but it’s already too late.

Two Villeleian monarchs are dead, and the last living heir is a frightened 14-year-old girl.

A desperate refugee population from famine-stricken Nandala is growing within Villeleia’s borders.

Jiandra Stovy isn’t planning on getting involved–she just wants to keep her parents’ farm going so she can afford to raise her younger siblings. But then she finds a mysterious, magical blue stone on the same day a Nandalan arrow narrowly misses the new queen in the castle courtyard. And when a vicious witchhunt ensues for the foreign assassin, sweeping up innocent, starving women and children in its wake, Jiandra has no choice but to turn to the Old Gods for help.

Their response is clear: Take the Omaja Stone, use its powers, and find the Nandal assassin.

Jiandra sets out with two of the queen’s guards to hunt the killer, trusting that the Knowing power of the Omaja Stone will help her recognize him. But when a tall, muscular Nandal appears out of nowhere to help her rescue a group of drowning Nandal refugees, she’s a little too distracted by his exotic silvery eyes to notice he’s been tracking her with dangerous intentions. He seems nothing less than a hero sent to her from the Old Gods, appearing when she needed him most.

But he isn’t traveling alone.

Yajna and Yavi are identical twin brothers, the highest trained killers in Nandala’s Black Armies. Yajna specializes in archery while his brother is an expert with dual swords, and they’ve been sent on an urgent mission to assassinate Villeleia’s inexperienced queen and start a war. When they run into a powerful sorceress who is also looking to get rid of the young queen, the three of them join forces to take control of prosperous Villeleia together.

Unfortunately, a common farm girl and her magical stone stand in their way, and she’s headed straight for them with her guards. The twins have no choice but to try to intercept her, kill her, and take the stone. But Yajna starts to have second thoughts about that plan as he watches Jiandra pull a group of drowning Nandalan prisoners from a river, and helps get them–and her–to safety in the woods. Every minute he spends in the beautiful Villeleian girl’s company makes it harder and harder to follow through on his mission. He’s a wanted man, and Jiandra has only to use the Knowing power of the stone around her neck to recognize it. He knows he should kill her and take the stone before that happens, but it’s difficult to contemplate murdering the one person in Villeleia who’s trying to alleviate the suffering of his people.

Especially when she feels like pure heaven in his arms.

“Jasso really knows how to set a scene – Kiss of the Assassin flows like a movie, but it’s hardly thin in description. The prose is a completely immersive experience, as Jasso deftly paints scene and character, so the sights and smells – and emotion – come through vividly. A common romance trope is for the two protagonists to hate each other at first, but in this scenario, the stakes are truly high, and the shifting POV’s give intriguing detail about each person’s perspective. Though Kiss of the Assassin is at core a romance and hits those notes satisfyingly, it doesn’t do so at the expense of story or character. Coupled with her first novel, Caribbean Jewel, Jayla Jasso is definitely a new romance writer to watch.” – Lysa Grant, SelfPublishingReview.com, 5 stars

Here’s the set-up:

Look what the Chihuahua dragged in.

When Karly wanders outside her mountain cabin into the snowstorm to see why her dog is going nuts, she’s expecting an injured animal, not a muscular mammoth of a man who’s unconscious and about to freeze to death if she doesn’t drag him inside and try to tend his wounds. He’s wearing only a few pieces of fur-and-leather armor—cosplayer or insane mountain man?—and his wild hair and beard haven’t seen a pair of scissors in a year or more. But when he wakes up and opens those amber-hazel eyes, Karly’s too caught off guard to protest his lack of appropriate clothing.

He doesn’t speak English, so Karly uses her skills as a foreign language teacher (and a lot of charades) to teach him. She needs to figure out who he is, why he’s dressed like a Skyrim character, what happened to him, and where he belongs so she can get him home.

That plan goes awry when his story starts coming out in broken English, and he claims to be a Visigoth from the year 483. Other than that little glitch, he doesn’t seem crazy, so Karly’s not sure whether to take him to the mental hospital or the homeless shelter. Or, just keep him around and drool over his hunky physique, his sweet smile, and his lion’s mane of hair. Plus, when her druggie ex-husband shows up high and hell-bent on manhandling Karly, it comes in handy to have a 6 foot 6 barbarian around to bounce him right on back to his Hummer with a bloody nose.

Valamir is condemned to execution, and the dungeon guards are on their way to his cell. So when his captor’s wife offers to use her Druidic powers to save his life in exchange for his undying pledge of love and loyalty, he sees no other way out. A quick blood-pact and hasty incantation later, he finds himself transported out of prison, trudging down a mountain in a blizzard and stumbling into the back yard of the most lovely guardian angel Wodin could have ever sent him. Karly is beautiful, smart, efficient, and caring—everything Valamir’s ever wanted in a woman. Only problem is, she suspects he’s either lying or delusional when he tells her where he’s from, a huge barrier to winning her trust and love. He has to find a way to prove himself to Karly while protecting her from her ex-husband and praying the Druidic priestess doesn’t make good on her promise to call him back to her side forever.

Here’s the set-up:

Sometimes a girl has to take what she can get.

When Jolie’s cloaked midnight rescuer ends up being the sexiest Spanish captain this end of the Caribbean, she figures a long ocean voyage to freedom on his brigantine might not be the worst thing that could have happened to a proper Englishwoman. Especially one who’s just been caught committing a crime and needs an escape route, fast.
Captain Gabriel Marcano’s not searching for love on Crab Island–he’s looking for Spain’s beloved national treasure, the Corazón de Isabela. So when he shows up back at his brigantine with a half-drowned English beauty instead of the famous gold nugget, he has some explaining to do. His only intention is the girl’s safe passage to Europe, he informs his crew, and her presence will have no effect whatsoever on his command of the ship.
All lies, Marcano admits to himself, especially when the fair-skinned wench stares at him with those innocent whisky-colored eyes…truth is, living in such close quarters with his little damsel in distress causes him far more trouble than he’d planned. And things only go from bad to worse when her violent past catches up with them, threatening to tear them apart forever.
“Simply put, the chemistry between Marcano and Jolie works seamlessly, making for delicious reading… Fans of action-packed romance novels about life on the high seas won’t be disappointed.” 4½ Stars – SPR
