“A twisting, intense psychological thriller.”–Bestselling author Scott Nicholson, Liquid Fear
Even a genius can be played for a pawn by a cunning and deadly manipulator. Lauren James is a former psychiatrist, still reeling from her husband’s suicide and the subsequent miscarriage that swept away her tidy life the year before. On the anniversary of his death, she opens what she hopes to be a “Welcome to Mensa” envelope and pulls out a threatening puzzle along with the identical suicide note she had burned the previous year. Unraveling the twisted clues, Lauren embarks on a harrowing journey drawn in by a child’s neglected grave, a professor from the island of St. Croix, and a U.S. Supreme Court nominee. After purchasing the older edition, I was just in time to grab the 2012 version ... on Christmas Day. This is perfect for newbies like myself who just bought their first kindles. I own the kindle fire and was thinking of purchasing the kindle touch to carry to work, because it is lighter in weight, and I might be able to carry it in the side pocket of my scrub pants. This book was great in explaining the differences among the various kindles and what they can and can not do. Still on the fence about purchasing the kindle touch, but thanks to this book, I will not be going into it blind. Oh and don't forget the web links to various sites for free book lists. Great book!

Former combat pilot Jake Bronson believed the worst was behind him. But when a sophisticated terrorist cell shows up in his home town seeking revenge, he’s drawn into a conflict that threatens the heart and soul of every mother in America.

The bonds of love and loyalty are tested as Jake and his friends are swept into a deadly chase that takes them from the beaches of California, to the depths of the world’s longest underground river, and finally to the remote jungles of the Venezuelan rain forest—where Jake discovers that it will take far more than his enhanced abilities to prevent what is coming.

From the reviewers:

“The Enemy of My Enemy” (Brainrush II) made me stay until 3:00 am to finish it! Every time the story seemed to reach a culmination and everything settled down, there was yet another surprise. It is a true roller coaster.   –  Martisima

Adrenaline rush!  I have to admit a teensy part of me was worried that BRAINRUSH II wouldn’t be as good, as BRAINRUSH, the first book. Well folks, worry NO MORE! Grab a parachute, floatation device, helmet, plenty of weapons, flashlight, water and MREs, for this action-packed, adrenaline laced trip.  –  Jillion “Jill”

A truely amazing storyline, this is the second time Mr. Bard Has kept me up till 4am on a weekday, lol. If you want to be on the edge of your seat, miss a few meals, not sleep for a day, then this book is for you!! All of the characters are either extremely loveable or you wish you could jump in the book and strangle them yourself.  –  slapjack1972

Scorpio Rising (The Scorpio Series)

Here’s the set-up:

Set in New York and Paris amid the glamorous and competitive worlds of art and real estate, Scorpio Rising takes the reader from the late 1940s to the 1960s through the tumultuous lives of its heroes.

There is Alex Ivanov, the son of a Russian immigrant and part-time prostitute. He yearns to escape his sordid life and achieve fame and fortune. His dreams of becoming a world-class builder are met with countless obstacles, yet he perseveres in the hope of someday receiving the recognition he craves.

Half a world away, Brigitte Dartois is an abused teenager who runs into the arms of a benefactor with an agenda all his own. When she finds out that her boss has an ulterior motive, she flees again, determined to earn her living through her art. This career brings her fame, but also the unwanted attention of her early abuser.

Monique Domovitch’s debut novel, Scorpio Rising, is a compelling tale filled with finely etched characters and a superb understanding of the power of ambition. Scorpio Rising promises to resonate with all who once had a dream.

From the reviewers:

I loved the building up of the characters Alex and Brigitte. The whole of the story is giving the reader a detailed look at who the characters are and what drives them to do what they do. I loved knowing the characters so well. The story built to such a point that it was inevitable that the two main characters, Alex and Brigitte would meet and come together. Alex and Brigitte each had a drive to be more than what life was handing them. On separate life journeys they moved forward against all odds to finally come to the same point. Great story. Loved every minute of it. –Goodreads

The author has a wonderful way of weaving a story – particularly in the way she meticulously paints little details that give such colour and presence to the characters that they truly come alive. –Kindle review

I found this book quite enticing and very difficult to put down. In fact I read it in one morning. The lead characters Brigitte and Alex are quite captivating and work well together. Domovitch is a master of characterization, even developing the cast of secondary characters. This would make a great movie. This plot has it all drama dealing with life in general, greed, and deception. This book plays on the readers emotions, with an ending that leaves the reader ready to jump into the sequel. If you enjoy a good drama, this is the book for you.  – Anne B. for Readers Review

Kindle Daily Deal: The Handmaid’s Tale

A radical and brilliant departure for Margaret Atwood, this story is told with such power that the reader will be unable to forget its images and its forecast. Set in the near future, it describes life in what was once the United States, now called the Republic of Gilead, a monotheocracy that has reacted to social unrest by reverting to a society of repressive intolerance.

Meet Imogen Rose

Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.

For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.

Portal, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.

The warm reception Portal received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. Book two (Equilibrium) and book three (Quantum) are now available. Book four, Momentum, will be available this summer. Faustine is Imogen’s first book in her new series, the Bonfire Chronicles.

Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah.
