The Justice Department issued a subpoena to Simon & Schuster to investigate if John Bolton mishandled classified information while writing The Room Where It Happened

The Department of Justice has opened a criminal inquiry related to the publication of former national security advisor John Bolton’s highly critical tell-all book about his time working for President Donald Trump, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The DOJ has also reportedly subpoenaed Javelin, Bolton’s literary agency, for documents.

The subpoenas seek all communications between Bolton and the two companies, the Journal reported. Bolton has not been hit with a subpoena, according to the outlet.

Charles Cooper, an attorney for Bolton, told CNBC in a statement that he had seen the reports of the grand jury subpoenas.

“Ambassador Bolton emphatically rejects any claim that he acted improperly, let alone criminally, in connection with the publication of his book, and he will cooperate fully, as he has throughout, with any official inquiry into his conduct,” Cooper said.

The book was released in June, after a federal judge denied the DOJ’s request to block its publication.

A 3.5 year mission from which they’ll never return, a 2.5 million lightyear journey to another galaxy, a 1.5 member crew comprising a solitary captain and a half-baked AI…

Captain Sideris is a loner and knows LETO ships like nobody else, having risen to command the Lunar-Earth construction fleet, as they build ships to mine asteroids and colonize Mars. Suddenly he finds the colonization effort is for another planet, in another galaxy, and he’s the sole human guinea pig being gated through a wormhole with an AI playing Noah to LETO SS Casindra’s ark.

Everything goes well as he starts to survey four planets they plan to exploit, as he gets to know emergent AI ‘Al’, as he discovers he’s building a special relationship with empathic cat ‘Simba’. Problem is message drones gated home are not being returned per protocol, with little explanation, no supplies, and some cryptic and disturbing messages.

This full length novel reminiscent of Clarke and Asimov is set in the multi-author multi-genre Paradisi universe. Casindra Lost opens the Lost Mission Series which explains what happened to some of the early missions that underlie the various Paradisi colonization and post-colonization stories. Hard Target (Cobra Elite Book 1)

by Pamela Clare
4.7 stars – 160 reviews
Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

A life debt…

Derek Tower has spent his life at war, first as a Green Beret and then as the owner of a private military company, Cobra International Security. When a high-ranking US senator asks Cobra to protect his daughter, a midwife volunteering in Afghanistan, Derek’s gut tells him to turn the senator down. The last thing he wants to do is babysit an aid worker. But Jenna isn’t just another assignment. She’s also the younger sister of his best friend, the man who died taking bullets meant for him. There’s no way Derek can refuse.

An inescapable attraction…

Jenna Hamilton doesn’t need a bodyguard, especially not one hired by her intrusive and controlling father. She knew the risks when she signed on to work in rural Afghanistan, and the hospital already has armed security. She also doesn’t need the distraction of a big, brooding operative skulking about, even if he is her late brother’s best friend—and sexy as hell. As far as she’s concerned, he can pack up his Humvee and drive into the sunset. And, no, nothing her hormones have to say about him will change her mind.

A merciless enemy…

From the moment his boots hit the ground in Afghanistan, Derek does his best to win Jenna over, posing as her brother so the two of them can spend time alone. Except that what he feels for her is anything but brotherly. Stolen moments lead to secret kisses—and an undeniable sexual attraction that shakes them both to the core. But events have been set into motion that they cannot escape. When a ruthless warlord sets his sights on Jenna, Derek will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even if it costs him his heart—or his life.

And my new intern is perfect for the job, though pretending to have a relationship with her might be a little taboo.

Good thing I’m in charge.

None actually.

Lucky for me, it’s fallen right into my lap.

This pretty American girl has zero sense of direction, but a good heart and a sexy smile.

I’ve always been smitten by a woman that needs rescuing, or so it seems.

Something tells me that she might be more than I bargained for.

Either way, I just need her to fake it for me until it appears real.

Funny how real it quickly becomes.

Sundown on Top of the World (A Hunter Rayne Highway Mystery Book 4)

by R.E. Donald
4.4 stars – 562 reviews
Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

Former homicide investigator Hunter Rayne follows the white lines northward on the Alaska Highway, but a truck breakdown forces him to take an unscheduled stop in Whitehorse, Yukon, where he had been stationed as a rookie cop. While his Freightliner is awaiting repairs, Hunter and fellow driver, Dan (Sorry) Sorenson, kill time with a side trip to bush Alaska where a chance meeting with a young Alaskan woman awakens his interest in a baffling cold case. A reclusive trapper and his young girlfriend disappeared from a bloody cabin 25 years before, leaving their sled dogs chained outside.

Reawakened memories of his past coupled with a recent murder find Hunter back in investigative mode with the blessings of Whitehorse RCMP boss Bartholomew Sam, son of a shaman and Hunter’s old friend. He finds himself searching the banks of the mighty Yukon River for a tough old bush woman who may hold the key to more than one bloody death. It’s a vivid reminder that the breathtaking beauty of the northern wilderness camouflages its brutal indifference to human life.

This is the fourth novel in the Highway Mysteries series of character-driven traditional mysteries in a uniquely North American setting.

“An Irresistible Religious Conspiracy Thriller.” – BestThrillers.

Sir Isaac Newton is known as one of the greatest scientists of all time, but it is less known that he devoted much more time to secretive theological studies than he did to science. Fialkov is a fantastic writer, and THE NEWTON CODE moves with deft speed keeping the reader in suspense until the very end. While the plot is known half-way through the book, the eventual results of the penultimate conclusion cannot be guessed, even by the most astute reader or fan of the genre …
