The Original Alibi (A Matt Kile Mystery Book 2)

by David Bishop
4.3 stars – 401 reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Eleven years ago General Whittaker, long retired, former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, bought an alibi for his grandson who had been arrested for the murder of his fiancée, Ileana Corrigan, and the general’s unborn great grandson.

The charges were soon dropped and the grandson released. General Whittaker is now dying and he can no longer restrain his doubts.

The question that has haunted him all these years must be answered. Did his money save his innocent grandson or cheat justice?

˃˃˃ The general hires Matt Kile to thaw this cold case. The solution of the crime is complicated by the passage of years and an excess of suspects, including the general’s grandson, the general’s promiscuous adult daughter, and even the general himself.

All had means, motive, and opportunity. The Original Alibi is a big story told on a small stage, intimately portrayed primarily among the members of the Whittaker family and those who serve them. Of the secrets and strategies that fester inside an outwardly functional and famous family.

˃˃˃ Matt Kile is a former homicide detective, and pardoned ex-con who, like several real-life former cops, has gone on to achieve success as a writer of mystery fiction.

Matt’s efforts are aided by a colorful cast of Damon Runyonesque characters. Chief among them is Axel, Matt’s former cellmate whose parole, after more than thirty years in prison, had been advanced by Matt’s promise of a job. He is also helped by Hillie, a young inexperienced streetwalker Axel takes under his wing. Then there’s Bruno Grunsky, a former mob wheelman, and retired spinster Clara Birnbaum who makes pies in return for Axel’s favors. This mixed bag of characters add flavoring to the story, while each, in their own way, help Matt Kile determine the guilt or innocence of General Whittaker’s grandson.

˃˃˃ A stunning, fast-paced mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Fans of Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, and JR Rain, will love the second installment of the A Matt Kile Mystery Series from International bestselling author, David Bishop.

5-Star Amazon Reviews

“”Death of a Bankster” takes you inside an outwardly famous and seemingly “normal” family while the guilt or innocence of the scion’s grandson is determined. It is rare to read a gripping mystery that can also be considered good literature.”

“This was a remarkable book. After seeing that nothing happened to the real banksters who almost destroyed the world’s economies in 2008, it was enlightening to see some of them brought to justice in this book. It’s too bad we didn’t have the fictional experience in reality!”

If that were not enough, the brother-in-law of the chief of police is using his position as an administrative assistant to sexually harass Maddie. She could file a formal complaint, but the good-old-boys network in the department is watching how she handles the situation.
Further complicating Maddie’s life is two love interests: Gary Packard, a hunk who recently moved in across the street, and Lincoln Rogers, a confirmed bachelor, who lives thousands of miles away and works for the FBI.
As the case develops Maddie learns that the victims all wore the same bra size. She must decide if this is merely a coincidence or a criterion the killer uses when selecting his victims. She also finds that each of the victims is somehow connected to the Phoenix police department. This realization isolates her further as she must pursue the killer without disclosing this theory to her department because, if her suspicion is correct, the Beholder would learn she is closing in.
