Here’s the set-up:

Clara Bennett

Doing the right thing means I have to die.
My secret precognitive abilities warned me so. There is no changing my fate, no matter how hard I try.
When I take a gunshot wound to the chest, my final resting place will be a shallow grave.
If only I knew who will pull the trigger.
My lifetime of running won’t help me now.
It’s too late for that.
There is no walking away from this moment or from the man I was destined to love for the rest of my life, no matter how little time I may have left.

Porter Anderson

I needed the help of the one woman who is avoiding me at all cost.
This is just my luck.
This is personal, and long-overdue where answers are on the line.
Getting her to agree is going to be impossible, especially when we met and I discovered that she sees only her impending demise in my eyes.
I’m going to have to get creative in convincing her to help solve my case and, more importantly, figuring out how to keep her alive.

Netflix teams with historian Ibram X. Kendi to adapt his acclaimed anti-racism books

From Entertainment Weekly: Netflix is stepping up the development of new anti-racism projects… Support our news coverage by subscribing to our Kindle Nation Daily Digest. Joining is free right now!

The streamer is partnering with author and scholar Ibram X. Kendi to produce three new projects based on his acclaimed books Stamped From the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America; Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You; and Antiracist Baby. Kendi will executive produce all three projects.

Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams (Music by Prudence and Life, Animated) will direct Stamped From the Beginning, described as “a hybrid documentary/scripted feature,” according to a press release. Girlfriends creator Mara Brock Akil will executive produce along with Kendi. Williams will also helm a companion documentary for younger viewers based on Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You.

Antiracist Baby, meanwhile, will become a series of musical animated vignettes aimed at preschoolers. Chris Nee, creator of Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins, will produce that project.

“I’m elated these projects landed at Netflix. What a wonderful partner,” Kendi said in a statement. “I’m elated to work with Roger Ross Williams, Mara Brock Akil, and Chris Nee. They are such ambitious, innovative, and passionate creators who are committed to racial justice. But I’m really elated for the viewers, for the adults and children who will be captivated, informed, and transformed by these projects.”

Here’s the set-up:

“With all the anger in our world today, this book is a good read to inspire your soul.” -Kendra Campbell.

Amora is a superbly written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The author weaves a well-crafted historical fiction based on a true story that will captivate the reader’s attention from the start. Skillfully constructed, this well researched story will have you turning the pages from beginning to end. This for me was a phenomenal read…It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class historical fiction with perfect pacing. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.” –Piaras, an Amazon distinguished Vine Voice Reviewer.

Amora is without a doubt, the most emotional Historical Christian story I have ever read.” –Chick Lit Café

Amora is a very visual story rich in details that pulls you in and doesn’t let you go.” –Sandra Gotlaufa

“This historical novel is based on the true story of the noblewoman who inspired Justin Martyr’s petition to the Roman Senate. The basic theme is forgiveness versus vengeance set in a sweeping action-adventure tale of sacrifice that examines spirituality and faith and explores the path to healing as the characters struggle with their pains of loss, betrayal, and guilt.” –Wayne S. Walker

“I was pleasantly surprised at not only how inspiring but also how captivating and exciting the storyline was; I could not put it down! It also gave me a better understanding of the Greco-Roman world and a greater appreciation of what the early Christians had to endure and the sacrifices they made. The author did a beautiful job telling this story and incorporating so many different emotions: happiness, sadness, courage, fear, hate, and, most importantly, the power of love and forgiveness. I highly recommend this book; it will not disappoint!” –Toni Powell

Executive reviews:

“The core concept of the novel feels like Christian forgiveness on a collision course with revenge.”

“The ideas of vengeance and forgiveness as two sides of a coin is a really compelling underlying motif for this novel.”

“I loved the inexorable pull of vengeance and betrayal pulling on all the characters. Knowing that the merciless hand of fate is moving towards Leo, creates the kind of delicious tension that drives stories in this genre.”

#1 New York Times bestseller · Seven starred reviews · Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Honor Book

“For all the struggle in this book, Thomas rarely misses a step as a writer. Thomas continues to hold up that mirror with grace and confidence. We are lucky to have her, and lucky to know a girl like Bri.”—The New York Times Book Review

This digital edition contains a letter from the author, deleted scenes, a picture of the author as a teen rapper, an annotated playlist, Angie’s top 5 MCs, an annotated rap, illustrated quotes from the book, and an excerpt from Concrete Rose, Angie’s return to Garden Heights.

Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Or at least win her first battle. As the daughter of an underground hip hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill.

But it’s hard to get your come up when you’re labeled a hoodlum at school, and your fridge at home is empty after your mom loses her job. So Bri pours her anger and frustration into her first song, which goes viral . . . for all the wrong reasons.

Bri soon finds herself at the center of a controversy, portrayed by the media as more menace than MC. But with an eviction notice staring her family down, Bri doesn’t just want to make it—she has to. Even if it means becoming the very thing the public has made her out to be.

Insightful, unflinching, and full of heart, On the Come Up is an ode to hip hop from one of the most influential literary voices of a generation. It is the story of fighting for your dreams, even as the odds are stacked against you; and about how, especially for young black people, freedom of speech isn’t always free.

Don’t miss Concrete Rose, Angie Thomas’s powerful prequel to her phenomenal bestseller, The Hate U Give!
