Here’s the set-up:

Vanquished by tyranny, their fight for freedom rages. Amidst the struggle, proof of their stolen faith is discovered. And a nation rises.

The “Songs of the Deliverer” novels tell the story of a man sent to fill the void left by the death of the baby in the manger. Two centuries after the baby Jesus was deprived of his destiny as the fulfillment of the biblical prophecy, Emmanuel comes to bring hope to the hopeless and to reveal the path to new life. He reveals himself to be the Christ, the one sent from above, and religious congregations form to worship him and follow his path. But a ruthless King threatened by the people’s dedication to the new Savior, decrees that the veneration of Emmanuel cease and all relics of him be destroyed. It’s as if Christ never was.

Now, in Resurrection of Freedom the fourth book in the series, a battle for freedom is waged on the streets of the country. In the midst of this revolution, young grade school students are thrust into the eye of the storm and come face to face with the tyrannical ruler who deprives them of their liberties.  Ensnared in extraordinary circumstances not of their making, these students stake their futures in the revolution sweeping the country. Trapped and on the verge of defeat, an unlikely hero emerges to lead the way out. His trading chip – an item of the forsaken Christ that could change everything. An offer is made to the despot who agrees to a deal: reveal the proof of the vanquished savior or the students will be incarcerated for the rest of their lives. With time running out, the ransom is paid. Will the promise be kept?

Resurrection of Freedom is the closing installment of the “Songs of the Deliverer” Christian fiction series that reimagines the story of Christ in modern day. A Modern Day Story of Christ commences the series with the telling of how one man can save the world. Faith Wins reveals the spiritual devotion of those who went forth to make the truth of Christ known to people everywhere. Serving as a prequel, Glory Born is the memoir of an old man who befriends an orphan girl. Their unlikely alliance saves the baby who will fulfill the 7:14 prophecy written in scripture: a young woman shall bear a child who will be named Emmanuel – God is with us. Resurrection of Freedom is the culmination of the series and results in the birth of a new nation conceived by God and founded on the principles of liberty and equality for all.

Through the ordeals of everyday people, Resurrection of Freedom shows that faith is ours to cherish as long as freedom prevails. Inspired by the example of the Teacher who shows that the greatest love is to give one’s life for a friend, the most important lesson of all is taught: blC. Upon this cornerstone of Christian goodness, a great America is born.

“Songs of the Deliverer are we. Divine miracles walking in harmony with Christ on the way to forever. We are the manifestations of God, the Author of life, and we are the outpourings of His holy love. God’s truth abides in us, always in us, only in us.” from Resurrection of Freedom

“Songs of the Deliverer” by Elvo Fortunato Bucci is a beautiful novel. There is no other word to describe the potency and the effortless way it was written. The textual complicity with the Bible is amazing, plus the multi-level text gives the perfect spark to an already powerful story.” from Rabia Tanveer, Readers Favorite

Written with teens and young adults in mind, “Songs of the Deliverer” can be enjoyed by readers of all ages who want to know Christ more.

The Opium Lord’s Daughter

by Robert Wang
4.7 stars – 41 reviews
Everyday Price: $4.99
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Following the harrowing journey of Lady Lee Su-Mei and her family, Robert Wang’s debut novel is a historical drama told from dual perspectives—Chinese and British—about the First Opium War, a tragic and history-altering conflict. Honoring the tradition of noted historical fiction writers such as Ken Follett, Philippa Gregory, and James Clavell, The Opium Lord’s Daughter artfully weaves true events and characters into the narrative, offering the reader a selective glimpse into a world populated with rogue drug traders, imperialist government officials, religious zealots, scrappy survivors.

Su-Mei, the eponymous protagonist, is a young woman unbounded by convention. From the moment we meet little Su-Mei, she valiantly resists her wealthy and powerful father—one of the largest opium traders in mid-19th century China—who attempts to force her into the barbaric practice of foot binding. Through her, readers look with fresh eyes upon antiquated and harmful traditions, and understand how time and experiences truly shape a person during their life’s journey.

Her defiance sets in motion a series of events, forever altering her fate, as well as the fates of those she holds dear. Su-Mei is forced to rapidly come-of-age and muster her heroic spirit to survive her crumbling world. Taboo romances, tumultuous adventures, and heart-wrenching tragedies befall Su-Mei and her loved ones throughout the course of the story.

The Opium Lord’s Daughter is an expedition through the destruction of a culture, underscoring the hold and havoc drug empires continue to exert in society, even to this day. A must read for fans of Shogun, Downtown Abbey, Outlander and other sweeping tales rooted in history!

“Wang’s descriptions and antidotes bring the narrative to life and capture the complexities of this time…and crafts a spellbinding tale of love, endurance, sorrow, history, and strength.” 5 Stars – Jessica Tingling, San Francisco Book Review

“Robert Wang has written a debut novel that tells not just a compelling, enlightening, and riveting story but also a very educational one in the genre of historical fiction.” 4.5 Stars – Alex C. Telander – Portland Book Review

‘The Magic School Bus’ Series Author Joanna Cole Has Died

From NPR: Joanna Cole, whose Magic School Bus series made science both dazzling and goofily fun for generations of children, died on July 12 at age 75…. Support our news coverage by subscribing to our Kindle Nation Daily Digest. Joining is free!

Joanna Cole‘s death was announced by her publisher, Scholastic. The cause of death was not given.

She originally created The Magic School Bus in 1986 with illustrator Bruce Degen. The core idea of a sweet and nerdy crew of schoolchildren taking field trips into scientific concepts, bodily parts, into space and back to the age of dinosaurs — and always led by their teacher, the intrepid Ms. Frizzle — eventually spun out into dozens of tie-ins and more than 93 million copies in print, plus a beloved television show that aired for 18 years in more than 100 countries.

In the U.S., the original Magic School Bus TV series was broadcast by PBS for 18 years; in 2017, an updated version launched in 2017 on Netflix, with the first of four specials on the way in August. (Ms. Frizzle was a perfect role for a comedian: She was first voiced by Lily Tomlin, and then in the Netflix version by Kate McKinnon.)

The book series won many awards, including an NEA Foundation Award for Outstanding Service to Public Education.

Cole was born in Newark, N.J. in 1944. She said that her inspiration for Ms. Frizzle was her own fifth-grade teacher. Cole worked answering letters to the editor at Newsweek, as a school librarian and as a magazine and children’s book editor before become a full-time author herself. Her first title, published in 1971, was Cockroaches.
