OnlineBookClub review 5 out of 5 starts; “I had a wonderful time reading through this book. It skyrocketed from a regular sappy tale to a mystery and crime thriller. There were a lot of characters, but the author did well to give each of them a little background to help readers connect more. I loved that the author’s writing style was descriptive. It made the book more enjoyable.I would recommend this book, especially to adults who enjoy good crime and mystery thrillers and wouldn’t mind a bit of sexual content. Overall, this is an exciting book that will leave readers with a good lesson learned.”

Emilio can’t resist attractive women, and when a beautiful young lady seduces him at a video promotion party for his famous daughter, his life will change forever. Lust and greed led to the birth of a new relationship. For her, it was a business deal to get a representation contract for the rising music star, and for him, one more trophy in his continuous pursuit of romance and seduction. However, what started as a passionate adventure became a nightmare when Emilio’s wife discovers the affair and confronts the lover. As a result of the violent encounter, he is not only kicked out of his house but also rejected by his lover, who claims he lied about divorcing his wife. Shortly after that, another hidden relationship he’s had with a young woman explodes in his face when she announces she’s pregnant and later dies in a suspicious hit-and-run accident.
To further complicate matters, his famous daughter accuses him of diverting money to cover his gambling debts. She fires him as her manager, which adds another challenge when a ruthless loan shark is looking for him, demanding a debt payment.
When the police find that the car involved in the death of the young woman belongs to Emilio, and it’s shown in the news, the victim’s family goes after him, seeking revenge. Chastised by his family, chased by the family of the woman who died in the car accident and the loan shark, Emilio realizes his life is in danger. He doesn’t see any solution but to escape from the multiple threats and starts a continuous search for a safe place to hide from his chasers and the police, who want to question him about the hit-and-run incident. As a fugitive, he will nearly escape a couple of close calls, and when it seems he has found a safe place to hide, he will fall again into a seduction web that will challenge his ability to evade the police.
The consequences of being a fugitive will endanger his family, and it soon will unravel some secrets around a casino he used to frequent and uncover a world of intrigues, love affairs, and greed.

Freemason … Shaman … Prophet … Seducer … Swindler … Thief … Heretic

Who was the mysterious Count Cagliostro?

Depending on whom you ask, he was either a great healer or a dangerous charlatan. Internationally acclaimed historian Iain McCalman documents how Cagliostro crossed paths — and often swords — with the likes of Catherine the Great, Marie Antoinette, and Pope Pius VI. He was a muse to William Blake and the inspiration for both Mozart’s Magic Flute and Goethe’s Faust. Louis XVI had him thrown into the Bastille for his alleged involvement in what would come to be known as “the affair of the necklace.” Yet in London, Warsaw, and St. Petersburg, he established “healing clinics” for the poorest of the poor, and his dexterity in the worlds of alchemy and spiritualism won him acclaim among the nobility across Europe.

Also the leader of an exotic brand of Freemasonry, Count Cagliostro was indisputably one of the most influential and notorious figures of the latter eighteenth century, overcoming poverty and an ignoble birth to become the darling — and bane — of upper-crust Europe.

The Teenage Brain: A Neuroscientist’s Survival Guide to Raising Adolescents and Young Adults

A New York Times Bestseller

Renowned neurologist Dr. Frances E. Jensen offers a revolutionary look at the brains of teenagers, dispelling myths and offering practical advice for teens, parents and teachers.

Dr. Frances E. Jensen is chair of the department of neurology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. As a mother, teacher, researcher, clinician, and frequent lecturer to parents and teens, she is in a unique position to explain to readers the workings of the teen brain. In The Teenage Brain, Dr. Jensen brings to readers the astonishing findings that previously remained buried in academic journals.

The root myth scientists believed for years was that the adolescent brain was essentially an adult one, only with fewer miles on it. Over the last decade, however, the scientific community has learned that the teen years encompass vitally important stages of brain development.  Samples of some of the most recent findings include:

  • Teens are better learners than adults because their brain cells more readily “build” memories. But this heightened adaptability can be hijacked by addiction, and the adolescent brain can become addicted more strongly and for a longer duration than the adult brain.
  • Studies show that girls’ brains are a full two years more mature than boys’ brains in the mid-teens, possibly explaining differences seen in the classroom and in social behavior.
  • Adolescents may not be as resilient to the effects of drugs as we thought. Recent experimental and human studies show that the occasional use of marijuana, for instance, can cause lingering memory problems even days after smoking, and that long-term use of pot impacts later adulthood IQ.
  • Multi-tasking causes divided attention and has been shown to reduce learning ability in the teenage brain. Multi-tasking also has some addictive qualities, which may result in habitual short attention in teenagers.
  • Emotionally stressful situations may impact the adolescent more than it would affect the adult: stress can have permanent effects on mental health and can to lead to higher risk of developing neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression.

Dr. Jensen gathers what we’ve discovered about adolescent brain function, wiring, and capacity and explains the science in the contexts of everyday learning and multitasking, stress and memory, sleep, addiction, and decision-making.  In this groundbreaking yet accessible book, these findings also yield practical suggestions that will help adults and teenagers negotiate the mysterious world of adolescent development.
