I Shall Be Gone

by Richard Ferrara

I Shall Be Gone
4.8 stars – 15 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

Something funny is going on in the mind of Jobeus. He’s been lying awake at night having visions. It’s been a week since they moved him to the Hawses’ foster home way out in the country, and the house is still strange, the old man in the pajamas downstairs is weird. Everything is. His old life is lost to him, childhood is ending, and now he’s beginning to lose his head too. Or is he only just beginning to discover its power? Here Brackenwoods forest stretches for miles and miles around, and the legend of a hero long gone still hangs over the hills. Jobeus is waking. In the dark it seems as though the great mystery is about to reveal itself. Something is happening to him. He can’t stop thinking about the Hawses’ older daughter, the cat out in the pothole seems to be waiting on him, there is another world calling to him from somewhere. Who’s to say where his road will lead him, because truth is a pathless wood, and the journey home for Jobeus is about to begin. But the only way out is within.

From the writer that nobody knows comes the epic novel sure to stir the minds of dreamers, pinch the arms of sleepers, and knit the brows of fools.

Reviews

“…surprisingly and dangerously addictive – a unique and brave novel…undeniably immersive. The narrative of Jobeus is charming, funny, at times poetic and attentive. All the drama and involuntary comedy of the beginning of adolescence are brilliantly crafted…perhaps the best kind of contemporary fiction…a novel for readers to savor and enjoy.” –Readers’ Favorite

“Ultimately, I Shall Be Gone is a story of ignorance and control, and how the two can come together to stifle individual thinking, sometimes so seamlessly that you don’t even know it’s happening until it’s too late. Ferrara exhibits a pretty masterful control of the borderline stream-of-consciousness style that’s used to take us into Jobeus’s thoughts…consistently and with purpose, in the end delivering its heart-felt message intact…enjoyed this book immensely.” –San Francisco Book Review

About The Author

Several years ago the author quit his job in San Francisco and flew to Lima, Peru on a one-way ticket to nowhere. It was during this time that he holed up in Arequipa and wrote most of what would become his first novel – I Shall Be Gone, a spell invoked from visions of youth in the farther reaches of the Great North Woods. The bulk of his travel writings from South America remain unpublished under the title of The Lunatic Chronicles.

Here's the set-up:
Luke Merritt is the tenacious director of an ambitious conservation effort located in the jungled heart of the Congo River Basin. In the newly formed Kigogo Wildlife Reserve, where the scythe of death takes the form of microscopic flesh-eating organisms as easily as it does enormous crocodile, the inhospitable dark and swampy forest has kept it isolated from the bullets and blades of warlords that have taken so many lives in the region.

One month before the Reserve dedication ceremony, a guide is shot and killed. Most dismiss it as a random encounter with bushmeat hunters and another example of the daily violence that has gripped the country for centuries. But Merritt isn’t as willing to let the death go unexplained and unpunished. Has the violence finally arrived in Kigogo, or is there an entirely new presence in Central Africa?

With aid from an unlikely source, Merritt embarks on a dangerous journey into the Reserve and uncovers a crime that could have grave impact around the globe. A frantic chase through the interior of the Democratic Republic of Congo will decide Merritt’s fate, and for millions of people, life lies in the balance.
One Reviewer Notes:
Descriptive and erudite, THE RESERVE is a entertaining read, a thriller set in the exotic environs of the Kigogo Reserve. In honesty, I did find certain stretches of prose a bit dry, yet Barbieri never leaves the reader lost in the jungle of technical information. I can confidently say that you will come away from THE RESERVE not only decently satisfied but also beholding interesting background concerning the African Wilds and international intrigue that can plague it.

*THIS BOOK CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE* New Adult Contemporary Romance*

“If you’re into hot reads, this book is perfect for you. Let me break it down in a few words. Hotness level: dangerously high. Sexy British accent: check. Alpha male without being overbearing: check. Mesmerizing blue eyes: check. Swoon-worthy: Heck, yes. You get not the sparks-flying kind of chemistry but the electricity-flowing kind. Everytime they are together you can feel the tension in the air so thick it’s like a blanket surrounding you. Found in Us just gets a hold of you and makes you read until there is no page left to turn. I was hooked; it sucked me right into the story and didn’t spit me back out until I have finished every word.” The Diary of Book Enthusiasts

All Jessica wants — as a college graduate — is to be a good girl. She landed the job of her dreams at a museum and is trying to eliminate temptations. No more short skirts (when she can help it). No wild parties. And no men.

She particularly excels at that last thing. . .

Until her path crosses Parker’s. Again. Jessica remembers the last time their paths crossed very well. She was left with a seriously bruised ego. She knows it would be best to avoid him altogether. But the charming Brit makes it hard for her to elude his electrifying pull. He is as irresistible as he is captivating.

And enigmatic.

Because underneath the sleek Armani suit and the sweet British accent that makes her crave his touch, Parker isn’t the perfect gentleman everyone thinks he is.

He’s exactly what Jessica doesn’t want, but desperately needs.

A bad, bad boy.

*No cliffhanger * This novel is recommended for 17+ due to sexual content and mature themes.*

*This is book 2 in the series. Book 1, Lost in Us, tells the story of James and Serena.* Each book in the series can be read as a STANDALONE*

Reviews

““I loved it” might be a bit of understatement to how I feel about this book. If you’re into hot reads, this book is perfect for you. Some readers are looking for the obvious traits, so let me break it down in a few words: Hotness level: dangerously high. Sexy British accent: check. Alpha male without being overbearing: check.Mesmerizing blue eyes: check. Swoon-worthy? Heck, yes. So what do you get if you put the party girl and the gentleman who got it bad for her together in one place? Yep, you get not the sparks-flying kind of chemistry but the electricity-flowing kind. Everytime they are together you can feel the tension in the air so thick it’s like a blanket surrounding you…” The Diary of Book Enthusiasts

Reviews

“I usually take a week to read a book. This one took exactly four hours. Could not put it down.. Inspirational and compelling. Loved it!!!” – Tom Myslow

“A very warm hearted life story of hardship, wandering and success. The author’s style can be summed up in one word…..smooth. He transitions between chapters of his life without confusion, interruption, awkwardness or unnecessary information. He describes places vividly; and his descriptions of people and himself are dealt with a remarkable self depricating sense of humor and honesty. An excellent story of the trials and tribulations of a successful person. Great Read that captivates your interest.” – George R McWilliam
