Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Colleen Collins’ THE ZEN MAN, just 99 Cents on Kindle, with 4.3 Stars on 10 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Colleen Collins’ The Zen Man, just 99 Cents on Kindle:

Just as washed-up criminal defense attorney, life-long Deadhead (nickname “The Zen Man”), and current PI Rick Levine decides to get relicensed as a lawyer, he’s charged with killing one and ends up in the slammer with a half-mil bail.

Released on bond, Rick and his girlfriend Laura have 30 days to find the real killer. In the course of their investigations, they dig for dirt among Denver’s shady legal backrooms to its tony corporate centers. Dodging bullets, a kidnapping, trumped-up charges and the FBI’s unwanted intervention, Rick and Laura continue tracking key suspects who have motive…eventually learning that true redemption begins at home.

From the reviewers:

“Move over Sam Spade, Nick and Nora; make room for a Denver who-dun-it, Colleen Collins’s The Zen Man. Brilliant and fast-paced writing. I couldn’t put it down.”  —  Donnell Ann Bell,  Award-Winning Author of The Past Came Hunting

“Not only do the pages fly by with the action and plot twists, but the characters will keep you guessing their next move as well. I was thoroughly entertained and can’t wait to read the next installment of this fabulous gumshoe novel!” — Wendy Hines, Minding Spot book reviews

“I loved every single word of The Zen Man!” — Delores Fossen, USA Today Best-selling Author

“Rick and Laura are incredibly charming and likable…and the book’s mystery is well structured with clues and red herrings doled out steadily to move the plot along and keep things interesting… can’t wait for the return of The Zen Man.” –Book Reviews by Elizabeth A. White

“The Zen Man is an homage and update of Dashiell Hammett’s Nick and Nora Charles, a well-paced mix of banter, action, and New Age philosophizing.” —  Gerald So, owner-moderator of DetecToday for fans of the private eye genre

I’ll state upfront that I tend to read darker mystery novels, so I wasn’t quite sure how I’d like The Zen Man (I’d read somewhere that it was a mystery with romantic elements). But this author hooked me. Well-developed mystery, complex/sympathetic characters, and plenty of grit. I still can’t get over “the dart scene” (won’t say more-don’t want to spoil it for readers). A highly recommended page turner that has me wanting more of the Zen Man. 5 stars.  – “ilovebookstoo”

"Doing Max Vinyl" contains all of the ingredients of a good book: an interesting story that makes sense and comes together in the end; a good description of the area which makes you believe that you are actually there and characters who seem to be real people.

Here's the set-up:
Earth first. Okay, maybe second. Third? She'll KILL you!
Max Vinyl's type of success story can only happen in America. Rising from humble beginnings, he has reached the height of the computer recycling racket. Problem is, he's using Lake Michigan as his own personal profit center. Even that wouldn't have been a problem if his environmentalist girlfriend Tris hadn't found out his dirty secret. And while Max is devastated by his love crashing down around him, he's about to learn that the rage of a woman scorned packs far more firepower and potential for destruction than he had ever imagined.
Iraq War veteran Annie Ogden has spent three tormented months living in a cabin alone trying to re-discover her purpose in life. When two of Max's thugs threaten Annie's sister, she is dragged into his corrupt world in an unwitting alliance with the environmentalist, Tris. Which is really lousy news for Max. Will he hold up under the coordinated attacks of two furious women? As things spin completely out of control and complications mount, it's all Max can do to stay one step ahead until it's all he can do to stay alive!

A farce full of hysterics and chicanery, Frederick Lee Brooke's first installment of the Annie Ogden mysteries is an incisive examination of corporate lunacy, greed and modern disconnection. Having received multiple four and five-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.com, Doing Max Vinyl: An Annie Ogden Mystery is loaded with razor-sharp dialogue, ingenious plotting and so much fun it should be illegal!
One Reviewer Notes:
Characters must be Brooke's stock in trade, and they are on full display in "Doing Max Vinyl". Whether absurd, sympathetic or playing on our stereotypes, his characters are compelling and memorable. Ethnically diverse thugs, the Iraq war vet, the sleazy entrepreneur and sexy tree-hugger, all come to life with hilarious banter in a noir vibe while colliding in a 100mph Hollywood car crash of plot lines.

Publetariat Dispatch: Thrillercast Is Back For 2012

Publetariat: For People Who Publish!

In today’s Publetariat Dispatch, author and small publisher Alan Baxter introduces Thrillercast, a genre fiction podcast.

ThrillerCast – the podcast I co-host with thriller/action adventure  author, David Wood, is back for another year. We chat about anything to  do with thriller and genre fiction, and regularly have cool guests on  the show.

The first ep of 2012 has just gone live and it’s a  corker. We talk about our plans for the year, discuss KDP Select, have  some free books to give away AND have a chat with Myke Cole, author of  the Shadow Ops books – the first one, Control Point, is out next week from Ace.

ThrillerCast ThrillerCast is back for 2012

The books sound great:

Cross The Forever War with Witchworld, add in the real world modern military of Black Hawk Down, and you get Control Point, the mile-a-minute story of someone trying to find purpose in a war he never asked for. – Jack Campbell, New York Times Bestselling author of The Lost Fleet series

I’m  definitely looking forward to reading that. Myke is a great guy too,  and a total nerd for roleplaying games. It’s a fun chat.

Check out the episode here, and click here to go to the main podcast site, where you can access all Thrillercast episodes.

And check out Myke’s site here.

“The illustrations are beautiful. My 2-year-old was very excited to see ‘the birds’ on my screen. They made her giggle.” – Jill Cooper, author of The Dream Slayer

Here’s the set-up:

Honey, an inquisitive, young parakeet living in the Australian Outback, decides to become a superhero after she spies a human family watching Superman. Since she already has the power of flight, all she needs to do is create a costume to conceal her true identity and then fly off in search of animals that need rescuing.

Unfortunately, every time she tries to help, Honey only ends up making matters worse. She spoils Kangaroo’s game of hide-and-go-seek by revealing his hiding place to Wallaby; Mr. Anteater must go hungry when she alerts the ants to his presence, and Mrs. Koala is made a laughingstock among bears when Honey pretends to be her Joey. Finally realizing that she’s not as heroic as she’d like, Honey gives up her day-saving efforts.

But what happens when someone actually needs Honey’s help? Will she rise to the challenge? Honey the Hero is the first in a new series of color-illustrated books for children entitled The Bird Brain Books.

Reviews

“Honey is my favorite because she is good and cool.” – Arriana Rock, a 3-year-old reviewer

“Young readers will enjoy this book, and older readers will enjoy reading it to them!” – A well-intentioned bird lover

“This whimsical story of Honey, the heroic little bird of the Australian Outback, positively captivated me! Although Ms. Chand is a superb storyteller, it’s the lessons about heroism and life that, for me, make this such a compelling and inspirational read.” – Terri Giuliano Long, best-selling author of In Leah’s Wake

“The story is beautifully and sympathetically written, so that the young ones are not overwhelmed with big words, especially if they try to read it themselves. If you have an inquisitive young child or two, then they will love this book.” – Lynn Worton, reviewer at Book Mews and Tattle Tails

From the Author

To all the lovely children
who chase merrily after geese,
imitate ducks’ quack-quacking,

The birds love you, too.
And they want to tell you their stories.

#1 Amazon Best Selling Graphic Novel in Horror and Science Fiction.

The Gods of Men have had many names, Zeus, Odin, Jupiter, Yahweh, and Allah to name just a few. These Gods have descended upon the earth in their chariots of fire since the dawn of man.  After each visitation they leave things behind, such as our first language and our knowledge of the stars.  What if there was more…

What if these “Gods” return once every few thousand years to lay waste to the planets population as their food supply, choosing only the most powerful civilization at the time to help them succeed?  In return, that civilization would be spared to repopulate the world in it’s image, until they return again thousands of years later…erasing the visitors true intentions from written history.

All the prophecies were right – the world as we know it comes to an end in 2012 with the arrival of the prophesized Wormwood comet that explodes in the atmosphere. The entire adult population of the planet quickly transforms into Wraiths, grotesque former humans out to devour uninfected humans.

Follow young Jack Foster, his trauma induced psychotic ten-year old brother Mason, and baby Lucy as they struggle to survive in a world of Gods and men.

WARNING: These dead do more than just “walk.”
