Here's the set-up:
It was a flash in the moonlight, a blur of motion like I’d never
witnessed before. No human had the capacity to move like that. When I
found myself face-to-face with him there in the meadow, I knew without a
doubt that the journal was authentic. I knew that my grandfather hadn’t
been crazy at all.
Because a foot away from me stood a vampire.
Closer now, I could see the details that I’d missed before. His body seemed to be a solid mass of muscle, garbed in black jeans and a black V-neck t-shirt that emphasized the size of his biceps. The human-looking frame and face might have brought my disbelief back in a tidal wave if it weren’t for the eyes. The contrast between his dark slanting eyebrows and the ice blue gaze that slid over me appreciatively was inhuman. The sardonic half smirk of his hard-looking mouth revealed that the nature of the creature before me was far from friendly.
“Why am I here?” He tilted his head slightly and raised a hand to rub his chin.
“Hmm. Let me think.” Snapping his fingers suddenly, he brightened up and stated sarcastically, “Oh yes! Now I remember. I’ve been imprisoned here.” I watched him move casually away, his dark boots treading quietly in the nighttime stillness. “Either you’re not the brightest bulb in the room or you haven’t read the journal yet. Which is it?”
Sarah reads her grandfather's journal in stunned disbelief. What was once her grandfather's responsibility has passed to her father and now to her. She has become the Warden. Her life will never be the same.
This is part one of a four-part series. It is 31,880 words long. It is a novella, not book length.

Vampire's Warden is a story that pulls you into the world of the unseen from the beginning. I was so taken with the story that I read it twice. A woman who has lost her father and inherited the Inn and land now must take on the responsibility of keeping the business together. Abandoned by a mother who left behind two little girls and a husband she finds a way to bring turmoil and chaos from afar. Surrounded by a magical prison on her land that holds one of the strongest vampires alive or should I say undead. She falls into a world Vampires, Council, politics,betrayal and a forbidden attraction for a vampire that would die protecting her and her family, but everything isn't like it seems. This book is an excellent read.

About The Author
S.J. Wright (aka Steph) first began writing stories when she was twelve years old. She has been a cashier, a receptionist, a factory worker and has served a multitude of other roles over the years. Her favorite role has been that of a mother to her two sons. She lives in Texas with her husband, two boys and Shelby, an old Jack Russell terrier who likes to follow her into every room of the house. S.J. grew up near the University of Notre Dame and most of her family still lives in Indiana, where she hopes to live again one of these days.
The Undead in Brown County series takes place in Brown County, Indiana. S.J. and her husband spent a few days there after they were married in 2002. She began writing the series in October of 2010. In February of 2011, she published her first novel The Vampire’s Warden as an ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. After several months of self-promoting the book, she was able to consider the idea of turning it into a career. Since then, she has released three more books in the series and is working on a fifth.

His muscular body turned my way, and he crossed the room in a few decisive steps. I noticed with a startling sense of awe that his eye color had changed. Instead of the crystal-blue hue that I had seen time after time, even in my dreams, his eyes were brilliantly silver and the dark brows arching defiantly over them were creased with tension. He grasped one of my hands, pulled it towards him, and turned it over.
“Michael…” I breathed his name like a prayer.
I watched, disbelievingly, as he pressed a fiery kiss into the palm of my hand. I had never before felt the alarming sensation of Michael’s lips on my flesh. It was a moment I would not soon forget. Every other sensation in my body ground to a sudden halt when I felt the warmth of his lips. It seemed as if every other part of my body had gone numb with the shock of it. But the palm of my hand was burning. It was a rolling heat that made me gasp.
When I raised my head to look at him, all I saw was a blur of motion. He had moved so fast that I had barely realized he was leaving. I heard the backdoor open and the screen door squeak as he passed through to the back yard. Then a terribly cold silence fell over the room.

S.J. Wright is an up and coming new author who has written a book that pushes into an area where few dare to go in her diversion from the norm of what is and isn’t acceptable with regard to the characteristics of vampires. Her inclusion of the ‘watcher’ or ‘warden’ is also an interesting twist.
Ms. Wright is an author to watch. She tells the vampire story from a fresh perspective–that of a heroine who’s got what it takes to handle not only the undead, but the criminally undead. There are some flaws, but they’re easily overlooked by the reader who likes a page turner.
I lost some sleep over this book, preferring to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to find out what happened. I can’t recommend it enough!
The unconventional spin on a traditionally overdone topic refreshes it and makes it into something new.
