Here’s the set-up:

This is the first book of a teen fantasy book series that nurtures the bloom of MAGIC in the soil of SCIENCE. The magic in this world is different from the “traditional” concept, because it’s backed up by realistic, physical scientific theories. As the story goes on, you’ll enjoy the unique charm of science and magic merging into each other – something that has rarely been attempted before. The transition from magic to science will be bit by bit, so the early books do read like a “mainstream” magic fantasy.

Soarame has a pair of special eyes. He can see magic elements in this world, which are supposed to be invisible. This enviable gift of his could reveal the truth of the world, but it also puts him in danger.

Many animals in this world possess magic power, so they are called “magimals” – dragons as examples. Soarame fortunately got a baby magimal as his best friend, but they got into troubles together – troubles that were a lot bigger than dragons.

Could they survive?

I didn’t know I was a witch… until someone wanted me dead.

Here I am, Lyla Ford, broke and starving, minding my own business, when twin sorcerers Tinniel and Nazeriah claim that I’m a witch from an ancient line. Not only that, they request an audience. Who do they think I am? Royalty?

I would never entertain the idea of magic, let alone the request to become a tracker for the two paranormal bounty hunters who work for the Federation of Magic. That is, until the ridiculously handsome Tinniel tells me that my missing mother is the leader of the Federation. Who knew?

When Tinniel gets kidnapped, a compulsion to find them both overtakes me, forcing me to work with the Federation. I have a feeling that if I don’t do as I’m told, the ancient line I descend from will die out. With my brutal, bloody murder.

It’s the most magical time of year, and anything can happen…

Nia Maddison has always believed that wishes come true on Nutcracker Lane. So, when she gets the opportunity to run her own Christmas gift shop on the most magical street in town, it feels like her wishes have been finally granted.

But working late one night, Nia discovers yet another boyfriend has cheated on her. As she trudges home – alone, again – she passes the (supposedly) magical nutcracker and half-joking thinks a wish can’t hurt. Cracking a nut in its mouth, she wishes to find Prince Charming.

The next day Nia gets to work to find another decoration shop has opened directly across the lane from her own, and she can’t resist having a nose around.

Whilst there, she accidentally backs into a human-sized Nutcracker, knocking it over and breaking it. Mortified, she flees from the store but when she gathers her resolve to go back and apologise, she stumbles across the gorgeous shop owner James, who looks exactly like Prince Charming…

Could her Christmas wish from the night before really be coming true?

Why is Snowman Paul so sad on Christmas Eve?

“A sweet, simple story of inclusion for kids who celebrate Christmas.” – Kirkus Reviews

Snowman Paul’s heart is made of icy snow, yet he craves family, friendship, and love on Christmas Eve! Will Dan find a way to include his best friend in his family’s joyous holiday dinner?

“Oh, dear!” sighed Paul, “Christmas is near,
But I have nothing much to cheer!
You’ll have your fancy meal inside…
You’ll carol by the fireside…
You’ll light your shiny Christmas tree…
You’ll chat with everyone, but me.
If that’s called friendship, I don’t know,
Perhaps I’d rather be plain snow…!”

With gorgeous watercolor illustrations and heartfelt rhyming text, this endearing tale perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday season and delivers valuable life lessons on how to be a loyal friend and a good person.

REVIEW by Donna Gielow McFarland for Readers’ Favorite

Crossing Over by Paul Clayton tells the story of an American family trying to survive the beginnings of the second civil war. Set some time in the not-too-distant future, the existence of two simultaneous presidents has split the country along ideological lines. The protests are becoming violent, sections of the country have formed their own militias, along with the militias of the two warring parties. In the midst of shortages of food and other necessities, gangs and thugs are terrorizing formerly safe neighborhoods. Realizing that it is no longer safe to remain in their home, Mike McNerney decides to pack the camper and flee to Canada with his wife, Marie, and disabled teenage daughter, Elly. Unfortunately, everyone else has the same idea.

Once I started reading, I could not put down this well-written and compelling short novel. Clayton’s premise is chillingly realistic. The book does not focus on the politics, but instead focuses on regular Americans who not long before led totally normal lives, and who are quickly turned into refugees as they try to escape the crime and violence taking over the country. The scene at the Canadian border was highly believable, as was the deterioration of Mike and Marie’s relationship as it crumbled under the stress of their ordeal. Complicating matters is the need to protect their beautiful daughter Elly, who is naïve enough to wander off with any stranger. Crossing Over should stand as a warning to anyone inclined to think that violence is the answer to political disagreement, as it paints a picture of how America could slide into chaos far too easily. There is some mature subject matter and language. Recommended for readers who are brave enough to read it.
