Fields of Color: The theory that escaped Einstein
4.4 stars – 54 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

A presentation of Quantum Field Theory written for the lay reader, without equations. The neglect of this theory – the only theory of physics that makes sense and that resolves the paradoxes of Relativity Theory and Quantum Mechanics – while expecting the public to accept the paradoxes, is an intellectual tragedy.

Reviews

“I now realize that from all the popular books on physics that I have read or skimmed, and there have been many, I have learned nothing! But your book I remember very well, and not only that but I feel that I finally understand relativity intuitively, as much as I possibly can for a layman (and, in a way, perhaps better than many physicists). You really have something to say, and what you say sticks to the ribs when the book is gone.” —Arthur Schwartz, M.D.

“Although many books have been written about the interpretation of quantum physics, Rodney Brooks has written a book that finally gets it entirely right… Brooks presents the news about quantum field theory in a non-technical but accurate manner that will enlighten both the general public and the professional scientists. His explanatory technique of using different colors to represent different fields is a stroke of pedagogical genius. Anybody who wants to understand quantum physics should read this book.” —Art Hobson, Ph.D., 2006 Milllikan Award winner and author of “Physics: Concepts and Connections”

“Applying Quantum Field Theory [to wave-particle duality] is shown to cause the ‘paradox’ to disappear. Further, Brooks’ attack on Special Relativity based on the behavior of fields presents the reader with a more easily understandable picture… Despite the fact that Dr. Brooks has essentially rejected the use of mathematics throughout, there is plenty here for specialist and interested reader to ponder.” —Edward Finn, Ph.D., past Chairman of Physics at Georgetown University and co-author of the textbook “Physics”
About The Author

Rodney A. Brooks received a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University where he learned Quantum Field Theory from its prime developer, Julian Schwinger. During a 25 year career at the National Institutes of Health he published 124 refereed articles. Among his accomplishments was the design and construction of the highest resolution PET scanner at the time. As an amateur clarinetist he founded and led a klezmer band called Shir Delite. After retiring in 1999 he moved to New Zealand where he founded “Kiwis for Balanced Reporting on the Middle East.” Among his other interests is combating the many myths about global warming.

#1 AMAZON BESTSELLER

When the body of Hunter Gearhardt washes up on the banks of a seasonal river outside of Pomacochas, Peru, with only samples of vegetation, a handful of feathers, two black- and gray-streaked rocks, and a golden headdress of indeterminate origin in his possession, his grieving father launches an expedition to determine how his son died. The party uses these clues to divine Hunter’s route into the jungle, where they find a surviving offshoot of a primitive tribe, long thought to be extinct, and something far more sinister, something that’s been able to avoid discovery for eons for one simple reason: No one leaves the rainforest alive.

Includes a free bonus novella: Xibalba.
One Reviewer Notes:
One word to describe this book? AWESOME! It has such an imaginative story line and intelligent prose, it made it hard to put this book down. The narrative is packed full of believable characters that you come to love or hate depending on the actor. It will suck you in from the very beginning and is packed with enough action to spin your head leading to an explosive ending. McBride weaves a tale reminiscent of Michael Crichton at his best and may have even surpassed that of the legendary writer--and I don't say that lightly, as Crichton is one of my favorites. McBride now has a new fan after reading this tale and if his other stuff is as good as this, I'll be sure to grab up everything I can from him. Huge thumbs up!!! I recommend it highly to everyone.

Derek Bast, always has the final say. In business and in his personal life, things are done his way, or not at all. So when a scathing review of his new band is published in The Scene and has his record producer second guessing his artistic choices, his band mate trying to call the shots, and Bast’s manager convinced he’s impossible to work with, it’s time to hunt down the source of his problems: Bess Halprin, reviewer for The Scene, the girl next door growing up, and his ex-best friend since senior year when she decided to hate him for no reason.

The last person Bess Halprin wants to see standing in the lobby of The Scene is Derek Bast. Unfortunately, she can’t deny that the last nine years look damn good on him. She expected to hate him. She didn’t expect the way he can still tug at her emotions, or the way his kiss—and his hands—set her on fire. Bess should’ve kept her distance, because Bast was right when he guessed her review was written for revenge. The problem is, to this day he has no idea what he did—how he screwed her over their senior year. The bigger problem? She’s giving him the opportunity to do it again, because she never could resist him.

When circumstances bring them both home to Santa Cruz, Bast earns his way into the heart of the girl next door, but when they return to L.A. and real life rushes in, will he be able to keep her this time or are the mistakes in their past destined to be repeated?

What readers are saying:

“Not your typical rockstar romance and I loved that about it.”

“…creative, witty, charming and funny with some decent heat thrown in for good measure.”

“…in love with this story…a beautifully written second chance romance about two childhood friends.”

Here’s the set-up:

Deep in the Oakwood, a boy is born without magic.

In a land where powers flow through one’s veins as naturally as water down a mountain stream, Micah is an aberration detested by everyone—everyone except Alekka, a gifted but solitary mage who understands the price of isolation. Her sensitivity to the thoughts of others drives her to seek solace in the forests surrounding Aclay, a small village that has been living under a malevolent shadow for hundreds of years.

As fear and loss ravage the countryside, the two outcasts form an unlikely bond forged in loneliness and surrounded by the flickering silhouettes of destiny. When their home is destroyed, the outcasts must join a volatile group of their peers on a journey that threatens to strip them of everything they cherish, imperil everything they’ve ever known, even force them to question the nature of reality itself. Can they find the key to stemming the tide of darkness without losing themselves along the way?

5-Star Amazon Review

“… The story was paced very well and the characters were well defined in their world. I appreciated the romantic elements but they weren’t overplayed and really added to the plot. I particularly enjoyed the original creatures that the author created, so there weren’t the same typical fantasy players you would expect. I would definitely recommend this book to other lovers of fantasy! “

Juicing as a Natural Cholesterol Solution by Julia Cussler is a fact-driven guide for people who want to lower their cholesterol naturally and lose weight as a bonus. The book provides information you can use about cholesterol in general and specific tips to help you remember confusing medical terminology.

After understanding how cholesterol works in the body, the book briefly describes how unhealthy levels of cholesterol are diagnosed and details risk factors associated with high cholesterol. The dangers of high cholesterol are also addressed.

Potential side-effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs are investigated in great detail. This section is important for people currently taking statin drugs or those considering them. For example, the author reveals a powerful antioxidant our body manufactures that almost every cell in our body needs, which statin drugs destroy.

The next section explains juicing as a natural solution for controlling and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. For instance, by juicing the entire fruit or vegetable, our body gets all the nutrients it needs to thrive.

Scientific evidence is provided to validate that by furnishing our body with correct nutrients, juicing can lower cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs.

The author then suggests “it’s time to have some fun” as we meet top vegetable and fruit “friends” that help lower our cholesterol. You’ll find step-by-step techniques to begin juicing along with comprehensive information about each fruit or vegetable, including any contraindications with mainstream drugs. Several surprises are revealed, such as a plant food we’ve shunned in the past that dietitians are now encouraging us to eat daily!

We are exploring health benefits and cholesterol lowering abilities of following superfoods:
Kale
Cranberry
Carrot
Apple
Avocado
Celery
Tomato
Cucumber
Guava

User-friendly information is backed with clinical studies. Juice and smoothie recipes are specially adapted for each specific fruit or vegetable.

This just may be the book that inspires you to seriously use juicing as a natural cholesterol solution!
