4.9 stars – 10 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

The students of Green Lane Academy roam their halls unaware that below their manicured campus exists a prestigious school of an entirely different kind . . .

Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Pope has enrolled at the Campus Below: a spy academy for shape-shifters hidden deep beneath the grounds of a boarding school whose humans unknowingly protect it. There, thanks to a carefully planned schedule, she leads a double life: spy trainee Below and normal teenager Above.

As if two course loads, concealing a secret power she alone wields, and coping with her father’s recent death weren’t enough, Phoebe finds herself developing major feelings for actor and teen heartthrob Colten Chase, who attends the Campus Above and appears to be majoring in winning Phoebe’s heart. But when officials learn that Phoebe may be at the center of a startling prophecy, she becomes the target of shape-shifting assassins who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth.

Now Phoebe’s lessons about Shaper’s enemies and spycraft take on great importance as a menace stalks the campus, with Phoebe as its target. Meanwhile, what began as an unlikely relationship with Colten, quickly morphs into heartache when she suspects that something sinister lurks beneath this movie star’s glitter and fame. Suddenly, Phoebe’s caught in a mesh of lies, betrayals, and danger where she doesn’t know who to trust, and needs to rely on herself—and her secret power—to get to the truth and to stay alive.

” …This may be categorized as a YA novel, but I’m considerably older than that particular demographic and I still loved this book…It is very easy to lose yourself in the world of Phoebe Pope!”

Don’t miss this

Reviews

  • “A deeply resonant read that manages to be funny without sacrificing its gravity. Highly recommended!” –Heather Figearo, Raging Bibliomania
  • “Thermodynamics are nothing; it’s that love thing that is so frustratingly hard to figure out. ‘Love at Absolute Zero’ is an excellent read that is very much worth considering, highly recommended!” –Midwest Book Review
  • “It is a given, now, that Christopher Meeks is a master craftsman as a writer…. [The novel] is a gift–and one of the many that continue to emerge from the pen and mind and brilliant trait for finding the humor in life that makes him so genuinely fine a writer.” –Grady Harp, Amazon Top-Ten Reviewer
  • “It is impossible not to like Gunnar Gunderson. As he progresses from one disaster or near miss to the next, one views him with a mixture of compassion and laughter, but he is such a good-hearted young man that it is impossible not to root for him.” –Sam Sattler, Book Chase, who placed it in Top Ten Best Fiction 2011
  • “As engaging as it is amusing, ‘Love at Absolute Zero’ is, ultimately, a heartfelt study of the tension between the head and heart, science and emotion, calculation and chance.” –Marc Schuster, Small Press Reviews
  • “The author hit a home run. It’s a very good story, very well told.” –Jim Chambers, Red Adept Reviews – Selected in Top Three Romances 2011 by Red Adept Reviews
From The Author
Be truthful and follow your vision is what I learned in doing this. I went through five drafts over five years, and it still wasn’t right–close, but not it; I could feel that. I let the book sit a year and tried once again, working with a great editor who sensed my vision.
It was published in September 2011, and at the end of the year, it earned Top Ten Best Fiction 2011 from Book Chase. It won a 2011 Noble (not Nobel) Award at MyShelf.com; it was selected Top Three Best Romance 2011 at Red Adept Reviews, and it was a Book of the Year Finalist at ForeWord Reviews. It’s not your usual romance, but it’s a lively love story where physics swirls into it.
My writing fits into its own niche. I’m thankful for those who discover my work and enjoy it.
–Christopher Meeks

The Folks at Fifty-Eight

by Michael Patrick Clark
4.3 stars – 24 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:
Gerald Hammond is the exception to the rule; an honourable spy, whose lofty principles have brought him nothing but loneliness and isolation. Catherine Schmidt is the stunning young daughter of an assassinated spymaster, whose murderous quest for vengeance has left her at the mercy of the infamous Head of Soviet State Security.
On a covert operation, in Soviet-occupied Germany, Hammond has no knowledge of the unseen forces that sponsor and oppose his mission. He only knows that he must somehow save her to save himself, but, as ever-more disturbing revelations come to light, begins to wonder which poses the greater threat; the enemy he runs from, or the friend he runs to?

Set against a factual background of government conspiracy, and one of the most audacious espionage coups in history, the Folks at Fifty-Eight is a beautifully-paced tale of seduction, betrayal, blackmail, and murder that blurs the boundaries between fact and fiction.“This is the best spy novel I have read in quite some time” – Amazon Reviewer

Here’s the set-up:

Bronze Medal Award – “Dangerous Past is a mystery-thriller in the spirit of both Scott Turow and Ernest K. Gann” – Military Writers Society of America

Senior Airline Captain Frank Braden is being stalked in his home town of Austin, Texas, by unknown assailants who must arrange his death to look like a suicide or an accident before a specific deadline. The assassins almost succeed several times, in the air and on the ground. In fact, Braden’s surgeon wife, Nicole, saves his life twice from ground assailants. Both of them don’t know why people are trying to kill him.

Later, he receives a message warning him not to attend a forthcoming Senate hearing in Washington. If he agrees he will receive a million dollars and his wife’s life. When Braden turns to the FBI and local police for help, they doubt his stories since they have been led to believe he is schizophrenic and suicidal, exactly what his assailants want the authorities to think.

Dangerous Past is a story of a man who must choose between doing what ought to be done or keeping his family alive by allowing a murderous and powerful Washington VIP to escape his past.

Reviews

“The author writes with breezy energy and is consistently at his best when describing scenes of suspenseful intrigue. Frank and his wife Nicole, emerge as a heroic pair. These two steal the show. Spirited, readable debut with extra points for plot and pacing.” –KIRKUS REVIEWS

“Ebbers writes with quickness, brilliantly merging plot and dialogue. Dangerous Past is an excitingly believable journey, worth staying up all night reading.”– IndieReader

“… This was a fantastic first novel by Mr. Ebbers. The story toggles between the Vietnam War and Present day. The transition is wonderfully easy to follow as each character recollects portions of their past. The imagery was amazing, and the suspense kept me pulled into the story. Needless to say, I enjoyed this spy thriller so much; this book was very difficult to put down, worthy of a five star rating.” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars
