“Many of the secrets revealed in “The Marriage of Silence and Sin” are dark indeed, yet Lyon never wallows in them nor uses them for gratuitous purposes… The characters are vibrant, believable, and relevant to the contemporary world.”

–Janine Stinson, ForeWord Clarion Review

Here’s the set-up:

The Marriage of Silence and Sin” has won the SILVER MEDAL for the 2011 Independent Publisher Book Awards for the mystery/suspense/thriller category. If you like Jodi Picoult or Stieg Larsson, the book will grab you and run. The plot-driven story takes the reader on an electric ride from the sleepy banks of the Ohio to Ciudad Juarez, unfolding a grisly mystery. Dicey Carmichael, a quirky British literature professor, is faced with the alleged suicide of a friend and former student. Convinced the death was a tragedy much more sinister, Dicey draws her best friend, Gale Knightly, an uptight, fast-track lawyer, into the lethal web to help uncover the horrific truth.

Desperate to find answers, Dicey and Gale turn to the artwork the young woman left behind. Her provocative and disturbing paintings give voice to the tortured past she could not confess in life. But was her past so dark that she preferred death over life?

What if the young artist knew that someone she loved was in danger? Perhaps then she would speak out—even if it meant forfeiting her life at the hands of a killer. As Dicey and Gale dig deeper into the mystery of the girl’s death, they find disturbing connections within their own lives. As they seek to give voice to their dead friend, the women must first face their own fears and prejudices to finally uncover the murderer. Will the best friends untangle the tragedy before death strikes again, but this time much closer to home?

Draped in wit and irony, “The Marriage of Silence and Sin” is a riveting, cautionary tale that explores the intermingling of human experiences, choice and fate in molding the human condition.

One Reviewer Notes:

The Marriage of Silence and Sin is a “can’t put down” novel filled with intrigue and suspense. The story starts at the funeral of a young girl who committed suicide. Her father, friends and boyfriend are all in attendance. The story then gets into the minds of these characters, ultimately ending with an interesting twist. Great read!

Someone’s killing Hemingways! Our Kindle eBook of the Day is a new mystery novella from the author of award-winning Kindle bestselling mystery The Summoner: Layton Green’s HEMINGWAY’S GHOST – 4.7 stars from 7 reviewers and just 99 cents on Kindle!

Here’s the set-up for Layton Green’s Hemingway’s Ghost, just 99 Cents on Kindle:

Someone’s killing Hemingways!

On a whim, six Hemingway impersonators use a Ouija board at Hemingway’s old house in Key West, trying to contact the great man himself.

And then they start to die.

Hemingway’s Ghost is a new mystery novella (16,000 words, approximately 70 pages in print) by Layton Green, author of award-winning and Kindle bestselling mystery/suspense novel The Summoner. You can visit Layton at www.laytongreen.com.

Praise for the Works of Layton Green:

“Layton Green is a gifted writer.” — Readers Favorite

“The Summoner is one of those books that make you want to turn on all the lights in your house and lock the doors . . . The settings are authentic and you can feel and smell the countryside . . . I would recommend for reading groups and book clubs; it is well researched and full of intriguing information. This is a wonderful read for those who enjoy both suspense and action stories.” — Seattle Post-Intelligencer

“I moved a little outside my comfort zone with The Summoner, and I am glad I did. A blend of action, history, anthropology, thrills, and chills, all delivered with a mature, polished voice. I am eager for more from this author.” — Scott Nicholson, Bestselling Author

“[T]his book is above and beyond in its narrative, its cohesiveness, the depth of its characters and the quality of the writing. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read for Odyssey Reviews.” — Odyssey Reviews (Winner — Odyssey Review’s Award of Indie Excellence)

“Green writes like a dream. Dominic Grey is a fascinating protagonist, and his quest for justice in the heart of a troubled African city gripped me from start to finish . . . a fast-paced and searing narrative that offers a glimpse into a world of religion, politics, and culture few could imagine. The next installment of Green’s suspenseful storytelling and Grey’s next journey can’t come soon enough!” — Melody Moezzi, Award-winning Author, War on Error

“[C]alls to mind such series as Jason Bourne and Indiana Jones, with supernatural/religious overtones thrown in. I recommend The Summoner to anyone looking for a suspense-filled journey into a unique—and at times, terrifying—culture that’ll keep you guessing.” — Bookhound’s Den

“Yes, I did put TWO Five Stars up there . . . giving Green’s The Summoner Five stars and Five stars alone downplays how I felt about this book . . . BUY THIS BOOK.” — 1000 + Books To Read

“Mystical, complicated, completely believable and terrifying . . . [w]ith an ending that will catapult you out of your reading chair. Riveting.” — The Review Broads

Layton is a mystery/suspense writer and the author of the Kindle best-selling and award-winning novel The Summoner. In addition to writing, Layton attended law school in New Orleans and was a practicing attorney for the better part of a decade (even though he still resents having cut his hair for that first interview).
He has traveled to more than fifty countries, lived in a number of them, and has a burning desire to see every country, city, beach, moor, castle, cemetery, twisted street and far flung dot on the map. Religion and cults, as well as all things spiritual and supernatural, have also been a lifelong interest.
Combine the travel and the religion with fifteen years of Japanese Jujitsu training, and the Dominic Grey series was born.
He has also been an intern for the United Nations, an ESL teacher in Central America, a bartender in London, a seller of cheap knives on the streets of Brixton, a door to door phone book deliverer, and the list goes downhill from there.Layton lives with his wife and son in Miami. What begins as a political mission for Roger Taylor, an American working for the British intelligence service, unexpectedly becomes an excursion into Tibetan metaphysics and a life-changing glimpse into the workings of the wheel of life and death.

Here’s the set-up:

It’s the first year of India’s independence from England. The creation of two nations, India for the Hindus, Pakistan for the Muslims, has become a nightmare of ethnic clashes and terrorism. Just as the violence is showing signs of easing, Gandhi is assassinated. With the entire subcontinent teetering on the edge of chaos, Roger Taylor, an American working for the British intelligence service, is called on to defuse a series of death fasts protesting the partition of India—something that can only add tension to an already volatile situation.

When the hardboiled Taylor arrives in the sacred city of Haridwar to confront the protesters, he encounters a woman who completely disarms him with her goodwill and depth of spirit. What begins as a political mission for Taylor unexpectedly becomes an excursion into Tibetan metaphysics and a life-changing glimpse into the workings of the wheel of life and death.

From the reviewers:

“His story reminds me of something in between  – PauljaSHx a Lancashire, UK book reviewer

“I would recommend this book to just about everyone looking for a thrilling action-adventure book.” – Flamingnet.com book reviewer

This book is perfect for all age readers — adventure, mystery, intrigue, suspense — yet no sex or inappropriate language! If you are having a difficult time getting your middle school son or grandson to read a book, introduce him to Gladius! — Bonnie

… a well written, fun and exciting young adult fantasy novel filled with some great characters, an exciting adventure, and a land populated by all sorts of creatures like dragons, mysterious creatures that walk the forests, and a unique villain that controls talking bats. … a fantasy novel that will be enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike. Well done! — Dean Lappi

I started writing short stories ten years ago. Then one day someone told me to choose three things and write a story around that. I chose a dragon, a tree and a ruby. From the seed of that idea, the story of Gladius grew.

I spent many years learning the craft of writing through the constant study of books and articles on writing. I also enrolled in and completed a two-year writing correspondence class along with various other online writing workshops. It has been a long but rewarding journey.

The twelve months prior to Gladius and the Bartlett Trial being published I sat down and rewrote it to the version of today. When I started writing I wanted to create a fantasy adventure novel for my three sons. I also wanted to show them that if you set your mind to something that it can be done. My boys are proud of my first novel I hope to continue writing for a long time to come.

Book II of the Gladius series is already under way! For more information visit http://www.authorjapaul.com/

Things have come to a head here at Kindle Nation.

Don’t get me wrong. We haven’t quit doing any of what we had been doing. In this issue you’ll still find news about new Kindle features, other ebook readers, benchmarks in the ongoing Kindle Revolution, and insightful analysis by Publetariat founder (and Kindle Nation general manager) April Hamilton on ebook business-to-consumer models.

“The book is a sailing person’s dream….a lot of seafaring terms and fun details for folks who enjoy being on board a ship/boat. The beautiful landscape of Tahiti was also well described, along with some mystery and, of course, romance.
–Elizabeth
Here’s the set-up:
Who hasn’t dreamt of sailing in the South Pacific as the owner of a sleek, gleaming yacht? Ben Beck finds that dream job as a crew member sailing on just such a ship. With a history of working ‘too good to be true’ opportunities, he still can’t believe his luck. Sailing excursions in Tahiti for a year then sell the yacht and get a nice chunk of the proceeds.

The ad said, “No Sailing Experience Necessary” and he had the qualifications. His fellow group members include Carl, the millionaire boss, Duane, a hard-to-please captain, Purrette, a serious beauty and Rudy, a potential danger.

After a confusing start of mis-information, Ben isn’t sure of exactly what he’s gotten himself into. How many partners does he have? Where exactly are they going?

And then there’s Tahiti.

Can they sail the southern seas without any mishaps? When Ben finds out what’s really going on, can he save the dream?

One Reviewer Notes:
“When something is too good to be true, it almost invariably is. Better Than Ever, Again is a story of Ben Beck, who follows his dreams of sailing the South Seas despite having no nautical experience whatsoever. A crew filled with offbeat characters, plenty of danger, and Tahiti, Better Than Ever, Again is a quirky and fun read that will prove hard to put down.

“In Dust, Art Slade has created a walk into another dimension. It is no wonder that the book has received such sterling reviews, as well as the Governor General’s Award and the Mr. Christie’s Book Award.

–A Customer

Here’s the set-up from Booklist:

Set in Saskatchewan during its dust-bowl years, Slade’s novel begins eerily as seven-year-old Matthew vanishes on his first walk into town alone. Matthew’s parents and the entire community appear to accept and forget his disappearance, but a strange set of circumstances leads his 11-year-old brother, Robert, to conclude that Matthew is still alive. It seems that Matthew’s disappearance, as well as the vanishing of several other area children, corresponds with the appearance of Abram Hamsich, a stranger who promises to build a rainmaking machine that will end the terrible drought. Hamsich soon has the whole town mesmerized, except for Robert (and his uncle), who gradually realizes Hamsich’s horrific true plans. Calling up Ray Bradbury’s 1962 classic Something Wicked This Way Comes and the legend of the immortal soulless wanderer, Slade’s haunting story shows the triumph of imperfect hope over manifest evil.

–Frances Bradburn

One Reviewer Notes:

“This book won the Governor General’s Literary Award back in 2001 for Children’s Literature. I loved it. Set in a small town in rural Saskatchewan of Horshoe something strange is going on. Robert’s younger brother has gone missing and soon no one seems to even remember him. The story set in a depression era dust bowl farm community, has many unique twists and turns.

“The strange things started happening when Abram Harisch arrived in town; he appears to be taking control of the townspeople through his magic, mirrors and bewitching nature. Harisch has promised the town a rain-making machine, and in following this dream they are slowing losing all they care about and don’t even notice. But Robert does and he knows he needs to avoid Harisch and figure out what is really going on or the whole town could be lost.”
