Volume 1-3 of the Cleary Case Files follows FBI Agent Shawn Cleary as she pursues killers with disparate motives, methods, and signatures. There are no cliffhangers, but there is so much character development in each succeeding volume that reading them in order would enhance the experience.

A common thread involves twin serial killers, Mitchell and Trevor Gant. They will be dealt with in the upcoming Volume 4, Fourplay, to be released in November, 2016.

Volume 1: First, Kill All The Lawyers

FBI agent Shawn Cleary realizes a cunning killer has taken Shakespeare’s advice literally as the body count of poisoned lawyers rises. Shawn must find a way to work with Sgt. Ed Pulaski of the Washington, D.C. Police Department, who usually works alone because of his irascible personality.

Shawn’s romantic interest and her many relatives lend a humanizing touch to the revelations of dirty politics allowing character development to drive the story. As the evidence begins to implicate Shawn in an elaborate conspiracy perpetrated by a surprising source, Shawn is forced to flee to prove her innocence.
Pulaski is conflicted by an underlying feeling of respect for Shawn and must choose between helping her or her pursuers. The shocking climax occurs at a historic theater, where Shawn confronts an evil enemy while Pulaski wonders if he made the right choice.

Volume 2:Two Kill Again

Camping will never be the same! The National Park Slasher’s multiple victims are scattered across the country, adding to the fear that nobody is safe. FBI Agent Shawn Cleary pursues the ruthless killer through some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable to end the nightmare.

This follow up novel further develops Shawn as a complex character with a more empathetic side when she uses her skills as a psychologist to help a horribly injured child recover her memories and identify the killer. Pulaski reveals his softer side as he becomes involved in the newest case from a direction nobody would ever suspect.

Shawn sifts through false clues until a startling discovery after a horrific attack in Yosemite sends her to Glacier National Park with the knowledge that the attacks are more personal than she could have believed. Amid blizzard conditions, Shawn leads her wary team to the treacherous, snow covered trails of Glacier for a stunning confrontation.

Volume 3:Third Breath

Ebola outbreaks occupy the headlines, but the Superbugs created by a monster could be the cause of the next pandemic. Dr. Jamie Carpenter, enlisted by FBI Agent Shawn Cleary, agrees to an undercover assignment to discover the identity of a mass murderer whose goal is death on a global scale.

Meanwhile, Shawn is trying to convince her associates that recent suicides are the result of a criminal conspiracy. She theorizes that a splinter group is mimicking the NSA’s eavesdropping, identifying would be criminals, and cleverly eliminating them. The self-named Patronus prevents a massacre and declares society as its client.

The disparate cases are merged with Cleary acting as a mentor to Carpenter, trying to keep her focused on their common goals-find the perpetrators and prevent a pandemic. The novel races to a surprising conclusion tempting the reader to scan the chapters a second time looking for missed clues.
