Love. Lust. Blackmail. Romance. Revenge. Is finding love worth getting even?

Shy, overweight Melinda Rhodes' sophomore year of high school isn't going so well. Her mother mocks her weight. She spends her weekends holed up in her room making what her friend calls "Freaky eyeball paintings." Her pants split in the middle of school, earning her the nickname, "Moolinda." She then loses first chair flute in band to Kathy Meadows, the pretty and popular mean girl who's tormented Mel for years.

Her luck changes when she catches the eye of Josh Kowalski, a rebellious trumpet prodigy and class clown. Josh has also been hurt by Kathy and asks Melinda to help take Kathy down. Mel figures that she has nothing to lose ... and Josh is adorable with gorgeous blue eyes and a winning smile. She agrees to team up with him and looks forward to finally getting back at her rival.

At first, the pair's pranks against Kathy are silly, and as they work together, Mel comes out of her shell. Wild, impulsive Josh gets her to do things she'd never done before and Mel enjoys being a bad girl. Even better, she and Josh fall in love and their teen romance blossoms.

However, as their schemes become more involved and dangerous, Mel begins to question her loyalty to Josh -- and is surprised to find how dark her dark side really is. Just how far will she be willing to go to get what she wants -- and is keepng Josh really worth the risk of going against her beliefs?

This is a coming of age tale about finding love, staying on top and staying true to yourself. Is it really possible for Melinda to have it all?

Reviews

“Ponnapalli’s crazy (impulsive, but fun and thought provoking) ideas cover some timely and popular topics; U.S debt and deficit, overweight, stock market, space exploration, alternative energies, cat litter and more. The book is easy to read.”Recommended & Reviewed in The Mindquest Review of Books, by Lightword Publishing, August 2011

“The essays were well-written and mostly thought through. Based on his personal experience, they were enlightening and at times, laughable. More importantly, they make the reader take the time to think about our future, ponder on the problems, and look for the solutions we need.”Teri Davis, BestSellersWorld.com, July, 2011

“Some of my fondest memories of university were those informal gab sessions in the common room. Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas reminds me of those times.”Just a Bunch of Crazy Ideas presents some good ideas and some not so good ideas. Take them as you will. Laugh at them or be inspired by them.”Tami Brady, TCM Reviews, July 22, 2011

Can The Perfect Red Lipstick Give You Power & Purpose? Jennie Nash’s Perfect Red – An “Absolutely Dazzling” Story Set in 1952 McCarthy-Era New York – 4.8 Stars & Just $2.99 on Kindle

Perfect Red

by Jennie Nash

4.8 stars – 14 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

In McCarthy-era New York, having the right idea for a book can lead to fame and fortune, but having the wrong idea can turn you from citizen to suspect. When the secretary of a prominent book editor becomes obsessed with the story of the world’s most glamorous red lipstick, she becomes convinced that it was the book she was born to write. She struggles to overcome her belief that surrendering to passion of any kind is dangerous and to fend off the seductive attention of the editor’s star author.Ultimately, she must fight the author for the right to tell the tale and for the right of an author to tell her own truth.

Reviews

“A whipsmart, wildly original ride that’s a heady mix of chemistry, politics, mystery, obsession and a 1950’s heroine daring to find her way. The writing sparkles on the page, and the essential question — what would you do for your passion? — becomes as provocative as it is haunting. Perfect Red is more than perfect — it’s absolutely dazzling.” — Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures Of You

“Captivating from the first sentence, impossible to put down, Perfect Red leaves you inspired, energized and ready to take on the world. Powerful storytelling at its most potent.” — Lisa Cron, author of Wired For Story: The Writer’s Guide To Using Brain Science To Hook Readers From The Very First Sentence

“With pitch perfect precision, Nash sweeps her reader into McCarthy-era Manhattan and the male dominated, literary world into which one Lucy Lawrence strives to arrive. I can see putting this gem of a book squarely in thehands of readers of historical and literary fiction as well as those looking for a page-turning escape.” — Linda McLoughlin Figel, {pages} a bookstore

From The Author

Perfect Red is a story about obsession, passion, and the perfect red lipstick. Why lipstick? A hundred reasons, really. I was inspired by a story one of my writing students told me about a real-life duchess who used blood to make her cheeks red; I was inspired by Coco Chanel, on whom my character Isadora is based; and I had done a lot of research about the color red for my last novel, The Threadbare Heart. All that was in my head when I started writing a story set in the 1950s about a secretary to a prominent book editor who becomes obsessed with with writing a book of her own. She’s attracted to and repelled by the whole idea of passion, so the perfect red lipstick was a perfect subject for her. She longs to wear it, and to write about it, and wrestles with her yearnings throughout the book.My favorite red lipstick is one by MAC. I’m not quite as bold as Lucy, so my red is more like a soft maroon. What’s your favorite red? I’m taking a poll on my website and would love to hear your vote.

Thanks for reading!
